The First Quarter Honor Roll was recently published, with 85% of our athletes (that's 17 out of 20!!) making the list! We are very proud of all of you! Keep up the good work--maybe 100% for Second Quarter?! Our outstanding student athletes include: High Honors -- Shelby, Brittney, Cori, Katie, Alex (JV), Shonna (JV), Carrie (JV) & Sarah (JV) Honors-- Amanda, Kayla, Marissa, Ariel, Taylor (JV) Merit-- Jordan, Ashley (JV), Carolyn (JV), Brandy (JV) Great job girls! Can you smell the pizza???!
Fall tryouts were held on November 12th for both the Varsity and JV teams. We were very fortunate to have several newcomers take on the challenge--they will all be great additions to this year's camp squads. These new ladies worked very hard to learn everything in just two days--we were all excited to see their potential! The help of our vets was also appreciated this week. Mrs. Bobbie, Ms. Boyle and I are all looking forward to a great season! A big thank you to Mrs. Gilbo and Ms. Wintle for helping out with judging, as always we were grateful to have you. The results are in! The following ladies will be added to the rosters for the 2010-2011 basketball & competition cheerleading season: VARSITY Marissa S. Brittney O. Amanda F. Jordan L. Erica B. JV Alexandra L. Brandy R. Ashley A. Congratulations to all of you! We are looking forward to having the full team(s) work together! Don't forget, regular practices begin Monday, November 15th, from 3:30 to 5:30 PM, and there will be a Parents Meeting directly after practice on that day, about 5:30 to 6:00 PM. At least one parent must attend unless there are extenuating circumstances--please contact Mrs. Nephew if no parent is able to attend on Monday. Team members will be meeting also, please plan ahead to stay late on Monday. Thanks. The hard work begins...but we'll try to have some fun too! LET'S GET PSYCHED UP!! :)
We had a blast at UCA Camp this summer at the Great Escape Lodge in Lake George! Our Varsity and JV teams both attended for a jam-packed week of cheerleading! The girls did a great job working through all those classes--cheers, chants, game day, stunting, jumping, tosses, pyramids--and earned well deserved breaks at the water park! We also had an awesome team bonding day at the Great Escape theme park on our day off. Hard work always pays off...both teams earned some Blue Superior Ribbons during Final Evals and did a wonderful job during Camp Champs--JV was the only team in their age group (nice improvement ladies!), and the Varsity came home with the 2nd Place trophy for the cheer. The Vikings were also well-represented by some great individual performances during the week. Katie and Shelby did an awesome job during All-American tryouts, though a few mistakes kept them from making the cut this year. We thought you two looked great!! Sarah from JV was chosen by one of the instructors for the "Pin it Forward" program for her positive attitude and friendliness. She in turn recognized a cheerleader from BFA's program, and our own Brianna (from JV) was chosen by a different BFA cheerleader for her hard work, determination and great smile! So great to see our girls making a positive impression on those around them. While we never did get that banana, both teams took home a spirit stick! We had a great time with our buddies too, Brittany B. and Denise. Great work, ladies, thanks for a fun week--what a way to kick off 2011!
Everyone did a great job at tryouts this week, especially on two days' practice! Thanks to everyone for all of their hard work--we're going to have a great summer! Thanks to Kasie for helping out with the teaching this week, and to Miss Hanson and Mrs. Gilbo for judging (especially to Mrs. Gilbo on such short notice!). Here are the results! VARSITY Shelby J. Katie G. Nicole F. Ariel W. Kayla S. Cori W. Cassie L. JV Brianna S. Carrie A. Sarah B. Kylie M. Shonna P. Taylor G. Carolyn S. Congratulations everyone! Don't forget the kickoff party at Mrs. Nephew's house on Monday (6/14) from 4:30 to 6:00 for both JV and Varsity girls and their cheer moms and/or dads. We will be discussing fundraisers, camp, summer and having fun--so bring something yummy to share!
Several young women from our program participated in the MCS Drama Club's production of Blather, Blarney and Balderdash. The play ran for three successful nights after many weeks of preparation, from May 14th to the 16th. Congratulations to Amanda, Nikki, Shonna, Kylie, Brianna and Katherine on a great production!!
The Moriah Central junior class held its prom on Saturday, May 8th. Our very own junior, Cori, was voted Princess at the crowning that evening! Congratulations!
It was another great competition season for the Viking cheerleaders. Faced once again with tough competitors at the larger competitions we attended, we knew we would have to do well to hold our own, and we did, placing right where we thought we should be. While fourth place doesn't sound like much on its own, it is a very good accomplishment and something to be proud of when you are talking about fourth place in a group of excellent teams. Our first challenge was an early competition in Schenectady, the Big 10 Midnight Madness cheerleading competition. It was our first time, but we had tons of fun! We held our own in the small/medium varsity division against bigger schools like Niskayuna and Scotia-Glenville. It was a blast to watch all of the fun categories and big teams. We were so proud of all of our first-timers...not bad at all for only a week of full run-throughs! Next up was the New York State competition in Utica. After losing Nikki to her bad knees again, we had a week to pull Amanda in and make a few changes. These girls rocked the floor!! We worked hard to add in signs and difficulty, with full downs and Jenna & Katie's one-legged single base to top it all off. Our routine looked great--way to go, girls!! Not bad at all to be fourth place Class D in NY. Everyone also deserves a huge pat on the back for turning around the very next day for the CVAC competition in Beekmantown. With a new routine to accommodate their stunting restrictions, these girls were once again amazing with tight motions, good smiles and energy, and nice prep-level stunts (ugh!). We are right to never expect much out of this competition, but we looked awesome! A pretty impressive feat to do two different routines in two days as flawlessly as we did--Great Job, Everyone!! Our season came to an abrupt end when competitions were cancelled and we found out Potsdam would be too late for us to attend. Once again, our hard work and great execution wasn't able to be recognized with a flashier place than fourth, but at least we'll always have it on video to remember how far we came and just how fun we were to watch this season!! We will miss Jenna, Kasie & Torri big time next year, but we also have lots of returning talent and energy--so keep stretching and tumbling, tryouts aren't far away!!
Awesome job in the first quarter! Twenty out of twenty-three of our cheerleaders made the honor roll! Here's hoping for a pizza party for both teams at the second quarter mark--study hard, ladies! High Honors--Kasie, Cori, Katie, Amanda, Shonna (JV), Carrie (JV), Kylie (JV), Brianna (JV) Honors--Jenna, Torri, Shelby, Jarika, Nicole, Marissa, Ariel, Courtney (JV), Taylor (JV) Merit--Kayla, Carolyn (JV), Katherine (JV)
After getting a really late jump, we finally have our JV team in place! We are off to an exciting start. Congratulations to all of you for your hard work in learning the tryout material very quickly. You all did very well! Our 2009-2010 Moriah JV Cheer team will be:
Brianna S.
