NFHCA Position Statement on Title IX
It is the position of the National Field Hockey Coaches Association that the intent and standards of Title IX, as it was originally written, be protected from any possible legislative amendment. Historically, it has been proven that without this legislation, educational institutions were not capable of providing fair and equal opportunities to the women as compared with the men on their campuses.

It is the belief of this organization that Title IX is not about reducing opportunities. We recognize that Title IX allows for one of three prongs to determine compliance. It is the choice of decision-makers as to which prong they choose to determine compliance and we urge those in a position to make decisions that they reconsider their allocation of resources before eliminating any opportunities for men.

Fear exists that the lessening of Title IX restrictions will once again result in inequitable opportunities for young girls and women in sport, and reduction of opportunities overall. It is the recommendation of this organization that before more opportunities are lost, escalating budgets of collegiate, interscholastic and amateur sports should be addressed. We implore you, along with all administrators, to examine how controlling expenditures might actually lead to increased opportunities for women without sacrificing opportunities for men.

We believe the enforcement of Title IX, in its simplest, purest form is about doing what is right and fair for all women and men. With that we seek protection of Title IX, its intent and its expectations for enforcement.
