In Memoriam
It is with great sadness that we post news of the passing of two of our long time members, Harry Konzelman (12/2001) and Ray French (1/2002).

Harry, a past president of NJTFOANW, was an administrator with the High Point Regional Schools. Many of us remember him as synonymous with the High Point and Kearny Relays. Harry was a true gentleman on and off the track and brought class and quality to everything he did.

Ray was a charter member of NJTFOANW and was retired for several years after having served as athletic director, teacher and coach in the Roxbury system for over 30 years. Along with his notable career as a track official, earlier on Ray had also been a well respected football and wrestling official. He was a decorated Air Force veteran of World War II.

Both men were ambassadors for track and field and will be missed by the Northwest Chapter for their wisdom, professionalism and dedication. Our prayers and thoughts are with their families.

It is with sadness that we share the news that fellow member Karl Weber passed away. Karl was 24 and had graduated from William Paterson and hoped to teach Special Education. He was also a softball, soccer and basketball official. He was an enthusiastic, diligent young official whose commitment to serving other people showed in many ways especially in his involvement with the Verona Rescue Squad.

Donations in Karl's memory can be made to Verona Rescue Squad at 12 Church St. Verona, NJ 07044

Bob Byrnes Honored as NJTFOA "Official of the Year

Bob Byrnes, was honored as "Official of the Year" at NJTFOA annual dinner on October 15, 2008.  Northwest Chapter's Paul Williams served as the evening's master of ceremonies and Bob was presented his award by current Northwest Chapter President, Scott Noonan.  In his presentation, Scott cited Bob's more than 30 years as an official and former coach at Dover High School.  As Scott noted, "It's hard to go to a big meet and not find Bob there working as either the clerk or as the meet referee."  At the Chapter level, Bob has served as a State Board Rep and as Northwest's Cadet Supervisor.

Congratulations, Bob, on your well deserved honor!
