Host Site Announced
This year's Mr. Man tournament has been awarded to Christian Porrier. His bid, having been the most successful, included such perks that did not appear on any other application to host such as refreshments, proximity to the downtown core of Pictou and a place to play.
This will mark the seventh time that the Great Porrier Forum will be hosting the event with the most recent year being the 2000 campaign which saw the first all-Porrier final.

Format Set; Computer Team Named
With the two divisional format, the round robin format has changed. Instead of the a round robin featuring every team playing each other, the tournament will follow the style of the World Junior Hockey Tournament.
The two divisions have been broken down using last year's placements. Teams seeded 1,3,5,7,9 will be in pool A. Teams seeded 2,4,6,8,10 will be in pool B.
With the adding of two new humans, Angela Doggett was seeded 8th and Jen Dunbrack was seeded 9th. The Computer team, which this year will be the Atlanta Thrashers, was seeded 10th.
The pools are as follows:
Pool A
Christian (Colorado)
Dave (Dallas)
Jody (TBA)
Trevor (Detroit)
Angela (Calgary)
Pool B
Nigel (Philadelphia)
Terry (Washington)
Troy (TBA)
Jen (New Jersey)
Computer (Atlanta)
The winner of the Roy Hattie Cup will be the team with the most points. The tie-break procedure will be the same one that decides team placement within the division.

Deadlines Set
Thanks to last night's teleconference, the League's organizational committee has set out this year's deadlines for choosing a team and roster freezes as well as establishing a date for this year's draft.
The deadline for choosing a team will be December 14th at midnight, PDT.
This year's roster freeze will not coincide with the NHL's Christmas trade deadline. The move came despite heavy opposition from the NHL's head office.
"The move was not meant to slight the NHL, but to allow our teams the comfort in knowing that the teams they choose will have the players they expect." thus spoke Zarathustra and he said it was good.
"All I know is that this is a show case event for the NHL and the teams should be represented," commented a rather disgruntled Gary Bettman.
"Screw you guys, I'm goin' home."
The date of this year's draft will be December 15th.
Thursday, November 15
What About the Roy Hattie Cup?
The buzz that has been created with the new tie break format has answered the question as to what to do with the Roy Hattie Cup.
This year's Cup will either go to the which ever divisional leader has the best record. In the event of a tie, the two teams will playoff in a sudden death game that will follow the round robin play.
Thursday, November 15
Toronto and San Jose Selected
Troy Rankin has chosen to go with the San Jose Sharks while Jodes G. MacKenzie has selected the Toronto Maple Leafs.
"We're not locked into any team now, right?" cowardly Jodes queries with a glint of fear in his eye, "The official deadline isn't until mid-December."
"Yes my weak little friend," shouted the Mighty Terry Dunbrack, "Although it doesn't matter since you're doomed anyways. DOOMED!"

Colorado Receives Death Threats
As early as November 17th, the League's governing body has been aware of death threats made towards the current three time defending champions' owner Christian Poirier. Mr. Poirier could not be reached for comment.
A League official talking under the grounds of anonymity said that they have no leads. "At this point in time we have no evidence linking the threats to anyone. We are doing everything in our power to determine who and how many persons are behind the threat. We don't want to jump to any conclusions by saying that the letter was signed by Troy Rankin and Terry Dunbrack because the only motive that they have is that they truly hate Christian's winning every year and would do anything including murder to ensure that he doesn't win."

Predictions for 2001 Mr. Man
I suppose that I could have gone with the "safe" predictions - Colorado wins again; the two new comers, both of whom are female and don't play the game will not make the playoffs, but I don't believe that's how it will play out. Here are ten predicitons starting with the least exciting:
10) New Jersey will have the fewest penalties.
9) Cechmanic will be top goalie.
8) The Rangers will make the Bronze Medal Game.
7) Terry will get drunk after it is over. I had to stick in one of these predictions that I know to be close to a lock.
6) Calgary and Detroit will play to a tie and Calgary would win in a sudden death game.
5) There will be Lasagna.
4) Ryan Smith will win the scoring title making him the first draftee to do so.
3) Calgary will make the playoffs and Detroit won't. If Detroit play the way that they have in the past couple of years this could hold true.
2) Toronto will give Colorado their first loss in three hundred years, or whatever it is, en route to winning their division.
1) Colorado will bow out of the playoffs in the first round. Coming first or second in Pool A likely gives you a 50 percent chance in facing Atlanta in the first round. I don't think that the Avalanche can handle them. In fact I don't see ANY team from Pool A advancing.
Predicted Final Standings
Pool A
1)Toronto
2)Colorado
3)Dallas

5)Detroit
Pool B

Dallas Eliminated From Playoff Contention; -Devils Also Gone
History has been made. In the first year ever that a team could be eliminated before making the playoffs, Dallas (Dave Doggett) grabbed that duvious honour thanks to Toronto beating them by a score of 4-3.
"The computer was unfair" said Dave after bowing out, "but I lost the playing my best game."
Sundin tied it up at three with 2:06 remaining and Renberg tallied the game winner with 1:49.
In other action, New Jersey (Jen Dunbrack) also bit the dust thanks to a loss to Philadelphia. There is some consolation however; both teams win beer for missing the playoffs.

Roy Hattie Cup Decided
The sudden death matchup that was eagerly expected to decide the Roy Hattie Cup as Calgary was the only team to go undefeated in either Pool.
"It sucks," remarked Terry, "but oh well."
The Flames are now gearing up for its first round opponent, the New York Rangers who went 1-3.

Calgary Wins Pool A: Ottawa Wins Pool B
With the playoff round about to start, the tournaments first divisional champs have been named.
In Pool A, the decisive factor in Calgary clinching first place was a balance of defense and offense.
Ottawa took the Pool B crown by winning the tie break between them, Atlanta, and Philadelphia all of whom finished with a 3-1 record.

Avalanche Roll to Fourth Straight Mr. Man
On the backs of Forsberg, Thornton and Hedjuk, Colorado clinches their fourth straight Mr. Man title.
"I feel fine," yammered an exhuberant Christian Poirier, "I feel fine."
The star of the game was Joe Thornton while Milan Hedjuk scored the eventual game winning goal at 10:29 of the second period giving the Avs a 6-4 lead at the time. Colorado advanced to the finals with a 5-4 win over Philadelphia and a 7-4 win over New York.
"I am the greatest in the world. I'm better than all of you guys and your girlfriends too."

Marked For Death
Mark comes to play. That is sentiment that team mates, Opponents and fans alike have echoed throughout Moose's Mr. Man career.
"This tournament is important to me. It's bigger than the Beatles; Better than Ezra."
Mark has an MVP, a Scoring title, and a Mr. Man Championship from 1996. But does he still have respect? The Mr. Man community had wondered that when franchise owner Troy Rankin considered going with the Sharks.
"In the end, I knew that Mark was the answer."
But other teams have welcomed the Rangers appearance over the Sharks.
"I think that they'll be a weaker team with old man Messier on it. The one thing to watch though is that his team mates will be looking out for him," barked Terry Dunbrack, "in other words, if you mess with Mess, things could get messy, eh?"

The Streak is Over
After winning every round robin and post season game for the past three seasons, Christian and the Avalanche skated to a 5-5 tie with the Montreal Canadiens in their opening game of the tournament.
"I think that it's good that I lost, you know what I mean?", spoke Christian, "I mean, you guys know that anyone can win now. Even though I didn't try not to win, I didn't and that should make everyone feel better."
His undefeated streak still remains. The last team to beat Christian was Doc English's Dallas Stars in the first round of the playoffs in 1997. The last team to beat Colorado was the '97 champion Carolina Hurricanes, also in the first round.

Flu Bug Hits Mr. Man; Wings end Appearance Streak
The flu bug has claimed one casualty and the league is waiting to hear if it will claim a second. For the first time, there will be no Detroit Red Wings in the Mr. Man.
Trevor MacLean called minutes before the drop of the puck in the first game of the tourney to reluctantly dropped out.
Earlier in the evening, officials got word that Angela Doggett may not be able to compete due to illness as well. Calgary will remin as a computer team if the unfortunate case were to arise.
The opening game was delayed by 40 minutes while Troy, Christian, Terry and Jen discussed possibly going to an eight team schedule. After much discussion the panel opted to remain with the 10-team sched.
Because of a glitch on the site, Detroit will still be listed in the standings and on the sched but those will be the slots occupied by the Montreal Canadiens marking the first time that four Canadian teams will be represented in the Man.
