NCR Tigers: 2006 Season
Tigers perform well in jamboree!![]() |
Our offense had to go up against what will be one of the best defenses in the league in the YMA Cowboys. Max Frazier took the opening hand-off and scampered 60 yards for a very quick touchdown. Our very improved offensive line did a great job of opening up holes for our backs to run through. We moved the ball up and down the field against YMA much of the scrimmage. Matthew Marquet had a touchdown called back due to a very touchy holding call late in the scrimmage. Hauken Smith broke a couple of nice runs and Levi Anderson done an awesome job of lead blocking for his partners in our back-field. We found some things we need to work on, but I came away happy with the way the offense performed. The kids had a good time and it showed out there on the field.
Tigers bury Broncos, 39-7!
![]() |
The Broncos won the toss and took the ball. That was their first mistake! Our defense stuffed them for a loss of 15 yards the first three plays, forcing Alfred's to give the ball to our offense. Our defensive line and ends were in the Broncos backfield before they could even get a hand-off to their running backs.
It didn't take our offense long to get things going! After a 5-yard run by Max Frazier, Matthew Marquet scampered 47 yards for a touchdown and a 6-0 lead. Max Frazier converted the extra point to give us a 7-0 lead early.
Once again our defense would put the clamps on the Broncos. Aaron Hubbard and Tanner Phillips spent much of the Broncos possession in their backfield sacking their quarterback. Alfred's was forced to declare a punt and would give the ball back to our offense.
On our first play, Max Frazier would break around the corner and rumble 44 yards for what appeared to be a touchdown. But hold on, the yellow flag is on the ground and the touchdown was called back due to a holding call on our offensive line. The penalty only slowed us down for a minute. On the very next play, Matthew Marquet found a hole in the defense and darted 56-yards for his second touchdown of the day. Once again Max Frazier converted the extra point and just like that we had a 14-0 lead.
Alfred's finally got their offense rollin a bit on their next drive. After a couple of plays for no gain, their running back got around the corner and scampered 45 yards for a TD to pull within 14-6. After they converted the extra point it was suddenly a 14-7 game.
Our next possession started off with a 5-yard penalty for not having one of our mouthpieces in. That didn't slow us down, as Hauken Smith faked the entire defense out as he broke several tackles on his way to a 65-yard touchdown run. We didn't convert the extra point, but still held a 20-7 lead as the 1st half was coming to an end.
Our defense would bounce back from their last time on the field as they stuffed Alfred's three straight plays and the 2nd quarter would end that way. We got the ball to begin the 3rd quarter and took a total of 10 seconds to score as Max Frazier turned on the jets and darted 55 yards for another Tiger touchdown to give us a 26-7 lead.
Once again our defense stepped up and put the clamps on the Broncos offense on their next possession. After a big time hit from Aaron Hubbard, the ball popped out and Tanner Phillips picked the ball up and scampered 35 yards for another Tiger touchdown. Near the end of Tanner's run we got called for a block in the back, erasing the touchdown. It still doesn't take away from the great play by our defense.
The Broncos gave us the ball on the fumble but we turned around and gave it right back to them on the very next play. Max Frazier attempted a pass to Matthew Marquet that the Broncos defender made a great play on. At the last minute the defender stepped in front of the pass and looked to be heading for the end zone, but Max Frazier caught him from behind saving the touchdown. The Broncos gained a few yards on their possession before declaring a punt and giving the ball back to our offense at the 45-yard line.
After a couple of plays of short gain, Matthew scored his third touchdown of the game with a 60-yard touchdown run down the sideline to give us a 25-point lead. The extra point failed and the score remained 32-7.
Alfred's would then go on their longest drive of the game. They would run most of the 4th quarter clock out as they gained a few yards here and there. They broke what looked to be a touchdown run but low and behold there was Aaron Hubbard to catch the runner from behind and save the touchdown. The Broncos drive would get them all the way to the 5-yard line before their drive would end.
With the clock winding down we took over the ball at our own 5 and Matthew went back to work. He would take the hand-off from Hauken Smith and outran the defense for a whopping 95-yard touchdown run that would cap off the game. We converted the extra point and the game would end with us notching a 39-7 win.
It was a total team effort today for these young Tigers. We made some awesome plays on both sides of the ball. We had stars all over the field today. Our defense held the Broncos to less than 50 yards total offense, while our offense scored at will. Matthew Marquet led us on offense with an incredible 4 carries for 258 total yards and 4 touchdowns. Max Frazier had 3 carriers for 65 yards and 1 touchdown and Hauken Smith had one carry for 65 yards and 1 touchdown.
Next week won't be so easy and the competition gets much tougher. We face a very tough Webb Energy Wildcat team at 12:00 next Saturday. Webb is good on both sides of the ball and this should be a good one. See you all at practice on Monday.
NCR Week 1 - Offensive Player of the Week - Matthew Marquet
Our offensive player of the week for week one of the season is Matthew Marquet. Matthew had 258 yards on 4 carries and scored 4 touchdowns on the day. He was un-stoppable out there today. He had several awesome runs on the day. On his 95-yard touchdown run, he looked like a rocket racing down the sidelines. On one of his other touchdowns, he just ran over two people on his way to the endzone. He sure made a statement out there today with the way he ran the football. Great job Matthew!!!
NCR Week 2 - Defensive Player of the Week - Tanner Phillips
Our week 1 defensive player of the week is Tanner Phillips. Tanner made 6 solo tackles and was in on several others. He also recovered a fumble and ran it in for a touchdown, but it was called back due to a block in the back call. Tanner had a great game for us today. He spent most of the day in the Broncos' backfield, either sacking the quarterback or stuffing their running back for no gain. Great game Tanner!!!!
Tigers blitz Steelers, 32-12!
We wanted to come out and make an early statement in this game by jumping on Simmons and taking the lead. But Simmons had other plans. It was them that won the coin toss and in three short plays, they went 60 yards for the early 6-0 lead. On the sideline we challenged the offense to take the game over and pick up our defense. It didn't take us long to do just that. After a 5-yard motion penalty, Matthew Marquet dashed 65 yards on our first offensive play to tie the game at 6. Our extra point failed and the game remained tied.
On Simmons' next possession our defense rose to the challenge and held Simmons on a 4th & 2 to give us the ball back on our own 47-yard line. After a short gain from Max Frazier and another motion penalty, Matthew Marquet struck again. He took the hand-off from Hauken Smith and got incredible blocking from our offensive line, as he darted 52 yards for his second touchdown of the game. We fumbled on an attempt to convert the extra point and the score remained 12-6 as the first quarter ended.
On Simmons' next possession, Justin Shelly would make a great play on a double reverse to sack the Simmons running back for a loss of 9 yards. Aaron Hubbard and a host of Tiger defenders would then sack the quarterback on the next play for another loss. The next play would see us miss a couple of tackles and Cooper Van Cooten would rumble 45 yards and would have scored if not for the incredible hustle by Aaron Hubbard. After that our defense would tighten up and hold Simmons the next four plays giving the ball back to our offense on our 42-yard line.
Max Frazier would open our next drive with a nice 6-yard run around the left side. On the next play, the Bama kid, Matthew Marquet, struck again! Mathew busted through a huge hole created by the offensive line to streak 52 yards for his third touchdown of the game. To this point in the game, Matthew had 3 carries for 169 yards and 3 TD's. Hauken Smith converted the extra point on a perfectly executed QB keeper and just like that we had extended our lead to 19-6.
Simmons got their offense going again on the next possession and after a couple of plays for short gain, their running back broke loose for a 50-yard touchdown. Their extra point failed, making the score 19-12 at the end of the first half.
Our offense kept rolling to open the 3rd quarter. Max Frazier opened the drive with a 6-yard run and Matthew added another 9 yards on the next play. Hauken then scampered 10 yards on a QB keeper to give us a 1st down on the Simmons 38-yard line. After a 6-yard gain by Matthew, Max found a hole around the left side and darted 32-yards for his first touchdown of the game. Hauken converted the extra point, giving us a comfortable 26-12 lead.
On Simmons' next possession, our defense stepped up and stuffed Simmons on four straight plays and forced them to give the ball back to our offense on their own 40-yard line. It didn't take our offense long to take advantage of the good field position. Hauken Smith got some good blocking from our line and backs to shoot 40 yards down the sideline for a quick touchdown and a 32-12 lead. We tried to convert the extra point with Levi Anderson, but we fumbled the snap and never got the play off. But the damage was done as the clock was winding down in this one.
Simmons got the ball back with just a minute left and it looked as if they may had broken another long run for a TD, but Alex Warren hustled from his safety position to save the TD. Our defense held on the next two plays and the clock expired with us notching the 32-12 victory.
Our offensive line was awesome in this game. They whipped the Simmons' defensive line on almost every play. We also got some good blocking from our backs, which allowed some big plays on offense. The defense wasn't clicking on all cyclinders in this game, but they did get a couple of stops, which allowed us to pull away for the win.
Offensively the stats went like this. Matthew had 6 carries for 184 yards and scored 3 touchdowns. Hauken had 2 carries for 50 yards and scored one touchdown. Max carried the ball 4 times for 47 yards and scored a TD.
Defensively we had several players that had a good game. Justin Shelly played his best game of the season and was in on numerous tackles. Alex Warren made several good plays on the day. Aaron Hubbard was in the backfield of Simmons more than their own backs were. Hutchon Montgomery, Ian Rogers, Reece Trotter and Zack Sudar also had a good game and was in on several good plays.
The win moves us to 2-0 on the season as we face our toughest week of the season this week. On Thursday night we face a very good Webb Energy team and on Saturday morning we face a much improved National Family Bulldog team. It should be a fun week!
NCR Week 2 - Offensive Players of the Week - Offensive Line
![]() |
Our offensive players of the week for this week is our offensive line. This group of kids done an awesome job today in the game versus Simmons. They created some huge holes for our backs to run through. Each one of them were beating their man on almost every play. They made play calling very easy with the way they were blocking today. Great job to our offensive line which consists of, Ethan Alexander, Tyce Yarbrough, Drew Yarbrough, Ethan Goux, Tray Nehf, Garrett Clark, Reed Calhoun, Riyadh Ananda and Caleb Wolfe. Great job guys! We are very proud of you all!

Coach Chris couldn't decide on which player deserved our defensive player of the week more so we gave it to two players. Both Justin Shelly and Alex Warren had good games today versus Simmons. Alex made a touchdown saving tackle late in the game and made several other tackles in the game. Justin has really became a force on our defense. He is playing his position well and made some really good plays today. Great job to both players. We are very proud of you!
Tigers remain un-defeated after 26-19 win over Webb!
Well this one didn't start out to well, but it sure ended good. After we won the toss and took the ball, I never thought we would fumble on the opening play of the game and give the ball to Webb Energy, but that's exactly what happened. Webb then put together a nice 38-yard drive to score a touchdown and just like that it was 7-0. Webb used the entire 1st quarter on the drive and things weren't looking too good.
Our offense didn't take long to strike right back at the Wildcats. After a short 4-yard gain from Matthew Marquet, Max Frazier took the hand-off from Hauken Smith and rocketed 56 yards for a touchdown. We didn't convert the extra point and suddenly it was 7-6.
The Wildcats took a play from our playbook and returned the favor on the very next play of the game. Their running back darted 60-yards down the field for a TD, which gave the Wildcats a 13-6 lead. The extra point was no good and the score remained the same.
Our offense then said, what you can do, we can do better. Max took the hand-off and scampered 60 yards for his second touchdown of the game. After Max converted the extra point the game was tied at 13. Wow, this one was getting exciting. It seemed like a track meet for a while. Three plays and three touchdowns!
The coaches challenged our defense to get a stop so we could grab the lead. Webb helped us out a little by fumbling the snap on the next play of the game and our defense was there to jump on the ball. Matthew Marquet then showed his appreciation to our defense by taking the hand-off and rumbling 38 yards for a quick TD and a 19-13 lead. Matthew then converted the extra point and we held a 20-13 lead as the half was winding down.
Webb didn't waste much time getting back on the board as they would strike right back at us on their second play from scrimmage and scramble 65 yards for yet another touchdown. Our defense made a huge stop on their extra point attempt, which allowed us to still hold a slim 20-19 lead.
With a minute left on the clock in the first half, our offense went back to work. After a short run by Matthew, Max scampered 15 yards around the corner to put the ball on the Wildcats 43-yard line as time was winding down. We called a time-out with only 19 seconds left on the clock. The next play would see us have a mix-up in the back-field and fumble the hand-off. Luckily, Matthew was there to fall on the ball and give us another chance. We called our last time-out of the half and drew up the play. Matthew took the ball and made one of the best runs of the year as he started down one sideline and crossed back clear across the field. Webb's last chance to catch him was was the safety and he made a good play by catching Matthew just yards before the end zone. So the half ended with us holding a slim 20-19 lead.
At the half we really challenged the defense to step up in the second half and play like their capable of. They did just that. Never would I have thought that we could hold them out of the end zone the entire half, but that's exactly what we did. On Webb's first play of the half, our defense looked like a totally different team out there. They were flying all over the place and sacked the Wildcat quarterback for a loss. On the next play, Will Gibson broke through the line and caused the Wildcat QB to fumble the ball. Our defense was there to recover the ball, giving it to us on the Webb Energy 45-yardline.
As usual, our offense didn't waste no time getting in the end zone. Max Frazier took the hand-off from Hauken Smith and went around the right side for a 45-yard touchdown run. We didn't convert the extra point, as Matthew Marquet fell just short of the goal line. With 3 minutes left in the 3rd quarter, we held a 26-19 lead.
Our defense really stepped up again on Webb's next possession. After a couple of plays for a loss, Webb faced a 4th and long and decided to go for it. Bad idea, as our defense swarmed to the ball and a host of Tiger defenders, led by Tyler Martin, sacked the Wildcat quarterback for yet another huge loss. Our offense would take over the ball on the Wildcat 43-yard line.
At this point, I thought we had them. Hauken Smith opened our drive with a 33-yard run. Hauken dodged several tackles and left numerous Wildcat defenders on the ground on the play. The 3rd quarter would end with Matthew making a short run to move the ball to the Wildcat 8-yard line. Max Frazier would then take the hand-off from Hauken and scamper 8 yards for what looked to be his fourth touchdown of the night. But hold on a minute. We were called for holding on the play, erasing Max's touchdown. After the penalty, we had a couple of plays were we didn't do a good job blocking and suddenly we faced our first 4th down of the season. We ran a pass play to Matthew that only gained 4 yards and the ball went back over to Webb with only a minute left on the clock.
As great as our offense had played all night, we suddenly had to rely on our defense to save the game. They were up to the challenge. On Webb's first play of the drive, Aaron Hubbard and Alex Warren would combine to sack the Wildcat quarterback for a 10-yard loss. After a short gain, the next play would see the Wildcat's running back break one, but Aaron Hubbard was there to save the touchdown. Facing a 4th and 11, the Wildcats weren't able to convert and our offense went back on the field with only seconds remaining. We actually didn't get to run another play as the clock expired before we could get an offensive play off and the game ended with us holding on for the 26-19 victory.
It was a tale of two halves in this one. The first half was a track meet, while the second half would see our defense step up and secure the win for us. Great job to the entire Tiger team tonight. It was a huge win and moved us to 3-0 on the season.
Offensively, we were lead by Max Frazier's 184 yards on 6 carries. Max had 3 touchdowns in the game. Matthew Marquet carried the ball 7 times for 80 yards and one touchdown. Hauken Smith ran the offense to perfection and had one carry for 33 yards. Hauken does so much that doesn't show up on any stat sheet. He is like another coach on the field. Great job also to our offensive line, which made some huge holes for our backs to run through. Great all around effort from the offense in this one.
Defensively, we were lead by Aaron Hubbard, Alex Warren and a ton of others. Will Gibson had his best game of the year as he was whipping his man on almost every play and causing the Webb quarterback all sorts of trouble. Zack Sudar, Hutchon Montgomery and Ian Rogers also had a good game tonight. The entire defense really stepped up in this one and deserve a lot of credit for this win. Great job guys!
We return to action on Saturday morning against a tough National Family Pharmacy Bulldog team, which will be coming off their first loss of the season. They will be ready to play, so our kids better be. This one will be fun and should be another close one. See you all there @ 10am.
Tigers let one slip away, 24-20!
To say this one was one we let slip away would be an understatement! We had the lead with 18 seconds left and the Bulldogs 60 yards away from the goal-line. We made a couple of good plays on defense and suddenly there was 1 second left and the Bulldogs were still 52 yards away. Over, right? Not quite. There's one thing you learn about watching those league. It only takes one play and 1 second on the clock. What was surprising was that our defense didn't allow a run over 25 yards all day, so honestly I thought this one was in the bag. But the Bulldogs QB, Kinner Brasher had other ideas. Kinner took the ball and as the clock expired, he broke a couple of tackles and scampered 52 yards for the game-winning TD for the Bulldogs. Great run by Kinner!
The difference in this game was time possession. PERIOD. The Bulldogs had the ball for 20 of the 24 minutes in this game. Their average drive was 60 yards on 9 plays, using more than 5 minutes each drive, while our average drive was 60 yards on 3 plays with having the ball a minute or less on each drive. They kept our offense off the field and that's why they won the game, plain and simple. Nothing to be ashamed about. Both teams played a great game and both have very good teams.
The game started with The Bulldogs winning the toss and going 60 yards in 9 plays and when the dust cleared, all but 58 seconds of the 1st quarter was gone and the score was 6-0. Our offense got the ball and after a short loss, Max Frazier darted 63 yards down the sideline for a game tying touchdown. We didn't convert the extra point and the score remained tied at 6.
The Bulldogs got the ball on their next drive and once again put together a 9 play drive, using the rest of the 1st quarter and all but 30 seconds of the 2nd quarter. The end result would be another touchdown to take a 12-6 lead going into the half. We got the ball to begin the 2nd half and it took once again two plays to go 65 yards for the game tying TD. Once again it was a run by Max Frazier, who at this point in the game had two carriers for 128 yards and two touchdowns. Matthew Marquet would convert the extra point to give us a 13-12 lead with 4:56 left in the 3rd quarter.
The next series our defense looked as if they were going to step up and stop the Bulldogs, when they faced a 4th & 12 on their own 45-yard line. We missed several tackles on the play, allowing the Bulldogs to convert and their drive continued. A few plays later the 3rd quarter clock would expire with the Bulldogs driving. Their drive continued, gaining 5 yards a play while eating up almost the entire 4th quarter. The finally scored with 1:18 left on the clock to give them a 18-13 lead.
Our offense came back on the field confident as ever. Max made the comment to me in the huddle that he could score in one play this time, but it would take a couple more than that. After a good play by their defense to drop us for a short loss, Max Frazier broke free for an 11-yard run. Next play would see Max scamper around the left side for 15 more yards to move the ball to the Bulldog 37-yard line with 30 seconds left in the game. We changed our alignment up a bit on the next play and Matthew Marquet would take it all the way to the house for the go ahead touchdown. We converted the extra point to make the score 20-18 with 18 seconds left in the game.
The Bulldogs took the ball and after a couple of short gains, they faced a 3rd down but more importantly than that, there was only 8 seconds left in the game. Their running back scampered for a few more yards as the clock expired. The referee said that the Bulldogs got their last timeout called with one second left on the clock, so they gave them one more play. That's when their good QB, Kinner Brasher darted 52 yards for the game-winning TD, giving them the 24-20 win.
Our kids were very upset after the game, but I told them they had nothing to hang their heads about. Both teams played a great game and neither team really deserved to lose this one. But losing is part of life sometime and we all have to deal with it and move on from it. I'm so proud of the kids and their effort in this game. We had some great performances out there today and they deserve to be mentioned.
Defensively, a few players really stepped up and had a good game. Zack Sudar, Alex Warren and Cameron Collins had a good game today. Tanner Phillips also played very tough out there. Will Gipson fought his guts out against a much bigger Bulldog offensive line. Great job to these kids!
Offensively, we were led by Max Frazier's 138 yards on 6 carriers and two touchdowns. Matthew Marquet had 5 carriers for 42 yards and one touchdown. Hauken Smith did not have a single carry other than one on an extra point attempt, but we could not do it without him. He is the leader of that offense and his execution on the hand-offs are so important to every play. Another hero is Levi Anderson, who done a great job blocking for Matthew and Max, making some good holes for them to run through. Our offensive line, led by their leader, Ethan Goux, did a good job of opening up holes and allowing our offense to be so effective today. We could not ask this group to do much more than they did today.
Even after the loss, we still control our own destiny. If we win out, we are still league champions, despite what happened today. We are now 3-1 in the league, while the Bulldogs moved to 2-1-1. See you all at practice on Monday.
NCR Week 4 - Offensive Player of the Week - Max Frazier
Max Frazier had an incredible 2 games for us this week. In those two games, Max had 322 yards on 12 carriers and scored 5 big touchdowns. With our opponents really starting to key on stopping the Matthew Marquet train, I talked to Max about stepping up this week and running like he's capable of. He did that and more. We have the best one, two punch in the league in our backfield, along with a very good QB in Hauken Smith and blocking back in Levi Anderson. Keep up the good work Max and crew. We are very proud of you!
NCR Week 4 - Defensive Player of the Week - Aaron Hubbard
Aaron Hubbard had a good couple of games this week for us. He had more tackles than we could count and came up with some huge plays, especially in the Webb Energy game. I have never seen a player improve so much in one year as Aaron has. I can't wait to see what he will be like next year for this team. Since he is only in 1st grade, he has another year with us and he is already talking about playing running back next year. Wow, I feel sorry for the other teams in the league already. Great job Aaron! We are very proud of you!
Tigers lose in a shoot-out, 40-33!

NCR Week 5 - Defensive Player of the Week - Alex Warren
Our defensive player of the week for week 5 of the season is Alex Warren. Alex made some big tackles for us yesterday in the game against YMA. Alex is probably the best tackler we have on defense. His form is perfect and he does an awesome job of listening to his coaches and doing exactly what they ask him to do. Alex worked out at running back in the pre-season and will definitely be there next year. His speed is something that you just can't coach and I look for him to rack up a lot of yards for us next year, but this year he is doing his part. Great job Alex, we are very proud of you!
NCR Week 5 - Offensive Player of the Week - Hauken Smith
Our offensive player of the week for week 5 of the season is Hauken Smith. Hauken in my opinion is the best QB in the league. He is a leader on the field and is like having another coach out there. He had 4 carries for 28 yards in the game this week and scored one touchdown. Hauken does so much that doesn't show up on the stat sheet. His leadership and the way he runs the offense is priceless and one of the main reasons our offense is so good this year. Great job Hauken. Keep up the great work. We are very proud of you!
Tigers defense leads way to 12-6 victory!
Wow, this one was not exactly what I expected. Our offense had not been stopped all year other than for a couple of series in the YMA game, but Saturday we struggled to get much going at all. A lot of that had to do with McCutchen's defense, but some was our fault as well. Offensively, we didn't look sharp at all and I thought it was the first time all season that we just looked like we didn't show up to play on offense. So the pressure would be on our defense to pull us through the fire in this one and that they did. The offense got just enough points to win and the defense stood tall and held on for the victory.
We won the toss and took the ball, hoping to grab the early lead. Well, we did just that, but it took us the entire 1st quarter to get a touchdown. Our offense is used to scoring on our 2nd or 3rd play from scrimmage, but not on this day. McCutchen's defense was big and overpowered our offensive line on several plays. At other times, our backs didn't do a very good job of picking up their blocks. Our first drive would be a 9 play drive that ended with Hauken Smith scampering in from 10 yards out to give us an early 6-0 lead. Our extra point failed and the score remained the same.
Our defense would then step up and put a squash to McCutchen's first drive of the game. Our defense didn't allow a single first down and gave us the ball back on the 49er's 48-yard line. Our offense went back to work, going 5 or 6 yards a play. Our longest run of this drive would be a Max Frazier 17-yard scamper around the left side of the defense. The drive ended much like our first drive, with Hauken Smith darting in from 1-yard out, to give us a 12-0 lead going into the half. Our extra point once again failed and the scored remained the same.
McCutchen knew their backs were up against a wall now. They came out in the 3rd quarter and reeled off a 60-yard, 10 play drive to pull within 12-6 by the end of the 3rd quarter and suddenly this was a ball game again! Our offense would fumble the snap on the very next play, giving the ball right back to the 49er's. The pressure would now be on our defense to step up and hold the lead.
Our defense was up to the challenge. Players like, Will Gipson, Zack Sudar, Aaron Hubbard and others were in the McCutchen back-field almost before they could get the hand-off. This would result in us stuffing them 4 straight plays, giving the ball right back to our offense with just about 2 minutes to play in the game.
After a couple of plays for no gain, we would once again fumble the snap and McCutchen recovered at our 40-yard line and now the pressure was really on. Not sure what the problem was with the snap. We have not had those problems all year long. Our defense once again stepped up to the challenge and only allowed McCutchen one first down on the drive. The 49er's got down to our 25-yard line but that would be as close as they would get to tying the game. We took over the ball and was not able to get another play off before the clock expired and a big sigh of relief was heard from our players and coaches.
This one was much tougher than we thought it would be. A lot of credit goes to McCutchen's defense, which played better against us than any other defense has all season long. Great job to all their kids and coaches.
Our offense has carried us much of the season, but the defense was the heroes in this one. Will Gipson had his best game of the season but he had a lot of help. Zack Sudar, Hutchon Montgomery, Ian Rogers, Alex Warren, Aaron Hubbard and Tanner Phillips all had some great plays in this game. The entire defense deserves a ton of credit for this win.
Offensively we were led by Hauken Smith's 51 yards on 7 carries and two touchdowns. Max Frazier reeled off 41 yards on 6 carries and Matthew Marquet had 18 yards on 4 carries. Max and Matthew are both used to going over the century mark in each game, so this was a bit of a shock to them. But the bottom line was we did just enough to get the win and the kids had a good time doing it. We will play our final game of the season next Saturday @ 9am versus a very good Police Cubs team. They are coming off their first loss of the season and will be hungry for a win. Should be lots of fun and an offensive players dream. See you there!
NCR Week 6 - Offensive Player of the Week - Levi Anderson
Our offensive player of the week for week 6 of the season is Levi Anderson. Levi is the ultimate team player and he is a big reason our offense has been so successful this season. He is our lead blocker on most running plays and doesn't get to carry the ball much. He is very unselfish and a great kid to coach. Levi done another good job today blocking and paving the way for our backs to get us just enough points to win the game. Great job Levi. We are very proud of you!
NCR Week 6 - Defensive Player of the Week - Will Gibson
Our defensive player of the week for this week is Will Gibson. Will had his best game of the year today versus McCutchen Law. Will whipped his man on most plays and was in McCutchen's back-field all day. He had several tackles behind the line of scrimmage and sacked the McCutchen quarterback several times. Our defense really stepped up today and were the heroes and Will was a huge part of that. Great game today Will. We are very proud of you.
Tigers bury Police Cubs, 32-19!

Well, we talked to the players before this game about ending our season the right way and Saturday they went out and did just that. We put together what might have been our best game of the season on both sides of the ball and the result was a 32-19 victory over a very good Police Cubs team. Going into the game, the Police Cubs were 5-1 and still had an outside shot at the league championship. We quickly put the squash to that and out-played the Cubs on both sides of the ball all day. Let's see how it all went down.
We won the toss and took the ball, hoping to grab the early lead. It took a total of 15 seconds for us to do just that! Matthew Marquet took the hand-off from Hauken Smith and got some great blocking from his offensive line. The result would be a 60-yard touchdown run on the very first play of the game. Max Frazier tried to convert the extra point but fell a bit short. After only 15 seconds of play, we held the early 6-0 lead.
We knew the Police Cubs would come right back at us. They have one of the most powerful offenses in the league and they showed it early in this game. After a couple of plays for short gain, their quarterback, Hunter Hammond scampered 52 yards for a quick touchdown. The extra point failed and the game was tied at 6.
Our offense didn't waste any time getting us the lead right back. Max Frazier took the hand-off and darted 60 yards down the sideline and just like that it was 12-6. Hauken Smith then shed a couple of tacklers to convert the extra point and extend our lead to 13-6.
The Police Cubs struck right back, just not quite as fast as our offense did. The Cubs put together a 6-play drive that ended with another Hunter Hammond TD run. This time it was a 35-yard scamper up the middle and after the extra point was converted, the game was tied at 13 with 23 seconds left in the 1st quarter.
Was 23 seconds enough time for our offense to get into the endzone once again? Are you kidding me? Matthew Marquet would answer that question in a hurry. He took the hand-off from Hauken and made a couple of incredible moves as he rocketed 60 yards down the sideline for his second TD of the game. Matthew would also convert the extra point and at the end of the 1st quarter, the score was 20-13.
We really challenged our defense to get us a stop on the Cubs next possession. They hadn't ran on us as easily as we had against their defense, so I knew the opportunity was there for us to get a stop or two in this game. On a 4th and short the Cubs converted to get the first down and it looked as if the game would be tied soon. But our defense had other ideas this time. On the next play the Cubs running back was fighting for yardage when someone knocked the ball loose and we recovered at our own 44-yard line.
Matthew Marquet took the first hand-off of the drive and was actually stopped for no gain. We then called something that we had been working on in practice for two weeks and it worked to perfection. We called two plays at once, as we called a hand-off right to Matthew, then came back with no huddle, faked the hand-off right and had Hauken Smith bootleg to the left. Hauken faked the entire defense out and scampered 56 yards for another Tiger touchdown. We missed a block on the extra point and Levi Anderson was stuffed for no gain, so the score remained 26-13 with 1:34 left in the half.
It was so important that our defense hold the Cubs out of the endzone the final minute of the first half, because the Cubs would also get the ball back to start the 3rd quarter. Our defense was up to the challenge as they did bend, but did not break. The Cubs broke a couple of 10 yard runs but would be stopped at our 35-yard line as the 2nd quarter came to an end with us leading 26-13.
The Police Cubs opened the 3rd quarter with a long 5 minute drive that would once again see our defense hold them on a big 4th down play and give the ball back to our offense. There were several big plays in the drive. Cameron Collins made a couple of great open field tackles and Hutchon Montgomery stepped up with a couple of big plays. Tanner Phillips fought off an early game injury and made a couple of sacks in the Cub back-field also. Alex Warren provided the hit of the year on the drive. The Police Cubs quarterback broke free down the sideline but Alex came across the field and laid a hit on him that was heard throughout the stadium. I was worried their quarterback was hurt on the play, but he popped right back up. It was an incredible hit by Alex!
Our offense would take over the ball at our own 38-yard line and would once again make short work of the Cubs' defense. After a run for no gain by Max Frazier, Matthew Marquet took the hand-off from Max on a double reverse and darted 65-yards un-touched down the sideline for his third touchdown of the game. Our extra point failed as Levi Anderson fell just short of the goal line and at the end of the 3rd quarter, the score was 32-13 in favor of the Tigers.
The Police Cubs would not lay down and quit. Their offense put together an 8-play drive, capped off by a great 38-yard run by Hunter Hammond for a TD. They tried to pass on the extra point, but Justin Shelly was there to pick off the pass and the score remained 32-19 with 1:27 left in the game.
We have been practicing a trick play for a couple of weeks in practice and the kids were driving me crazy to run it if we got the ball back. Honestly I was afraid we would score on the play and I didn't want it to look like we were trying to run up the score and be bad sports. After a couple of runs for no gain by Max Frazier we called the trick play in the huddle. Hauken and the rest of our players ran the play to perfection, but the Cubs defense did a good job stopping Matthew for a short gain and the clock expired with us notching the 32-19 win. The win gives us a 3rd place finish in the League at 5-2.
We were led today on defense by Cameron Collins, who had his best game of the season. Cameron made numerous open-field tackles and really gave the Cubs offense trouble today. Alex Warren also made a couple of awesome plays on the day, including the incredible hit he put on the Cubs quarterback on one play. Hutchon Montgomery, Tanner Phillips, Aaron Hubbard also had several tackles in the game. It was really a complete team effort by the defense. Everyone that was in the game did something good out there today.
Offensively, we were led by Matthew Marquet's 182 yards on 7 carries and 3 touchdowns. Matthew was un-stoppable out there today. With them stacking their defense to the side we usually run Max, we knew Matthew had to have a good game and he did just that. Max Frazier had a good game with 60 yards on 3 carries and scored 1 touchdown. Hauken Smith ran the offense to perfection and scored a touchdown on the only time he carried the ball. Hauken ended up with 56 yards on one carry. Levi Anderson did his usual awesome job blocking for our backs today and our offensive line was blowing the Police Cubs defensive line off the ball all day. They made it very easy to call plays the way they blocked today. Great job to the entire offensive unit. Ethan Goux did a great job today handling the center duties. The football was pretty wet and Ethan did not botch a single snap all day. Great job Ethan and the rest of your offensive buddies!
I could not be prouder of our players for the way they played this season. We improved in each and every game and we had a ton of fun out there this year. As coaches, we saw each and every player improve throughout the season and that's what it's all about. I believe it was a positive and fun experience for every one of our players and as a coach, that's my goal every year. Despite some coaches thinking this is the NFL, it's not. Our job is to teach these kids and let them have fun in the process. I know we did that and more. Great season Tigers! We are very proud of you!
