Mustangs Honored by Continental League

Seven Mustang players received honors from the coaches of the Continental League as the season wrapped up during Regionals Week.  The Continental League honors their top 20 players with an All-League First Team selection, and the next 20 players receive All-League Second Team honors.  Players receiving votes on one of those two teams, but failing to get enough votes are selected as Honorable Mention.  The coaches in the Continental League obviously agreed with the coaching style of Mustang Head Coach Toby Tabola and how well his players performed this year, as nearly all the Mustang regular starters received some type of All-League honor.

All-League First Team:  Kelly Flynn (Sr);  Kyla Wilkinson (Sr);  Christine Martini (So)

All-League Second Team:  Koo Maes (So);  Shanna Christian (So);  Jo McCarthy (So)

Honorable Mention:  Rachel Hogan (Jr)

Great Job, Mustangs - You deserve all the honors you received !!!

Mustangs Head West for Regionals !!!

The Mustangs will hit the road and head west to the western edge of the state to tackle their Regional tournamnet on Saturday.  Canyon View Fields in Grand Junction will host the #2 regional, with Fruita Monument, Grand Junction, Ponderosa, and Green Mountain as the participants.  The Mustangs will take on Fruita Monument at 10am in the first round, while Grand Jumction and Green Mountain battle it out on an adjacent field.  Both winners of those games will play each other, as will both losers play each other.  Teams with 2 wins or 2 losses are done, as 2 wins advances a team to the state tourney, while two losses eliminates a team from the regional.  Both 1-1 teams will play one more game to determine the second team to advance to state.  The game times are set for 10am, 12:30pm, and 3pm.  All games will take place at Canyon View Fields a complex just southeast of Hwy 70 and 24 Road in Grand Junction.  The Mustangs will be travelling in style to Grand Junction as they will enjoy their ride through the mountains while travelling on the "Macedog Express", Ponderosa's charter bus used for athletic events.  Once in Grand Junction, the Mustangs will call the Doubletree Hotel "home" for one night, which is located at 743 Horizon Drive in Grand Junction (1-970-241-8888).  Congratulations Mustangs on advancing to regionals - an honor in itself - hope you acheive your goals and advance to state next weekend.  Good Luck, Mustangs !!!!

Mustangs Lose League Finale, 4-2 to Highlands Ranch !!

HR Game 2009
With both teams competing for third place in the Continental League, it was Highlands Ranch who rose to the occasion and beat the Mustangs, 4-2 on Friday evening.  Botyh teams entered the contest with just two league losses, and the winner would claim third place in League, giving them a higher seeding for Regionals.  Highlands Ranch struck early, scoring one run in the bottom of the first on a hit, a sacrifice bunt, and a sacrifice fly.  The Mustnags answered in the top of the second to tie the score at 1-1, with a double and a single.  The Mustangs then took a 2-1 lead in the third inning on a single and a double, but their lead was short lived.  In the bottom of the third inning the Falcons scored three unearned runs to take a 4-2 lead.  That was the end of the scoring for both teams, however, in the top of the seventh inning, Ponderosa loaded the bases with one out, threatening to steal the game away in the last inning, but the rally fizzled and all three were stranded.  The loss left the Mustangs with a 7-3 League record and a 15-4 season record - a decent record for year.  Regional seeding takes place this weekend - let's hope the Mustangs get a good draw for a favorable Regional contest.

Mustangs Lose Heartbreaker, 1-0 !!!

Senior Day 2009
It was a classic duel between two teams with good pitching and good defense - and the 1-0 score shows how close the two teams are.  Mountain Vista eeked out 1 run in the fourth inning to score the game's only run,  and edged the Mustangs in a very close battle.  With both pitchers keeping hitters off balance, and relying on their strong defenses, the game was quick and cleanly played.  The Mustangs defense was flawless, while Mountain Vista had just one throwing error.  The win moved Mountain Vista one game ahead of the Mustangs and broke the tie for second place in the Continental League.  Prior to the game,  Ponderosa honored their three senior leaders on the squad for Senior Day - they will be missed next year.  Congratulations to the Seniors and the rest of the Mustangs, you proved that you can play with any team out there.

Hot Bats on a Cold Night - Mustangs Win 10-5 !!!

Heritage 2009
Wet, rainy and cold weather conditions didn't deter the Mustangs from having a hot night at the plate, as they defeated Heritage 10-5 on Monday night at Sedillo Field.  Every Mustang in the lineup got at least one hit, enroute to a balanced 12 hit attack (five for extra bases) and an impressive .413 batting average for the evening.  It started out a bit scary for Mustangs as Heritage scored two runs in the top of the first on 3 hits and a walk.  Ponderosa took the lead right back in the bottom of the first inning two singles, two doubles, a walk, and a homer to go up 6-2.  In the sceond inning, the Mustnags added a run on a walk and an RBI-double to increase the lead to 7-2.   Heritage added three runs in the fifth inning on a hit by pitch, and three singles, to close the gap to 7-5.   But the Mustangs came right back with two runs in the bottom of the fifth on three singles and a sacrifice bunt to increase the lead to 9-5.  In the sixth, the Mustangs added their final run on a leadoff double and an RBI-sacrifice fly to close the scoring at 10-5.  The win moves the Mustangs league record to 7-1 with only two games to play.  For the season, the Mustnags improve to 15-2 overall.  Great win, Mustangs - good job focusing on the game and not the conditions !!

Saturday, October 3
Mustangs Rout DC, 10-0 !!!

Christine vs DC
The Mustangs played their sharpest game of the season in a decisive 10-0 victory over Douglas County on Friday afternoon.  Ponderosa jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on a double, a stolen base and an error.  The Mustangs added to their lead in the second inning, scoring two runs on 3 singles to go up 3-0.  In the fourth inning, the Mustangs really broke the game open with four more runs on four singles and a double, increasing their score to 7-0.  Ponderosa added a solo run in the 6th inning and two more in the seventh, to lose the scoring at 10-0.  Douglas County struggled against Mustang pitching and sound defense, as they didn't get a hit until the fifth inning, and only had two for the whole game.  The win moves the Mustangs record to 6-1 for League, and 14-2 overall, as they enter the last week of the League season.  Great job, Mustangs !!!!

Bats Boom in Mustang Win Over Thunder Ridge, 11-2 !!

Kelly at TR
Mustang bats were booming at Thunder Ridge, as the Mustangs pounded out 14 hits, scoring 11 runs to defeat the Grizzlies 11-2 on Wednesday evening.  The game started out a little shaky in the first inning, as the Mustangs got thrown out at the plate on a delayed steal, and the Grizzlies jumped to a 1-0 lead on a leadoff double, a single, and an error.  The Mustangs got back on track in the second inning, taking a 4-1 lead on a homer, two singles, a double, and an error.  In the third inning, Ponderosa extended their lead to 6-1, on a triple, a walk, and two singles.  Both teams added runs in the fourth inning to make the score 7-2.  In the fifth inning, Ponderosa scored three more runs on a homer, a double, and two singles to take a commanding 10-2 lead.  The Mustangs added a solo run in the sixth inning on a hit and two Grizzly errors to close the scoring at 11-2.  Mustang pitching was very tough, limiting Thunder Ridge to just 5 hits, while striking out 14 batters.  The convincing victory moves the Mustangs record to 5-1 in League play and 13-2 overall.  Nice job, Mustangs, let's keep the bats hot for the next few weeks !!

Mustangs Host 6th Annual Dodgeball Tournament !!!

Dodgeball Champs 2009
Homecoming Week means the Mustang Fastpitch Team will be hosting the annual Dodgeball Tournament at PHS, and for the 6th consecutive year, it was a great success.  Twenty-six teams battled in the gym on Tuesday evening for the prized title of "2009 PHS Dodgeball Champs".  The orange and black clad "S.I.E>" team took the first place honors, with "Alpha QUP" in second and "Fussers" in third place.  Thanks to all the teams that particpated in the tourney, and a big thanks to the parents that helped run the tourney.  Great job,  Mustangs !!!!

Wednesday, September 30
Mustangs "Win Ugly" Over Regis, 2-0 !!

Regis 2009
It certainly wasn't pretty, but a 2-0 win is still a win, and the Mustangs will take it.  In a home game against Regis, both team's offenses struggled for much of the game before Ponderosa scored the game's only two runs.  Both pitchers and defense held tight as the game cruised through 3 and 1/2 half innings before the first base hit came.  In the bottom of the 4th inning, the Mustangs put together a pair of singles, but left both runners stranded.  It wasn't until the bottom of the sixth inning that the scoreboard actually got used.  The Mustangs started the inning with two singles, but it was a 2-out triple that was the big hit, knocking in both runs for 2-0 Mustang lead.  The Mustangs carried a no-hit bid into the top of the seventh, but two hits to right field spoiled the no-hitter.  Both Regis runners were stranded, and the 2-0 Mustang victory help up.  Tough night for the hitters, but pitching and defense kept the Mustangs in the game until enough offense showed up to seal the deal.  The win moves the Mustangs to 4-1 in League play, and 12-2 overall.

Mustangs Roll at Gateway, 26-2 !!!

Haley at Gateway 2009
In a lopsided contest, the Mustangs pounded the Gateway Olympians by a final score of 26-2.  There were the usual suspects knocking out hits and scoring plenty of runs for the Mustangs, but there were also some new faces that made their varsity debut on Saturday.  Several JV players were brought up to varsity for the Gateway game, and they fit in quite well, even turning a game ending 6-4-3 double play to end the game.  This game got out of hand early as the Mustangs opened the top half of the first inning with 15 runs 8 hits , 7 walks, and 2 Gateway errors.  In the second inning, the new faces on varsity jumped into the game, and kept things rolling with 5 more runs 3 hits and 4 wals, to up the score to 20-0.  Gateway managed 2 runs in the bottom of the second on 2 hits and a Mustang error, to avoid the shutout.  Ponderosa added another 6 runs in the top of third on 3 hits, 5 walks, and a Gateway error to close their scoring fest at 26 runs.  Gateway's third inning featured a base hit after one out, but the sweet double play by the Mustangs ended the game at 26-2 via the League mandated mercy rule.  Nice job, Mustangs - way to bring the new players on board in a convincing victory.  Congrats to the JV players who came up and did an outstanding job in their first varsity action!!!

Mustangs Stumble in Loss vs Chaparral, 7-5 !!!

Chap Game Pic 2009
Weather got in the way of the originally scheduled game between the Mustangs and Wolverines on Wednesday evening, so the game was moved to Thursday evening at Ponderosa.  However, it was the Mustangs who got in their own way against Chaparral, and lost to the cross town rival, 7-5.  It started out really well for Ponderosa, as they jumped to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning on a leadoff homer, a walk, a single, and a double to start the scoring.  Chaparral answered back in the second inning with a run on a walk, a single, and a double to close the deficit to 3-1.  In the third inning, the Mustangs relenquished the lead back to Chaparral, handing the Wolverines three unearned runs on a walk, a single, and three Mustang errors, giving Chapparal a 4-3 lead.  The top of the fourth inning found the Wolverines adding to their lead on two walks, and error, and two hits to increase Chap's lead to 7-3.  The Mustangs struck back for two runs in the bottom of the fourth on a homer, a double, and a single to close the gap to 7-5.  Both teams threatened in the final three innings, but neither scored, and the 7-5 Chaparral victory stood up.  The game was very exciting as it was a close battle the whole way through.  Both teams knocked out 11 hits, but the extra Chaparral runners provided by Mustang walks and errors was the difference in the score.  The loss drops the Mustangs record to 2-1 in league and 10-2 overall.  The Mustangs will regroup this weekend against Gateway in a makep game from Monday's rainout.  Keep working hard, Mustangs - there's still alot of season to go yet.

Mustangs Score Early During Win Over Rangeview, 5-0 !!!

Out vs Rangeview
The Mustangs scored in each of the first three innings to post an early lead which stood up through the rest of game for a solid 5-0 win over Rangeview.  Travelling to Aurora to take on the Raiders, the Mustangs were ready to play and it showed early in the game.  In the top of the first, the Mustangs scored three runs on a solo homer, two singles, and a triple, to take a 3-0 lead.  In the second inning, the Mustangs added another run on pair of singles and a stolen base to make the score 4-0.  Ponderosa dded their final run in the third inning on a pair of Raider errors, and a single to close the scoring at 5-0.  Meanwhile, Mustang pitching and defense totally shut down the Raiders on just two hits over seven innings, and no Rangeview runner got past second base all game.   Great job, Mustangs  a solid victory on the road.  The win moves the Mustangs record to 2-0 in Continental League play, and 10-1 for the season.

Better Late Than Never - Mustangs Win League Opener, 5-2 !!!

Breaking Out vs Rock Canyon
It took a little longer than everyone wanted, but the Mustangs finally took the lead against Rock Canyon late in the game and finished with a 5-2 victory in the Continental League Opener.  Rock Canyon pitching was tough and kept the Mustang offense bottled up through five innings, limiting Ponerosa to just one infield hit.  Mustang pitching was equally tough on the Jaguars, but in the third inning, Rock Canyon scored two unearned runs on a hit, a walk, and a two base error to put the Jaguars on top 2-0.  The score stayed that way until the sixth inning as pitching and defense dominated the middle innings.  In the sixth, the Mustangs ignited a 5-run rally featuring two singles, a walk, a triple, and a two-run homer to take a commanding 5-2 lead into the seventh inning.  The Jaguars failed to score in the seventh and just like that, the Mustangs grabbed the victory away from the Jaguars.  The Mustangs season record improved to 9-1, while their league record starts out at 1-0.  Great comeback, Mustangs - Way to rise up and take the game when you needed to.

Mustangs "Businesslike" in 4-0 Win Over Lewis-Palmer !!!

Shanna vs Lewis Palmer 2009
The Mustangs appeared to be very businesslike in their 4-0 victory over the Lewis-Palmer Rangers - efficient, get the job done, win the ball game.  The Mustang pitching and defense were tough on the Rangers, allowing just 5 baserunners through the seven inning game.  The exclamation point came in the top of the seventh when the Rangers were snuffed out of the game on a Mustang pitcher-first-home double play that ended any threat and the game.  Offensively, the Mustangs were efficient, scoring 4 runs on six hits, as they also took advantage of three Lewis-Palmer errors.  The Mustangs scored in the second inning on a hit, a walk, and a sacrifice to take a 1-0 lead.  In the bottom of the fourth, the Mustangs added three more runs on a single, a sacrifice, an error, and a two-run triple to increase the score to 4-0, which was the final.  The win moves the Mustangs record to 8-1 on the season, and excellent start as they prepare for Continental League play to begin next week.  Great job again, Mustangs !!!!

Mustangs Survive Marathon, Beat Wildcats 1-0 !!!

Rachel A West
The whole lengthy affair lasted 3 hours and 10 minutes.  It included a 30 minute lightning delay, and then 11.5 innings of scoreless ball, and an exciting finish in the Mustangs 1-0 victory over Arvada West on Thursday evening.  The Mustangs home opener was indeed a long one - so long that the JV game wasn't able to be played as darkness crept in just after the Varsity game finished.  The start to the game was maybe a forecast of what was to come.  After the Cats top half of the first inning was completed, lightning and rain delayed the game for 30 minutes, as both teams stayed out of the weather.  When they hit the field to pick up the game again, neither team realized what was to transpire.  Both pitchers and defenses were strong, and neither team could get the timely hit to push across a run for 11 consecutive innings.  There were chances, as the Cats had runners at third base in the first, fourth, fifth, ninth, and eleventh innings, while Ponderosa stranded runners at third base in the fourth and ninth innings.  But it was the 12th inning where this game was won.  After shutting down the Cats 1-2-3 in the top of the 12th, the Mustangs bunched together a base hit, and passed ball, and an RBI-double to push across the games only run.  After the Mustangs scored, players celebrated the victory on the field, mobbing the players involved in the game ending run.  The win moves the Mustangs record to 7-1 on the season, a great start for Ponderosa.  Way to hang in there and battle for the win, Mustangs !!!

Mustangs Finish As Silver Bracket Champions at Don McCall Tourney !!

Don McCall 2009
The Mustangs spent two days of the Labor Day Weekend in Castle Rock playing ball in the Don McCall Tournament, which featured 18 participating high school teams.  After splitting their two games on Friday, the Mustangs swept all three games on Saturday, enroute to the Championship of the Silver Bracket of the Tournament.  On Friday morning, the Mustangs no-hit Coronado in a 13-0 lopsided victory.  The Dakota Ridge game later in the day was much different, as that game was a see-saw battle down to the last inning.  Dakota Ridge jumped out to 3-0 lead in the top half of the first inning, but Ponderosa answered back and took the lead back at 4-3 in the bottom of the first.  Dakota Ridge added solo runs in the second and third innings to take the lead back, 5-4.  Both teams scored in the fourth inning,  with Dakota Ridge extending their lead to 7-5.  Both teams threatened in the fifth and sixth innings but couldn't score, and the timed game ended there with the Mustangs on the short end of a 7-5 loss.  Saturday's game against Lewis Palmer was similar in that both teams held leads throughout the game, but it was an exciting seventh inning comeback win by the Mustangs that stood out.  Down 6-5 entering the bottom of the seventh, the Mustangs attacked right away with two triples, to tie the score at 6-6 with a runner at third base.  A suicide squeeze bunt easily scored the run and gave the Mustangs a 7-6 win over the Rangers.  The Mustangs then crushed the La Junta Tigers with an 11-0 win to put them into the Silver Bracket Championship against Chatfield.  The Mustangs jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first inning, sparked by a big 3-run homer.  Chatfield scored an unearned run in the second to close the gap to 4-1, but that would end all the scoring for the game, as both pitchers settled in and shoutout both offenses the rest of the way, giving the Mustangs a 4-1 win and the Silver Bracket Championship.   Great job, Mustangs.  You can be proud of a solid 4-1 record over the weekend.  The tournament games leave the Mustangs with a 6-1 record on the season as they head into their last week of pre-league games.

Mustangs Dominate Rebels in 7-0 Shutout Victory !!!

Columbine 2009
"If the opposition doesn't score, you usually have a great chance of winning" - the Mustangs worked this old adage very well on Wednesday night at Columbine.  Limiting the Rebels to no runs on just four hits, the Mustangs pitching and defense shut down Columbine in the victory.  On offense, the Mustangs pounded out 12 hits, scoring 7 runs in the win.  The Mustangs jumped out early with a leadoff hit, a sacrifice bunt, and an RBI-double to post a 1-0 lead in the first.  In the third inning the Mustangs loaded the bases on a double and 2 walks, but failed to score, stranding all three runners.  The fourth inning saw the Mustangs up their lead to 2-0 on three base hits.  The Mustangs broke the game open in the fifth inning, scoring 5 more runs on 4 hits, 2 walks, and a Rebel error to take a commanding 7-0 lead.  The Mustangs threatened again in the sixth on two base hits, but left those runners on base.  The victory moved the Mustangs record to 2-0 on the season, with both wins coming on the road.  After just one practice day on Thursday, the Mustangs travel to Castle Rock for the two-day Don McCall Tournament, where they'll play 5 games over the weekend.  Great job, Mustangs - keep up the good work !!!

Mustangs Laugh It Up During Scavenger Hunt in Parker !!

Scavenger Hunt Gang
Coach Becky challenged the Varsity and JV Mustangs to a Scavenger Hunt in Parker, and the Mustangs excelled at the challenge - and laughed the whole way through it.  Kicking off the evening with a pizza buffet at Pizza Hut, the Mustangs were divided into 6 different teams and assigned 20 tasks to complete for the rest of the evening.  Creatively completing the tasks, with a photo or video as proof, was the goal for each team.  After roughly 2 hours of 26 Mustang players scouring through Parker, the teams completed their tasks.  They gathered at the Berends' house for ice cream sundaes, and then to share their photos and videos of how their team creatively accomplished each task.  Roars of laughter seemed to accompany each photo/video as they came up, as this group of Mustangs were very creative, and never too shy, to get the job done.  Since all the groups did such a great job of providing entertainment for each other, all the teams were declared winners.  Funny stuff - these girls not only can play ball, but they know how to have fun as well.

Mustangs Rally for Win in Season Opener !!

Koo Scores vs Sabercats
The 2009 Mustangs rode the roller coaster Thursday night in a see-saw battle against Castle View, but came out on top with 6-5 season opening victory.  Travelling to Castle Rock to take on the Sabercats, the Mustangs arrived ready to play, as they scored 2 runs in the top of the first inning on 3 hits.  Mustang pitching held the Sabercats in check until the third inning when Castle View bunched together 3 hits and two walks to take a 4-2 lead.  Showing no fear, the Mustangs stole the lead back in the top of the fourth inning scoring 3 runs on 4 hits, jumping back in front 5-4.  In the bottom of the sixth inning, Castle View tied the game on a 2-out homer, setting the stage for the dramatic seventh inning.  Ponderosa opened the top of the seventh with two hits, and then scored a run on an error to take a slim 6-5 lead.  Castle View got a runner to third base in the bottom of the seventh, but left her stranded as the game ended on a ground out.  The game featured several pressure packed siutations, and the Mustangs handled them all with poise and confidence.  Offensively, the Mustangs pounded out 12 hits, 5 for extra base hits, with only 3 strikeouts.  Mustang pitching was very strong, limiting the Sabercats to 7 hits, while striking out 12 batters.  All in all, a very good performance by the Mustangs, as they start the season wth a 1-0 record.  Great job, Mustangs !!!

Mustangs Heat Up in Scrimmage !!

Cherry Creek Scrimmage 2009
Contrary to the Cubs’ Ernie Banks quote, “It’s a great day for a ball game, let’s play two !!”, it may have a bit too hot for a midday doubleheader scrimmage at Sedillo Field on Saturday.  The weatherman said it was the hottest day of the summer for the Denver Metro area – a scorching 96 degrees !!  Regardless of the heat, the Cherry Creek Fastpitch team arrived at Ponderosa and the two teams worked in a full 4-hour scrimmage session where both teams got to see what they had against other competition.  The first scrimmage session highlighted good pitching, good defense, and a few timely hits, as both teams scored 3 runs during the session.  Cherry Creek jumped out with a quick 2 runs on an error and a two-run homer, but then were shut down until the last inning when they scored a run during situational scenarios, where runners were placed on bases to start the inning to pressure the defense.  The Mustangs, decked out in their "tie-dye shirts",  took a few more innings to get rolling, but scored three runs in the fifth inning when they bunched up several hits in a row, including back to back doubles.  But it was pitching and defense that dominated the first scrimmage as the Mustangs knocked out just 6 hits, while Cherry Creek was held to a mere 2 hits.  The second scrimmage session was a completely different story, as it was all Mustangs.  With Cherry Creek’s second and third pitchers clearly not as strong as their ace, the Mustangs scored in every inning of the shortened 4-inning scrimmage, compiling 14 runs on 10 hits, 6 walks, and 5 Cherry Creek errors.  Meanwhile, the Mustangs continued their good pitching holding Cherry Creek to just 2 hits over the four innings, but allowed two unearned runs.  With the temperature peaking, and the coaches realizing the scrimmage was lopsided at this point, both sides agreed to call it a day.  All in all, the Mustangs good in all aspects of the game, and the fans seemed to enjoy getting their “first look” at the 2009 Mustang team.  The coaching staff was pleased with the work the Mustangs got in during the scrimmage and will take a few things to work on into next week’s practices to get ready for the season opener at Castle View.  Good job, Mustangs – nice start to promising season!!

Sedillo Field Looking Good !!!

Workday Crew 2009
Field Workday 2009 is already in the books, and the excellent work crew that labored on Saturday morning did a great job.   With over 30 people pitching in to get all the jobs done, it took just a little over two hours to get Sedillo Field in great shape for the season.  One of the big jobs was getting the batting cages back to proper working order after the winter storms and summer winds/rain took their toll on the nets and carpets.  A dedicated team did a great job of getting the cages back to their original condition and ready for the fall season.  In addition to the cages, a new home plate was installed (signed by the workcrew before it was buried), the pitching rubber was adjusted and flipped over, outdoor carpet was installed between the cages and the equipment shed, scoreboard lights were replaced, the infield low spots were filled in, the warning track was levelled off, the equipment shed,  scorebooth shed, and the snack shack were all cleaned out, the bullpens were leveled off and weeded, the dugouts were cleaned, the weeds in the fan area were scraped and cleared away, and of course, weeds were pulled from all around the field - quite an extensive list of accomplishments !!!  After all the work was done, hot dogs and lemonade were served to feed the hungry work crew.  A big thanks to all the players, parents, and siblings for pitching in to get our home field ready for the season !!!

Mustangs Hold 2-Day Youth Camp !!!

Youth Camp 2009
The 2009 Ponderosa season opened with the Mustang players and coaches presenting a 2-day youth camp at Sedillo Field on July 7-8, 2009.  Thirty camp participants, aged 6-11 attended the camp and learned plenty of Fastpitch skills during the camp.  Decked out in their "cool" individualized tie-dye shirts, the campers got excellent large group instruction as well as small group, hands on training provided by the Mustang player/coaches.  With 14 Mustang players working closely with each of the age groups, the campers got to really work on their individual skills with plenty of attention and reinforcement from the player/coaches.  Many thanks to the camp participants who worked so hard through the 6-hour camp, as well as their parents who got them enrolled and brought them to the camp each day.  Thanks also goes to the Mustang player/coaches who showed great enthusiasm and instructional skills while working with the campers.  We look forward to holding another camp like this one next year.

New Coaches Ready to Lead JV Squad

The Mustang JV squad will be led by new coaches for the 2009 season.  Although both coaches are new to the 2009 program, they have plenty of history with the Mustang Fastpitch teams.  Becky Berends will be the head JV Coach for 2009, where she will return to the Mustangs after graduating from Ponderosa in 2006.  Becky played three years of Mustang Fastpitch at Ponderosa before playing the last three seasons at Adams State College, in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.  Becky has played Fastpitch for the past 17 years and brings a ton of experience and knowledge of the game to Ponderosa.  Kris Schenbeck will also re-join the Mustangs after a one year hiatus, and brings her coaching expertise back to the Mustang program.  Kris coached the Mustang JV team in 2007 and led the team to an undefeated conference season.  Becky and Kris will be a great coaching tandem for the Mustangs and bring a great deal of pride and enthusiasm to the team.  Welcome to the new Mustang coaches - we look forward to watching you work your magic with the Mustangs again.
