It is official!!! Anthony Giraldo, 2x District Champion, 2x Region Champion, 2x State Placer and FILA Cadet Freestyle Nationals Finalist, has chosen to forego the Fargo National Championships to attend the 2012 FILA Cadet Freestyle Pan American Wrestling Championships in Maracaibo, Venezuela. Anthony will be training with the United States Cadet Freestyle Team at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado for a week before departing for Venezuela from July 13-15 with the Team.
The Pan American Games are an International level event that is represented by countries from North America, South America, Central America, and the Caribbean. It was an exciting weekend down in Atlantic City, for the NJSIAA High School State Championships. We had several wrestlers in the tournament and many placed. For some of our guys, it was the last high school match they will have ever wrestled. Scorpions Wrestling wants to congratulate Pelal Deeb for plaving 6th at the State Championships. Pelal has been a Scorpion since the age of 8 years old. Has won numerous several youth National Titles and finished his high school career, a 3x Passaic County Champion, 3x District 15 Champion, 3x Region 4 Champion and 2x HS State Placer. Thank you Pelal for all your years of wrestling and we hope you can take it to the next level.
We also want to thank John Boyle of Rutherford, who placed 4th. John has been a Scorpion for the past three years and is a Bergen County Champion, a 2x District 15 Champion, a 2x Region 4 finalist and 1x Champion, as well as a 2x HS State Placer. Thanks Jon for your hard work and dedication and we hope you can take it to the next level.
We want to also congratulate Anthony Giraldo, for placing 5th. Anthony lost a heartbreaker in OT in the semis to the eventual state champion. Anthony is a Sophmore and two time HS state semifinalist, and has two more years of wrestling. Congratulations to Marc Mastropietro who placed 8th in his first trip to Atlantic City. Marc is also a Sophmore and has two more years of HS wrestling.
Finally,
We want to congratulate Anthony Cefolo, who this weekend, has etched his name into the history books of Scorpions Wrestling. Just a short story about this wrestler. When his father Tony, was younger, he lived in NJ and wrestled against our Scorpion wrestlers, back in the 80's. He moved to Florida where he started a family and had a son. Somewhere around 2004, Tony called us and stated he remembered when he wrestled our boys back in the day and he wanted to make sure that his son went to a good wrestling club, so he brought Anthony, then about 8 or 9 years old at the time, to Scorpions Wrestling.
Now a Freshman at Hanover Park High School, Anthony has competed in his first High State Tournament and has become Scorpion Wrestlings first ever, High School State Champion in the 106 lb weight class. Avenging a County Tournament loss, Anthony beat the #1 seed in the tournament in the semifinals to reach the final match of the season. Anthony beat Carl Buttita in OT to capture his first State Title.
Congratulations to Anthony Cefolo for winning the NJSIAA High School State Championships at 106lb. We are proud of you and hope that many more will come. Thanks for being a loyal and true Scorpion.
