Expected growth in North Carolina District 6 for 2009

On October 6, 2008 we were visited by Mr. Sam Ranch the League Development Manager for Little League Baseball. That evening we visited with the Supper Optimist Club who had inquired about Little League. These people are currently involved with the Cal Ripken Baseball. They had a problem with our Little League Field Dimensions of 46 x 60. Ripken plays on 50 x 70 diamonds. Sam explained to them than Little League is for teaching the basic fundmentals of baseball and for the players to have fun. He also explained the fact that we are here for all of the players. We left there with the feeling that they would charter within the next two years.

On Tuesday we headed for Chapel Hill were Sam had an appointment with Michael Troutman and his bosses. We had a meeting with Michael earlier this year. Bill Lindsey, Gordon Ferrell, Chris Sousa and myself met with Michael about chartering. he was highly interested and he showed the same interest with his discussion with Sam. He asured us that they will be chartering this year.

While in Chapel Hill, Sam met with George Groce from District 2 and Dan the Sports director of Almance County Parks and Recreation Department. After that meeting, we went to Bunn to meet with Bunn Youth Recreation League. These people were interested in softball. They wanted to know how many leagues in their are offered a softball program that they could interleague with. We can get these people in if we develop more softball programs around them. You do not need a field to charter a one team league that you could interleague with leagues in your area.

Wednesday morning we went to Goldsboro were we met with the Mayor and six individuals. We explained our program to them and they were highly interested in our program. They invited me back for a meeting on Tuesday October 14 at 6:00 PM. We will be mapping out their boundaries and working on their constitution. If everything goes well they will be chartered for next season.

After leaving Goldsboro we came to Fayetteville were we met with Michael Seals and one of his employees at the City-County parks and recreation Department. We explained him our program. He informed us that they would be chartering effective this with seven or eight leagues. I will be meeting with them and assisting them with their boundary maps and Constitution.

After our meeting with Fayetteville, we went to Fuquay-Varine and met with their Recreation Departments Athletic committee. They gave us the impression that they would be chartering. I will know more for sure when they contact Sam or me requesting more information.

This concluded our whirlwind tour of a large portion of our district. There will be more news coming in the near future.
