The University of New Hampshire recently decided to partner with AstroTurf® once again to replace the existing playing surface at Memorial Field with a brand new synthetic turf field. Installation is slated for April of this year, ensuring completion in plenty of time for the Wildcats upcoming 2013 hockey season this fall.

UNH has selected the AstroTurf 12® turf system, which is universally regarded as the standard for field hockey performance and is the favorite among coaches and players for its playability, durability, and low maintenance. It’s no wonder AstroTurf is recognized as the Official Artificial Surface Provider of both USA Field Hockey and the National Field Hockey Coaches Association. In fact, a recent NFHCA survey showed that 71% of Division I schools play hockey on an AstroTurf field*.

“Our teams have loved playing on AstroTurf,” said Head Coach Robin Balducci. “When it came time to replace the field at Memorial, there was no contest. We chose to go with AstroTurf once again.”

The five time America East Coach of the Year honoree looks to continue her successful run at the helm as the all-time winningest coach in UNH history. She has guided the Wildcats to three straight regular season conference championships, three straight appearances in the conference tournament final, and three straight Coaching Staff of the Year awards.

“Having a winning tradition and a superior playing surface definitely help us recruit the best athletes,” added Balducci.

Memorial Field, which has hosted the last three America East Conference Championships, was originally renovated back in 2002 when it was converted from a grass field to synthetic turf. UNH tabbed AstroTurf to install the artificial surface then, and 11 years of quality performance later the choice was clear when it came time to resurface. They’re sticking with AstroTurf.
