Good luck in '07

4/28 Sat 3:00 pm 5 Monroe Area Rebel Vipers Vs Norski Furi Honey Crk 1
The Rebels played their first game of the year against the Norski and came out fighting. At 21 minutes, Marco made a nice move to beath two of the Norski defenders, then beat their keeper for the 1-0 lead. At 34 minutes, the Norski were able to tie the score at 1-1.

The second half saw Dan Lehman back in goal, with the wind at his face. At 65 minutes, Tyler W. received a second yellow and was ejected from the game. Monroe would play a man down and against the wind for the final 25 minutes. Outstanding defense and keeper play kept the score tied as the final whistle sounded!

Good start to the season guys!

Minutes Played: Brady-77, Derek-56, Marco-77, Adam-75, J.Rhoe-60, Michael-54, Griff-59, Ben-82, Bill-71, Dan N-69, Clark-52, Kyle-90, Tyler-57, Matt-8, Dan L-90

4/29 Sun 2:00 pm 8 Regent Blue Vs Monroe Area Rebel Vipers Junction Ridge

Game 2 of the Spring season took the Vipers on the road to a less-than-average soccer field, Junction Ridge. Not only was the field muddy in spots, but the grass was very high as well. Would this prevent the Vipers from being able to do what they wanted to do? Hardly!

At 7 minutes into the game, Brady used both his speed and power to start off the scoring 1-0. At 11 minutes, Marco followed suit and had one of his "surprise the keeper" shots that found the back of the net for the 2-0 lead. Play began to get chippy after this, with one of the Regent players ejected for unsporting behavior. Now the Vipers were playing 11 Vs 10 with subs!

The second half saw the Vipers continue to press. At 50 minutes, Marco put another ball behind the keeper for a 3-0 lead. At this point, it was becoming a shooting frenzy out there! At 16 minutes, Marco was able to connect for his third goal and give the team a 4-0 lead. At this point, the Vipers were switching positions. About this time, one Regent player sat down on the field and proceeded to take off his cleats and shinguards. He was done!

At 70 minutes, Marco was streaking down the right side beating defender after defender. When he was nearly all the way down the field on the right side, he blasted a cross to Ben who

one-timed the ball into the net. Exclamation Point and the 5-0 lead. Tyler made one long run down the left side and beat the keeper for the 6-0 lead. The Regent scored one late goal, then the referee stopped the game with about seven minutes remaining.

Excellent showing for the team in their second game. Minutes played show that everybody contributed to this victory!

Minutes Played: Brady-73, Derek-63, Marco-63, Adam-68, Michael-62, Griff-61, Ben-65, Bill-62, Dan N-62, Clark-61, Kyle-75, Tyler-61, Dan L-75, Tim-62

5/5 Sat 11:00 pm 10 Monroe Rebel Vipers Vs RSC Wildcats Honey Crk 1 (Changed Time)
Monroe came out and put this one away early in their 9-1 victory over the Wildcats. Scoring for the Vipers were Brady (3), Marco (2), Tim (1) Dan Newcomer (1), Dan Lehman (1) Griff (1).

5/19 Sat 11:00 am 11 Monroe Rebel Vipers Vs Baraboo Burn HCrk 1 (Changed Date / Time)

Monroe played the first of their doubleheader games and started out behind the 8-ball. Baraboo scored two first half goals (with the wind) and put the Vipers in a 2-0 hole. But in the second half, Marco scored 45 seconds in to cut the deficit to 2-1. At 4 minutes, the deficit was erased when Marco beat the keeper to tie the score at 2. At 10 minutes into the second half, Marco scored to make the score 3-2 Vipers!!! It looked like the game would be a runaway, but Baraboo had different ideas! They tied the score at 3-3 with 32 minutes to go. The tug-o-war went both ways until Ben blasted a kick from 35 yards out, with 12 minutes remaining, to give the Vipers the 4-3 victory!

Well done Monroe!

5/19 doubleheader make-up game from 4/15 Baraboo Burn Vs Monroe Vipers UW Baraboo
This was the second game of the double header, and Monroe jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals by Ben and Brady! But Baraboo came back to make the score 2-1 before the half. In the second half, Baraboo scored on a PK to tie the game. With just minutes remaining, Justin Rhoe scored the go-ahead to make the score 3-2. Defense was the name of the game now! But with 3 minutes remaining, a foul was called in the box (play that injured Brady), and Baraboo scored

the tying goal. The good news is that the win and the tie pushed Monroe into first place in MAYSA U19 Red bracket!

Good luck at Deforest tomorrow!

5/20 Sun 4:30 pm 15 Norski Furi Vs Monroe Area Rebel Vipers WindsorSportCom5
The Vipers limped into Deforest, bruised and battered from their double header the previous day. Out were Marco, Brady, Tim and Tyler. But these guys know how to play soccer!!!

The Norski came out and applied pressure, and nearly put one in within the first minute. Nate Barta tended goal and stopped that shot, and everything else they could throw at him! The score was 0-0 at the half. A tie was as good as a win because the Norski needed a win to get back in first place. But the Vipers would have none of that!

Outstanding team effort insured the shutout. Ben and Kyle were fantastic at sweeper, and marking backs Bill and Taylor solidified the outside defense. The mid-field was controlled by Dan Newcomer, Clark, Griff, Adam and Dan Lehman, with Rhoe and Derek working much up top.

The Norski were frustrated all match long. At 70 minutes, Newcomer showed the burst of speed he was known for and was on a foot race towards the Norski goal. His shot up high beat the keeper and gave the Vipers their 1-0 lead.

The remaining minutes saw strong pressure on Nate, but our defensive effort by ALL kept the Norski out of the goal and earned the Vipers their 1-0 victory. The boys from Monroe had played 6 contests and had yet to be beaten! Way to go Monroe!!!

6/9 Sat 2:00 pm 18 Monroe Area Rebel Vipers Vs Regent Blue Honey Crk 1
Regent travels to Honey Creek with just 8 players, so Vipers offer them three good sports from their very own team to play the 11 Vs 11 game. The Vipers, crowned champs of MAYSA'a Red Division, win this one going away 9-2.   Goal scorers for the Vipers were:
Adam, Marco (3), Dan Lehman, Griff, Bill, Kyle and Tim. Matt Farrar, Viper playing for the Regent, scored two in the 9-2 Viper victory.

6/10 Sun 4:00 pm 20 RSC Wildcats Vs Monroe Area Rebel Vipers Janesville YSC 10
    Janesville forfeited this game

Badger State Games Schedule

6/22 Vs Poynette @ 5:30

Monroe traveled to Reddan to take on Poynette in the first game, and they came out strong. Unfortunately, Poynette's defense was also strong! After 50 minutes, this game ended in a 0-0 tie.

6/23 Vs Sheboygan @ 9:30 AM.
Once again,Monroe came out strong and scored to first half goals on the strength of Brady's leg! But Sheboygan scored 3 second half goals and won this game in the end. They were a good team, but we could have done better!

6/23 Vs Madison FC Nada
The Vipers knew that if they had any chance of advancing, that they needed to win this game. Early on, Monroe looked as if they would score, and finally Brady did! The 1-0 lead would be the

only scoring, and the victory gave Monroe the second place finish in their pool. They would play tomorrow for the 3rd place medal.

6/24 Vs Platteville Power @ 12:15
Winner of this game would claim the third place medal for the 2007 Badger State Games. Who would it be?

At 4 minutes into the game, Platteville had a header goal off a nice corner kick! Put a tick on the board for the opposition... Then at 19 minutes, the undescribable occurred... Nate had his only bobble of the tournament that led to the second Platteville goal. Both the Platteville players and fans thought this game was over! HEY PLATTEVILLE - there are two halves to each game!!!

At 6 minutes into the second half, Ben had a free kick from Fitchburg - Downtown Fitchburg! That same goal that gave Nate fits in the first half, continued its craziness on Platteville. The ball nutmegged their keeper to cut the deficit to 2-1 with alot of time remaining!!! Monroe would get more opportunities, but with less than 5 minutes remaining, Tim Gellings chipped their defense and Brady was on the fast track to get that ball. And just before their keeper could stop the ball, Brady blasted a bender that hit nothing but net and tied the score at 2-2. Monroe would nearly win the game just before time expired, but the whistle sounded setting the table for the exciting PK Shootout!

Brady was first up, and blasted the first kick into the net.
- Platteville tied the shootout on the next kick
Tim went second, and he too blasted his shot into the net.
- Platteville's shot was STOPPED by Nate, and Monroe was up 2-1.
Big Ben stepped to the mark, and on the ref's whistle, blasted his shot into the net!
- Platteville scored to make the score 3-2
Justin Rhoe was then called upon to take his turn and blasted his shot just inside the left post
- Platteville scored to make the score 4-3
After Dan Lehman's shot was stopped, Platteville needed to make their shot to force the tie. Their shot was a good one to Nate's left, but our Barta was able to get a hand on the shot and deflect it wide. That save gave Monroe the win and the 3rd place medal in the 2007 Badger State Games!

Outstanding 4 games in the tourney! The Badger State Team was made up of:
Brady Whipple - Scored 4 goals and a PK Shootout Goal!
Justin Rhoe - Worked his body off all over the field!
Dan Lehman - Provide both Offensive and Defensive support all weekend long!

Next up: The Oregon Invitational Tourney in July!!!

July 14 Vs River Cities @ 8:00 AM
The Vipers traveled early to Oregon for the 8:00 am kick-off - and everyone made it! Dan Lehman came out and at 2 minutes, beat his defender down the left side, then shot the ball just inside the far post for the 1-0 lead. River Cities battled back and tied the score at 1 at the 11 minute mark. And that is how it went to the half.

From the start of the second half, the Vipers applied strong pressure and earned a corner kick. Dan Lehman took the kick that found its way to the fron of the goal where Tim blasted a nice shot in for the Viper 2-1 lead. With just 9 minutes remaining, guest Andrew made a sweet move to beat his defender, then delivered a shot that found the back of the net fore the final 3-1 Viper victory!

Minutes Played: Brady-50, Derek-25, Andrew-31, Adam-35, Matt-45, Griff-23, Ben-31, Bill-44, Dan N-43, Nate-50, Kyle-50, Dan L-42, Tim-50, Taylor-32

July 14 Vs Allouez @ 2:30 PM
The Vipers came out and applied pressure, but just could not get that ball into the net. At the start of the second half, Brady streaked down the right side line and made a cross to the middle. The Allouez defender was unable to stop or deflect the cross, and Tim finished the play with the goal!

The defense played strong and assisted Nate in the 1-0 shutout victory! The Vipers have gone 2-0 in the first day of this Oregon Tourney!

Minutes Played: Brady-50, Derek-25, Patrick-19, Adam-43, Matt-50, Griff-28, Ben-50, Bill-42, Dan N-inj., Nate-50, Kyle-50, Dan L-46, Tim-50, Taylor-47

Oregon Tourney Standings

July 15 Vs Oregon @ 11:00 AM
For many of the players, this would be their last day of soccer as they cross that bridge from youth to adult. Question that remained was would it be this game or a championship game...

Before the game started, we got word that Taylor would not be available, and that Dan Newcomer's injury would prevent him from playing as well. That was making for a large task to play Oregon without all the horses!

As this game started up, Oregon wasimmediately on the attack. They threw everything at Nate (and the defense), and Monroe was able to keep the ball out of the net. Then at 7 minutes, Monroe earned a corner kick that produced yet another goal. Adam sent a shot into the box that Kyle was able to deflect into the back of the net for the first goal of the game. And that is how the score would go to the half.

At 3 minutes into the second half, Oregon continued to bring heavy pressure and was able to get the tying goal. Then just 5 minutes later, Oregon scored the go ahead goal which proved to be the game winner at 2-1. While the guys fell short of the championship game, they can hold their heads high with an outstanding spring effort, winning 12 times, only 2 losses and 1 tie.

Thanks guys! This coach has had a blast working with you!!!

Game 1, April 8th Vs Platteville Power (Away)
The Rebels went up against a tough Platteville Power team that played their positions well and passed the ball around. After 45 minutes, keeper Dan had been salt and peppered with many shots, but only 5 going in. At halftime, he volunteered to remain in goal. The second half was a better played half for the Rebels. Although they could not get a goal of their own, only one additional goal was yielded in the 6-0 loss.

No doubt the Rebels can play, we just need to play more as a team!

Game 2, April 9th Vs Deerfield Dynasty (Away)
The Rebels were traveling again, this time to Deerfield. We had nearly a full squad, with only Adam missing. The guys came out and set the tone early, putting pressure on the Deerfield defense and keeper. Finally, at 29 minutes, Brad was able to get a ball to Brady who beat the keeper to make the score 1-0. The pressure continued, and at 40 minutes, Justin Rhoe was also able to beat a different keeper that was way too far off his line, and put the Rebels up 2-0! Excellent shot Justin.

In the second half, the guys wasted no time in keeping the score rising. At 50 minutes, Tim beat the keeper to make the score 3-0. And just four minutes later, Ben made a nice quick turning shot that found its way just under the crossbar for the 4-0 lead. The remainder of the game was pure fun for the guys. Deerfield scored at 75 minutes to bring some cheer to the home team, but the Rebels continued to apply pressure. At 86 minutes, with some fancy passing to the open man and to open space, Tim was the receiver of the final pass. He launched a blast that also found the back of the net, just under the crossbar making the final score 5-1.

All in all, the boys played some excellent soccer for about 15 total minutes and put thisa game away. If we can string more passes together, more opportunities will happen in the upcoming games!

Great job guys!
Minutes Played: Ben-59, Ryan-48, Clark-46, Griff-47, Rich-48, Zach-53, Dan-65, Kyle-82, Eggs-57, Bill-55, Tim-75, Matt F-55, Derek-63, Brad-53, Rhoe-67, Brady-70, Matt W-47

Game 3 April 23rd, Vs Norski (Away) Deforest
The U19 Vipers travelled to Deforest to take on the Norski Furi. This was a very aggressive game! The Vipers notched the first goal of the game at the 9 minute mark. Brady Whipple received a long punt from goalkeeper Dan Lehman and outran several defenders and the goalkeeper to bury the ball into the back of the net. The Furi answered two minutes later off a rebound from a clearing attempt from our goalkeeper. A lot of pushing, shoving and tripping later, Justin Griffin was carried off the field with a broken leg at the forty minute mark. The half ended on a 1-1 tie. Great first half by keeper Dan and good passing by the team. Keep the ball to the outside longer! The second half started off where the first half ended, with a lot of fouls but no calls from the ref. The Furi scored their second goal 15 minutes into the half off a rebound from a keeper clearing attempt. Norski scored their final goal of the game off a great long ball that floated into the top back corner of the net. The Vipers battled more injuries to set up some great scoring opportunities but they were unable to find the net again. Second half keeper was Justin Rhoe. The final score was Norski 3, Vipers 1. Get well Justin G.!

30-Apr        3:00 HOME @ HC - Platteville
The U19 guys played their first home game, and were playing Plattevile once again. After the 6-0 loss in week one, the guys had something to prove - that they were a better team than that scored showed.

Platteville applied serious pressure in this game, scoring at 8 minutes into the game. Dan had some fantastic saves to keep the score at just 1-0 into the half.

During the second half, our guys played some incredible defense and had some excellent scoring opportunities as well, nailing the crossbar at one point! But as hard as they tried, they just could not score that tying goal and fell 1-0. This was an outstanding team effort!

20-May        3:00 HOME @ HC - Lodi
Postponed due to rain. The make-up game was the week after shutting out Zia FC 1-0, and from the beginning, this game belonged to Monroe. Although Monroe missed scoring opportunities early, at 15 minutes, Marco sent a ball over to Brady who connected to give Monroe the 1-0 lead. Eight minutes later, Tim was off on a breakaway! Just before he could take the big shot, he was fouled in the box setting up a Tim PK! Tim stepped to the ball and burried it in the net for the 2-0 lead. And that is how we went to halftime!

The second half was more of the same with Monroe apply steady heavy pressure. At 54 minutes, Brady received a ball from Marco and shot it into and through the net to make the score 3-0. Two minutes later, Tim passed to Marco who FINALLY blasted a shot into the net to make the score 4-0. Monroe was on a roll and on their way to a second consecutive shutout! At 65 minutes, Tim assisted on another goal, this time back to Brady, his third of the game! The Rebels win this one going away 5-0!

Minutes Played: Bill-61, Matt F-77, Rich-52, Brad-56, Dan-74, Kyle-90, Eric-68, Brady-67, Derek-71, Tim-71, Adam-52, Zach-59, Marco-62, Ben-73, Clark-57

14-May        5:00 Away @ Sheehan Zia FC
The boys headed North to Sun Prairie and took on a big Zia FC team. Playing with only three subs, Monroe held its own, especially performing the offside trap to perfection. After about seven calls, the Zia boys were aggitated and upset. Way to work together in the back for the offside call!

Dan played keeper the entire game and kept Zia out of the goal for the entire 90 minutes! With a couple minutes remaining, Matt chipped the ball up to Brady, who was off to the races. As the Zia defense was collapsing on Brady, Brady passed the ball out wide left to an open and streaking Marco! The Zia keeper came out to cut down the angle, so Marco chipped the ball over his head and into the goal for the Rebels 1-0 win!

Excellent play by all that attended this game on a dreary Mother's Day late afternoon. Hopefully you can keep things going in your upcoming games!

Minutes Played: Bill-59, Matt F-76, Rich-55, Brad-59, Dan-90, Kyle-85, Eric-90, Brady-90, Derek-62, Tim-90, Adam-56, Matt W-60, Marco-59, Ryan-59

21-May        3:00 HOME @ HC - MYSC White
The guys took on a very well skilled soccer team today from Madison, and gave them a run for their money! Although the final score was 4-2 in favor of Yahara, the Rebels challenged hard throughout this entire game! The combination up front of Marco and Brady is very exciting to watch. They were the goal scorers in this game for the Rebels. Dan Lehman played outstandingly in goal, keeping the Rebels in this game.

With the Reddan Thunder tournament coming up on June 3rd and 4th, these guys appear to be ready to make a run in those games!

3-4 June        Reddan Thunder Tournament, Reddan Park
Game 1 Vs Waunakee United Saturday 10:05 Field 9

The Rebels started off the Thunder Tourney in great style with a 3-0 shutout of the Waunakee United. At 13 minutes, Tim made a nice cross-the-goal pass to Marco who redirected the ball into the net for the Rebels first score of the game. The Rebels kept applying pressure, and at 22 minutes, Matt Farrar made a strong run up the middle of the field from sweeper! It appeared that Waunakee was expecting the pass and moved to cover. But Matt dribbled through the openings and beat the keeper for the 2-0 lead.

The second half saw more of the same, and at 33 minutes, Brad made a pass to Marco who finished the scoring and gave the Rebels their 3-0 game one victory.

Dan Lehman was incredible in goal with great saves and sure hands in the shutout victory!

Game 2 Vs Oregon Sting Saturday 3:00 Field 12
Game 2 was against a team from Oregon, but these guys were true U19s, freshman in college! They were fast and strong and played extremely well. But the Rebel Defense was up for the challenge, keeping them out of the goal in the first half. At 46 minutes, however, the Sting stung us and scored the first goal. But that would be the only scoring in the Rebel loss as Dan Lehman and the defense did an outstanding job!

Game 3 Vs Moline Illinois B17 Sunday 10:30 Field 11
This game had much riding on it as the winner would go on to the semi finals and the loser would go on to the consolation game. With the Rebels ahead by one point going into this game, a tie would favor the Rebels! But at 11 minutes, the defense had a mental lapse and Moline scored to take a 1-0 lead. And just two minutes later, the Rebels were looking at a 2-0 deficit and a probable consolation game next...

But wait, the next goal would prove to either bury the Rebels or bring them back to life. At 26 minutes, Ben made a nice pass to Marco who scored the Rebels first goal and cut the deficit in half.

The second half saw the boys put heavy pressure on the boys from Moline, but they just could not tie the game up. Then, with about 2 minutes remaining in the game, the Rebels were fouled about 24 yards out. Ben was called upon to take the kick. Would he kick a field goal or a shot on goal.

Drumroll Please....

Ben's blast found the upper left corner of the goal and tied the game at 2. The Rebels just needed to hang on and secure the tie for a trip to the semi fianls. And as time expired, the tired Rebels were extremely happy with the outcome.

Next up: The Panthers from Illinois!

Semi Final Game at 2:00 Vs the Panthers from Illinois
The Panthers won their bracket and earned the right to play the number two seed from our bracket - US! This was a skilled team and came out with high intensity. After 3 minutes, the Rebels were staring, once again, at a 2-0 deficit with 57 minutes to go. This had the makings of an ugly, tourney ending game.

But wait, the Rebels didn't come here to the semis to hang their cleats - they came to play! And at six minutes, Justin made a pass to Marco who blasted the ball into the net to make the game interesting at 2-1. The boys were playing with a lot of heart and emotion, keeping their opponent out of their goal and generating some scoring attempts. But the game went to half with the Rebels trailing 2-1.

There must have been some magic in the water they drank at half, for when the referee started the second half, the Rebels went on the attack. Timmy to Brady, was a sure two man attack. Timmy drove the field and sprung Brady, and Brady tied it up! (OK, sing that to Frosty the Snowman)!

With 29 minutes to go, the next goal would certainly prove large. Brady on a near breakaway nearly gave the Rebels the go-ahead goal. But the shot just missed. Dan, on the other side of the field, came up large and made some saves that kept the game tied at two. With no more goals scored and time expired, the game was heading for a shootout. A bite-your-nails shootout. Pressure pressure pressure.

Leading off for the Rebels was Marco... Shot... Goal #1 (Opponent tied it up)
Second kicker, Tim... Shot... Goal #2 (Opponent tied it up)
Third Kicker, Sweeper Kyle... Shot... Goal #3 (Opponent tied it up)
Fourth Kicker, Sweeper Matt... Shot... Goal #4 (Opponent tied it up)
Fifth Kicker, Keeper Dan... Shot... Goal #5 (Opponent tied it up)
Sixth Kicker, Speedy Brady... Shot... Goal #6 (Opponent tied it up)
Seventh Kicker, the Diggsymobile... Shot... Goal #7 (Opponent tied it up)
Eighth Kicker, Tall Man Ben... Shot... Goal #8 (Opponent tied it up)

Scratch that... Opponent didn't tie it up! On their eighth shot, Dan dove low and hard to his left and got his fingertips on the ball, just enough to give the Rebels their semi final, energy draining victory and send them to the championship.

Their opponent: The Oregon Sting... Again

Championship Game at 4:50 Vs the Oregon Sting
We could go into song on this game too, but the players were just simply exhausted. At 12 minutes, Oregon made a strong drive in the box, but we fouled to stop him. Unfortunately for Dan, that created a PK opportunity for Oregon. The PK shot was a missile that Dan had no chance at stopping. Oregon scored moments later, and it appeared that the Rebels were going to be creamed. But the defense stepped up and kept Oregon out of the goal for the remainder of the game.

To show the boys kept fighting, they continued to try to get a ball by the large Oregon keeper. And then, with just a couple minutes remaining, Derek hit a shot that found its way into the net, just inside the left post for the Rebels final score of the tournament and the 2-1 defeat. The Rebels had finished second in the Varsity Division Thunder Tournament.

Fantastic!

Player's Minute Notes: With just 2 subs for the first two games, 3 for the third (until Adam was injured), and 2 for the final two games, minutes played are not an issue! However, I think it is safe to say that every player is feeling their 5 games and mega minutes played this Monday after the tournament. It was a fun, satisfying, and enjoyable show you guys put on for the spectators this past weekend. Thanks!

11-Jun        5:00 HOME @ HC - GDU Deerfield
In the season finale, the Rebels took on the GDU Dynasty and once again, defeated them going away 7-2. With just 12 players for the Rebels, the boys would not have the luxury of rest in this game. For Deerfield, they were playing with just 10 players; however, many of their players were college freshman.

Early on, the Rebels applied immediate pressure. At 3 minutes, Derek made some super moves to set up a scoring opportunity and unleased a rocket that found nothing but net. But no more scoring would occur for the next 14 minutes as the ball remained in the midfield. At 17 minutes, Marco was sent on the fly on a nice ball from Matt. Marco beat the keeper for the Rebels 2-0 lead, and the scoring gate was opened! At 22 minutes, Justin fought for the ball in front of the keeper, worked for space and beat the keeper for the 3-0 lead.

The Rebels were applying heavy pressure at 25 minutes when Marco unleased another nice shot to make the score 4-0. The boys were unstoppable! At 36 minutes, Marco once again found himself 1 V 1 with the keeper and chipped the ball into the goal for the hatrick and the 5-0 lead. Marco could not be stopped by Deerfield! Then, just before half, Matt sent another perfect thru ball to Marco, putting him 1 V 1 against the keeper again. This time, he faked the shot, making the keeper commit, then Marco dribbled by and passed the ball into the open net for the 6-0 halftime score!

In the second half, Marco volunteered to play goal. Goal? He doesn't know how to play goal! But he did a great job and had some nice kicks to keep Deerfield out of the net until the 66th and 67th minute, when Deerfield scored two to make the score 6-2. For good measure, at 69 minutes, Tim worked the ball down the left side into the corner, beat two defenders, and from a difficult angle, beat the keeper to make the final score 7-2. Outstanding performance and fantastic job by the Rebels!

You guys finished the season with 4 wins and 4 losses, as well as second place in the Reddan Thunder tournament! Way To Go! Next up: Wisconsin Badger State Games!

Badger State Games

23-Jun 6:45 PM Game 1 Vs Madison Bob Saget
The guys traveled for a Friday night game against a "throw together" college group of players. Early, early on, Brady was attacking and blasted a strong left foot shot off the crossbar. After a minute or so, the ball finally came back to earth! The play went back and forth until 18:30 into the first half. Alex Solawetz mad a super header over to a wide open Dan who put the ball into the net for the Rebels first score of the game. Excellent attack on the opponent. And the guys would carry that 1-0 lead into halftime.

During the second half, the Rebels began to take more control. At 3:30 into the second half, Alex intercepted a ball, and turned and blasted the ball past the keeper to give the Rebels a 2-0 lead! After more pressure, the Rebels struck again 18:00 minutes into the second half. Clark sent a nice ball through the goal box, and the goalie missed the kick save. The excellent pass hit Alex on his leg and rebounded towards the goal. Alex ran to the ball and blasted it in for the Rebels final score of the game. Outstanding defense against the older players! Nate - 1st shutout! Fantastic start to the Badger State Tournament!

24-Jun 10:15 Game 2 Vs Zia Soccer Club
The guys knew this team, barely squeezing out a 1-0 victory in Sun Prairie last month. A win would guarantee the Rebels a pass to the semi finals Sunday. The teams battled, with Monroe applying serious pressure many time. Brady once again was pounding their defense, but just could not score. Zia applied pressure as well, glancing a ball off the cross bar. In the end, nobody scored and the Rebels earned a 0-0 tie.

Later that day, many watched Madison Bob Saget defeat Zia 2-1, enabling the Rebels to advance to the semi finals against the winner of Zia and Saget's next game at 6:00!

Good Luck tomorrow, Rebels!!!

25-Jun 9:45 Game 3 Vs Madison Bob Saget
The winner of this game would advance to the gold medal game, so there was much to be settled. Unfortunately for the Rebels, Bob Saget had their entire team for this game and they were on the attack from the start. At 6 minutes, Madison was able to beat Nate and take the 1-0 lead. But just 3 minutes later, Brady beat their keeper to tie the score at one. Unfortunately, Madison would notch two more goals (at 11 and 16 minutes) and take a 3-1 lead into halftime.

The Rebels came out with some life and played Madison even until a PK was awarded to them at 45 minutes. That shot and goal made the final score 4-1. Our guys played well in the entire tournament, once again playing college aged players in two of the matches. Although the final outcome is not what you wanted, the competition was exactly what we were looking for!

Waunakee Soccer Cup, August 12-13

12-Aug 11:15 Game 1 Vs Cap City Soccer
The Rebels came out on fire in this pre season warm-up and quickly jumped all over the Cap City team. Kyle K. made a nice pass to Marco who rocketted a shot into the net for the Rebels first goal at 4 minutes. And the scoring spree was on.

Marco scored again at 6 and 7 minutes for the quickest Hatrick in Rebels history. Matt scored at 11 minutes, then Dylan scored at 14 minutes to take the game to the half at 5-0.

The second half saw more of the same with Kyle feeding Derek for goal #6 at 32 min. Marco scored #7 at 38 min. Tim fed Dan for #8 at 43 min, and Dylan finished off the scoring at 46 minutes and the 9-0 opening game win! Awesome performance Rebels!

13-Aug 7:30 Game 2 Vs Waunakee Soccer Club
It took the Rebels a few minutes to wake up and play soccer. But at 17 minutes, Derek fed Tim who blasted the game's first goal and the 1-0 lead. One minute later, Marco sprung Derek who finished for the 2-0 lead! Then, at 25 minutes in, Justin Rhoe found Kyle Klop who made the score 3-0 at the half.

The second half was a mirror image of the first. This time, Kyle Klop was feeding Marco who blasted the ball into the net at 31 minutes. At 35 minutes, Tim found Marco again, and Marco's shot found the back of the net for the 5-0 lead. Then at 55 minutes, Kyle Klop finished the scoring as the Rebels defeated the Waunakee Soccer Club 6-0.

Next game, at 1:45, will be for the championship.

13-Aug 1:45 Game 3 Vs Chisago Lakes Soccer Club
The Rebels came out strong in this game, but Chisago Lakes was a strong opponent. Just before half, they were able to put a well placed shot into the net at 26 minutes. And that was how the game went into the half.

The second half saw C.L. continue pressure, and at 35 minutes, they were able to score and take a 2-0 lead. With just 12 minutes remaining, Matt moved up the field and sprung Marco down the left side. Marco's shot found the net and cut the score to 2-1. But with 7 minutes remaining, CL was able to spring their speedy striker thru the defense off a free kick and make the final score 3-1.
