VARSITY
Manager: Rick Rutledge
Coaches: John Fox, Terry Blaylock

Coach Rick Rutledge was born in Houston, Texas on October 24, 1963, and attended Northbrook High School in Houston where he received five varsity letters -- one in football, one in cross-country, and three in track.  Coach Rut still insists that the track coach conspired to keep him off the baseball team, but he still managed to play baseball at the high school level, up to and including Colt League.

Coach Rut is an honors graduate from the University of Texas, as well as a graduate of U.T. Law School. From 1989 to 1993, Coach Rut served in the U.S. Marine Corps, and this remains the professional achievement of which he is most proud.  He became a Christian through the ministry of Campus Crusade for Christ.  His faith informs all that he does, including his work with the Mustangs today.

Before becoming the Varsity Manager in 2007, Coach Rut was an assistant coach with the Mustangs JH team in 2004 and the JH Head Coach from 2005-2006.  During his two years as Head Coach, the Mustangs JH team compiled a record of 31-12-1.

During his tenure Varsity Manager, the Mustangs have shown both steady and dramatic improvement. Dubbed the "most improved team" at the HWSA West Regional in 2008, the 2009 Mustangs won the Lutheran South Baseball Bash and defeated two UIL 5A programs in the spring -- a first for any Texas homeschool team. Last season, the Mustangs also finished with their highest HWSA regional finish ever -- finishing ahead of the Northside Falcons at regional competition for the third consecutive year.

Coach Rut teaches the mental game of baseball as well as any of his peers.  He insists that his teams play the game hard and right in all phases.  However, he prides himself in, first and foremost, caring about his players and seeking their best.  He is a member of both the Houston Area Baseball Coaches Association and the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association, as well as Ron Wolforth's Pitching Coach Inner Circle.

For a view of Coach Rut through the eyes of a friendly rival, contact either Coach Brent Landrum at The John Cooper School or Coach Clint McDonald at The Woodlands Christian Academy.

Many people have contributed to Coach Rut's development as a coach, people like:  his wife, Dave Preston, Vince Vario, John Whitt, Keith Coneby, Rob Prigmore, Chris Rupp, John Fox, L.P. Jones, Jack Watkins, Randy Scott, Ron Wolforth, John Chambers, Brad Andrews, Steve Mittwede, and Ray Boothe.

JUNIOR VARSITY
Manager: Terry Blaylock

Coach Terry Blaylock was born in Houston, Texas, and graduated from Pearland High School in 1982, and is also a graduate of Sam Houston State University.  Terry met his wife Michelle at Sam, they have four children and have been married 16 years.

Terry began coaching little league baseball in 1991.  Terry has coached and managed baseball teams for the Huntsville Little League, Spring Klein Baseball Association, and Conroe Area Youth Baseball.  "You know you're making a difference when parents ask at the end of a season if you will be coaching again, and make a request with the league to return to your team."  He has also coached basketball, and served as an assistant coach for his daughters' soccer and softball teams.

Terry served as an assistant coach with the Mustangs Junior High team in 2009.  He really enjoys working with the players, and parents, and is proud to be part of the Mustang Family.  "It is a blessing to be involved with this association, and have everyone striving for the same goals for their sons.  I wish we had become Mustangs a couple of years ago."  Terry will be serving as the Junior Varsity Manager for 2010, and recognizes he has some big shoes to fill.

Terry has been involved in the martial arts since the age of 17, and holds a second degree black belt in Shotokan karate.  He is a firm believer in hard work, and that all players, at a minimum should give 100% effort, 100% of the time during games and practice.  Terry is also a firm believer in the mental game along with the Mustang coaches, he believes that with proper mental preparation and physical execution all teams can reach their full potential.

JUNIOR HIGH
Manager: Rob Boarer

Coach Rob Boarer was born in Spring, Texas on June 22, 1978. He played high school baseball at Spring High School under Coach Bradshaw.  During this time his older brother passed away and the family relocated causing Coach Boarer’s path to change. After high school he enlisted in the Navy Seabees as a builder. Even then he continued to play baseball.  Throughout his life, as a child, as a youth, at Spring High School , while attending Westfield and while in the military, Coach Boarer was always playing baseball for someone somewhere, altogether amounting to 19 years of organized baseball. Upon leaving the military he started a construction company and began living the life of an ex-athlete.  He moved from player to coach as he began coaching his son's baseball teams.

In 2004, Coach Boarer was approached by a scout with the Houston Astros about the possible opportunity for a tryout.  The scout had been contacted by someone who had recently seen him throw and remembered his name. Soon Coach Boarer found himself focused on preparing for a tryout and pitching to a catcher 3 times a week. After a while, he and his wife, Melanie, realized that it was more necessary for his attention to be focused on his family than on a return to baseball.  He canceled the practices, said “no thanks” to the tryouts and has not looked back.

Coach Boarer was blessed to have played under the tutelage of some great fundamental coaches.  He brings that same philosophy to his coaching in all aspects of the game: pitching, hitting and fielding. His comments on being a part of the MtB Mustangs say it all, “It is a major blessing to be a part of something that just feels right from the word go.” “What better feeling for parents than to come and watch their child play baseball with the atmosphere we have and knowing they are sitting next to like minded God fearing people. Its awesome and I am so glad to be a part of it.”

We are blessed to have a man with Coach’s Boarer’s energy, knowledge, experience and attitude coaching our Junior High team – they are the future of the MtB Mustangs and they are in good hands.
