Every member of the NJSBUA is required to TAKE the Concussion Training each yeat. This training is required prior to the start of your 2013 Umpiring Season.
Once you have completed the training please send a copy of the training to Dave Klein and Joe Marateo.
If you have taken this training for another sport you are still required to notify us.

NFHS Guidlines on handling Contests during lightning disturbances

Guidelines for Thunder/Lightning Policy as published in the 2012/2013 Handbook for Official's has been Amended.
The 2013-2014 Officials Handbook will have these changes in it, but this correspondence will serve as an official change for this year, 2012-2013.
Page 15 Evacuation – In the second line of the paragraph, the word “should” is to be replaced with the word “must” Same is true for the third line in the same paragraph – the word “should” is to be replaced with the word “must” Page 15 Thirty-minute rule – Insert “thunder” after lightning in the first line of the paragraph so that the sentence will read, “Once lightning/thunder has been recognized, ….”
In the same line in the Thirty-minute rule, the word “recommended” is to be replaced with the word “mandatory” In the second paragraph under Thirty-minute rule, after the word contest in the second line, the word “activities” is to be inserted so that it reads, “…all contests/activities on that site must be suspended. Page 15 Education on Lightning Danger –
In the first line of the paragraph, the word “should” is to be replaced with the word “must” Page 15 Criteria for Suspension and Resumption of Activity – In the first line of the paragraph, after the word “heard” the following should be added, “by an official, a coach, the host site management personnel, or by a lightning detection system, “ A new section to be added after the second paragraph of the Criteria for Suspension section Once the contest has been suspended, the 30 minute mandatory suspension in play is in effect.
If the lightning detection system gives an “all clear signal” prior to the end of the 30 minute suspension time, the contest shall not be resumed until the 30 minute suspension time limit has elapsed, per the NJSIAA and NFHS policy.
