Below is our Spring Schedule. Good Luck Boys!
April 20th - Home Vs Mt. Horeb
The boys from Monroe opened up their season at home versus the squad from Mt. Horeb with Coach Ellen at the helm! While Monroe kept pressure on the Mt. Horeb defense, the game remained scoreless thru the first half. But at 20 minutes, Matt Farrar sent a free kick to the spot in front of the goal occupied by Tim Gellings. Tim controlled the ball and turned and put one past the Mt. Horeb keeper for the 1-0 lead.
But Mt. Horeb was able to tie the score, just 8 minutes later on a beautifully placed free kick of their own. This game was getting rough, and at the 40 minute mark, Monroe had sent a nice high cross to the middle of the penalty area where Griff was waiting. But before the ball came down to him, a Mt. Horeb player planted a forearm into the middle of Griff's back. Foul and a PK.
Griff converted the PK to put Monroe up 2-1 at the half.
The second half saw even more chippy play by both teams and many, many scoring opportunities. But no more goal could be earned and this game ended up as a 2-1 opening game win for Monroe.
April 26 - Away at Belleville
Sugar River / Belleville was the team that knocked out Monroe HS in the first round of the soccer play-offs last fall, so a little revenge was in the air. Monroe controlled play throughout the entire game, but could only muster up one goal. Like the first game, at 40 minutes, Dan Lehman was 1 V 1 with the keeper. As the ball was above Dan and on the other side of the keeper, the keeper jumped up on Dan to try and knock the ball away. Unfortunately for their keeper, he could not get the ball and took out Dan, setting up a PK.
Dan stepped up and put the ball into the back of the net for Monroe's lone goal and the 1-0 lead. While more opportunities to score were there, Monroe could not notch the second goal. The boys left Belleville with the 1-0 victory and the 2-0 record!
May 4th Vs Oregon
Monroe was definitely ready to play Oregon today, and from the start, the attack was on! Monroe started the game with the wind at their backs - a huge benefit at Honey Creek, At 5 minutes, Matt was driving up the middle of the field and was fouled. From about 24 yards out, Dan rifled a shot over the wall and into the back of the net to give Monroe a 1-0 lead!
While Monroe would still have opportunities, the next goal did not occur until the 32 minute mark. Ben Knaus made a cross field throw in that found Tim's head. Tim redirected the ball past the keep to give Monroe the 2-0 lead!
At 40 minutes, Derek was driving the middle of the attacking end of the field and was fouled. Dan stepped up and plant a beautiful shot past the keeper (from about 26 yards) to make the score 3-0 at the half.
The second half saw more of the same! At 64 minutes, Tim sent a ball in the air up the middle of the field. Derek touched it to a wide open Griff who beat the keeper and made the score 4-0.
At 82 minutes, Bill Hubbard got on the scoring board, receiving a great pass from Connor and finishing for the 5-0 lead.
Then at 84 minutes, Derek sprung Ben who finally notched his first goal of the season and made the final tally 6-0 Monroe!!!
Excellent performance Guys!
May 10th - Away at Platteville
Platteville has always been a strong soccer team, and this game was no exception. Monroe traveled to Platteville without the services of Nate Barta, Ben Knaus, Jake Gross and Nick Hendrickson. Fortunately we were able to call up Michael Gross and Andrew Aurit from the U17 team, because we would need them!
Four minutes into the game, Connor came out with a pulled hammy - he would not recover during the game. This left the remaining 86 minutes with just the two subs..... Tony Henke moved back to marking back and played very well.
Platteville struck first on a PK to give them the 1-0 lead. While Monroe would take a few shots, the back of the net could not be found during the first half.
Seven minutes into the second halfMichael chipped a ball to a racing Tim Gellings. As the keeper came out, Tim chipped the ball over the keeper into the back of the net to tie the game at 1-1. This was an exciting nail-biter!
At 60 minutes, Platteville was able to gain the lead once again on a nice move by their forward and quick shot to make the score 2-1. But at the 75 minute mark, Andre Aurit was moving down the left side of the box and was fouled. Tim Gellings was called to take the PK and scored to tie this game up!
During the final 15 minutes, Monroe had a couple of great scoring opportunities, but each would be denied. This game ended in a fitting 2-2 tie!
May 18th - Home Against Sugar River
Here we go again! After beating Sugar River 1-0 on April 26th, the boys from Monroe were hosting the Sugar Boys at Honey Creek. Coach Ellen was once again managing the bench! And Monroe put this game away early! Three minutes into the game, Dan knocked the ball into the net on a nice cross to him for the 1-0 lead! At the 30 minute mark, Tim connected for the 2-0 Monroe lead. Just one minute later, Griff took a shot from left mid that found nothing but net and a 3-0 lead! And that is the way the first 45 minutes would end.
In the second half, Tony jumped on the scoring train and notched one at the 63rd minute and the 4-0 lead. But Sugar River would get on the board in the 66th minute with a goal by Eric Ellenberger. And that is how this game would end, with Monroe winning 4-1 and upping their record to 4-0-1. And with the forfeit by Deforest, the Monroe boys' record is now 5-0-1 with the two Regent teams remaining.
June 7th - Home Against Regent Revolution
After some thunderstorms and wicked winds / rain blew through Monroe, the sky began to clear up, just in time for the game! Monroe controlled the ball from the start, missing on several scoring opportunities. Late into the first half, Nick Hendrickson scored off a beautiful through ball pass from Bill Hubbard for the 1-0 lead. Moments later, Derek Kundert beat his defender around the right side and took it to the goal. From an incredible angle, Digsy blasted the ball past the keeper for the 2-0 half time lead!
The second half saw more of the same, with the puddles in the field preventing a rolling ball from going out of bounds. But it appeared the guys were having a blast. Nick notched the only second half goal for Monroe that was immediately followed by a Regent goal to bring the final tally to 3-1, Rebels. With one more game, the team needs a win to win the U19 Classic division for its second straight year!
Can't wait til Badger State!
June 19th - AWAY Against Regent Scorpions
The season finale would finally be played at Reddan Park. The Monroe boys knew if they won, they would be the champs of the U19 league, and they did just that! Eight minutes into the game, Derek fed Griff who scored a beauty with his left foot! At 17 minutes, Matt made the score 2-0. At 33 minutes, Brad lobbed a corner kick that Dan handled and scored on to make the score 3-0. Then just before the half, Tim launched a rocket free kick that found the back of the net and made the score at the half 4-0!
The second half had more of the same with Griff scoring at 55 minutes. At 70 minutes, Derek fed Tim to make the score 6-0. At 75 minutes, Matt made a nice move towards the goal and was leveled, setting up a PK. Griff stepped up and notched the 7th goal, and his first ever hatrick! Way to go GRIFF!
Regent added a goal late and the final score was 7-1, Monroe. Champions of the Classic League!
June 28-29 - Badger State Games
The season (and youth careers) was coming to an end this weekend with the end of soccer games at Badger State.
Game 1 Vs Marshfield Lightning
The guys started off slow going to the half 0-0 in the first tournament game. Just when we were all wondering if we would ever score, Dan Lehman made a nice pass to Justin Rhoe, who scored to get Monroe on the board 1-0. Five minutes later, Dan assisted on another ball, this time to "Welcome back to the field" Kyle Klopfenstein! Game one ended and the guys from Monroe were victorious 2-0!
Game 2 Vs Albion Headbutters (funny name for some excellent soccer players)
These college freshman, grads from Memorial, were outstanding soccer players and had the guys from Monroe back on their heels. The score at the half was 1 for the Headbutts and 0 for Monroe. Six minutes into the second half, Matt crossed a ball that bounced over the defender's foot, was redirected by Griff and put into the net by Justin Rhoe to tie the game at 1. But the Headbutts were too strong, especially with their throw-ins, and notched their second goal, the game winner, with 13 minutes remaining. Monroe finished day 1 at 1 win and 1 loss, 10 points.
Game 3 Vs Baraboo
Here's what Monroe was faced with: Win and advance to the Bronze Medal game or go home. A tie would benefit Baraboo in the tiebreaks. Monroe was determined to play for the bronze, and came out strong! Four minutes into the game, Justin Rhoe passed over to Dan Lehman who put the ball into the goal for the 1-0 lead - Monroe was just where they needed to be - in the lead! At 13 minutes, Dan Lehman was tackled in the box, earning himself a PK opportunity. And Dan from 12 yards is deadly. Monroe 2, Baraboo Zero! The second half saw a turn in the field direction for Monroe as well as a change in refereeing! Not in Monroe's favor, either. Numerous Yellow cards were thrown against Monroe, but no player received two, THANKS Ref! While the calls seemed to be trying to give Baraboo opportunities, they could only capitalize on one gift PK that Ben Knaus nearly stopped! Monroe won the third game 2-1 and advanced to the Bronze Medal game against Oregon!
Bronze Medal Game Vs Oregon!
During the pre game, we could all see how well Oregon warmed up. We had also watched their loss (1-0 PK goal) to Platteville the day prior, so knew we would have our work cut out. While Oregon had the field positioning down, passing like wizards through Monroe, they were not able to score in the first half. Fortunately, Monroe was. Fifteen minutes into the first half, Dan and Griff were on a ball that Dan pulled away. With two defenders closing in, Dan split the defenders to Matt, who one touched the ball past the Oregon sweeper, finding himself 1 Vs 1 against the keeper. Matt dribbled to his right and beat the Oregon keeper far post to give Monroe the 1-0 lead. That was the good news. The bad news was that 35 minutes remained in the game. At the half, the guys talked amongst themselves on what they were all about and what they were going to do - FINISH.
The second half started out with Monroe fending off Oregon attack after attack, but they could not score. With 17 minutes remaining, Klop took a shot on the Oregon keeper who had come out a little too far. Klop's shot was over the keeper's hands and fell just under the crossbar for the 2-0 lead.
The guys could taste the Bronze Medal and fought off Oregon with a 2-0 SHUTOUT. Ben Knaus and the terrific Monroe defense shutout Oregon and won the Bronze in their last youth soccer game! Outstanding performance!
The Bronze Medalist Badger State team was made up of the following players:
Tony Henke, Dylan Boehme, Connor Lind, Nick Hendrickson, Bill Hubbard, Matt Farrar, Kyle Klopfenstein, Nate Barta (inj.), Just Griffin, Bill Farrar, Ben Knaus, Tim Gellings, Dan Lehman, Justin Rhoe and Kyle Frint!

Warriors traveled to Yahara to take on the "professionally trained" MYSC Black with just 11 players. MYSC struck first to gain a 1-0 advantage. Matt Farrar tied the game up at the 4 minute mark! MYSC gained a 2-1 advantage, but Michael Gross scored to tie it at 2 at the 13 minute mark (on a pass from Andrew Aurit). Then, once again, MYSC took a 3-2 lead, but Andrew tied the score just before halftime. The Warriors, playing with 11, were in this game at the half!
During the second half, the Warriors had some great scoring opportunities, but could not gain the lead until the 63 minute mark. Andrew put a nice touch shot passed the keeper that found its way just inside the left post for the Warriors first lead of the game!!! Then at 86 minutes, Brad had the ball on his foot at midfield and single handedly dribbles past the MYSC defenders, turned the corner and beat the keeper for the final 5-3 winning score! This win, coupled with the Forfeit by Columbus, gives the Warriors a 4-4 record for the Spring 2007 season!!!
