Saturday, August 22 Girls Stung by Bees The Nitro Lady Wildcats (0-1-0) kicked off their season with a visit to East Fairmont (1-0-0) on Saturday. Prior to the game, both teams moved their benches across the field as East Fairmont had apparently brought actual bees to the contest. The Bees took the early momentum and scored the only goal of the game with under seven minutes in the first half. Midfielder Melissa Meluzio took a shot from 18 yards away that soared into the upper corner of the net. Nitro picked up the pace in the second half outshooting East Fairmont 8 to 3. Fairmont Keeper Nikki Nuzum made two strong saves in the last four minutes to secure the victory. Emily Ross led the Wildcats with 6 of Nitro's 13 shots on goal while East Fairmont tallied eleven attempts. Nitro keeper Mallory Scarbro had seven saves and East Fairmont keeper Nikki Nuzum had eleven. The Lady Wildcats travel to Cabell-Midland on Tuesday, August 25th. Game time is 6:00pm.
