May-30 Home Vs Magic

May-16 Away Vs Janesville

May-2 Home Vs Milton

The girls played a very strong Milton team that attacked all game long.  But once again, anchored by Elicia in goal, they were able to fend off most of the attacks.  Gabby scored in the first half to give the Twisters a 1-0 lead.  Milton was able to come back and tie it in the second half.  Very well played game by the Twisters defense in limiting Milton to just the one goal.

Apr-25 Home Vs the Magic Spark

What a fun, wet game of soocer yesterday in the first game of the spring season.  And to escape with a 2-1 victory was the icing on the cake.  All the girls played well, including our two newest additions Ellie and Allison.  While the defense did their job in shutting down the Magic, we were able to score 2 goals (Hayley and Ashley) on our way to the 2-1 victory!

9-6-2008  The New Look U14 Twisters took the field against the Magic Soccer Club and had a very positive game!  Gabby Ludwig had another outstanding game, notching two goals in the first half, and Whitney Disch scored her first goal of the season to give the Twisters a 3-0.  That's all it took as the Defense stopped all the drives by the Magic and earned the 3-0 shutout.  Elicia Frie was the keeper in the first half and Allison Crubaugh was the keeper in the second half.  The defense was solidified by Ellyn Grossen, Tuti Leal, Abby Rogerson, Jessica Farrar, Lez'lee and Leeza Foley and Ashley Curtis.  The Offense applied lots of pressure with Kaitlin and Cassie Ross, Jocely Breausire, Hayley Keene, Elicia Frie, Leeza and Lez'ley Foley, Ashley Curtis, Becca Maxwell, Ellyn Grossen and Allison Crubaugh!  Congrats on winning Game #1!

9-13-2008  The girls traveled to Janesville and sputtered in the first away game, losing 4-0 to Janesville.  The team did not show the intensity that we have seen at practice or in game 1 of the season.  Good news is we have another game tomorrow, so let's play that one the way you know how to play!

9-14-2008  Girls, pack a lunch 'cause we traveling to Reedsburg!  After nearly 2 hours of driving, the 13 strong Twisters warmed up at the wet Reedsburg field.  While the conditions were similar to what they played in at Janesville, the effort and results were definitely better!

Early on in the first half, Ellie Grossen notched her first goal... ever, giving the Twisters the early 1-0 lead.  Then just a few minutes later, Kaitlin made an excellent cross that bounced its way through the middle of the field to left wing Hayley, who one-timed her shot into the net for the Twisters 2-0 lead.  Things were looking mighty fine for the girls from Monroe.  Not to be outdone, Kaitlin Ross had an opportunity that she took full advantage of, beating the Reedsburg keeper late in the first half to make the score 3-0.  Keeper Elicia Frie, along with her tough defense in Ashley Curtis, Abby Rogerson, Jessie Farrar and "Tuti Fruiti" Leal stopped the attacks by Reedsburg in the first half.

During the second half, Reedsburg applie more pressure, and our girls were getting a little tired.  Reedsburg converted on a nice header goal to bring the score to 3-1 Monroe.  But moments later, Whitney Disch blasted a ball past their keeper to get the marging back to 3 at 4-1.  Reedsburg added a late goal, making the final score 4-2 Twisters.

The middle of the field was played solidly by Becca Maxwell, Leeza Foley, Jocelyn Beausire, and Alexa Dash in securing the win for Monroe.  Much better performance in this game girls!  You're off next weekend for Cheese Days, but have two games the following week.  Work hard at practice and let's get ready for more soccer!  Your record now stands at 2 wins 1 loss!

9-27-2008  The Twisters traveled to Yahara Fields and played the MYSC White team.  After a scoreless 1st half, the Twisters got on the board when Kaitlin Ross passed to her sister, Cassie, who in turn shot the ball into the net for the 1-0 lead.  But MYSC came back and tied the score at 1-1.  Both team had opportunities, but this game finished in a tie!

9-28-2008  Reedsburg paid a visit to Monroe and beat up on the Twisters 7-1.  The Twister lone goal was scored by Elicia Frie in the loss.

10-18-2008  After a three week layoff, the girls hosted the MYSC White team at Honey Creek.  The first half was a dandy, with the Twisters scoring two goals!  The first was on a pass from Hayley to Gabby, who in turn crossed the ball to Kaitlin who finished the play with a goal.  The second was another cross from Gabby, this time to Chandra, who burried the ball for the second score of the game!

In the second half, MYSC scored early on to make the score 2-1.  Gabby then answered 4 minutes later with a goal to make the score 3-1.  MYSC then scored two goals to tie the game at 3-3.  Would this game end in a tie?  Would MYSC get the go-ahead goal?  No and No!  With three minutes remaining, Kaitlin took a shot from long distance that went over the keeper's head and found nothing but the back of the net.  The Twisters win 4-3 on an excellent team effort!

10-19-2008  Revenge was in the air for the Twisters, who were playing Janesville at home.  Their last meeting was a lopsided loss at Janesville.  The game started a little shaky for Monroe as Janesville scored the first goal of the game.  But moments later, Kaitlin was beating her drum down the right side and crossed the ball to the middle of the field where sister Cassie was there to finish the play and tie the score!  Moments later, it looked like the same play!  Kaitlin to Cassie for the 2-1 lead going into halftime.

Unlike the previous game, where the opponent climbed back into the game, the Twisters played a solid half and shut out the team from Janesville.  For good measure, Gabby assisted on a goal to the hatrick earner, Cassie Ross.  Twisters win this game 3-1!

10-26-2008  The season finale!  With the end of October upon us, we know that the weather can turn cold and nasty pretty quickily - and today was the turning point day!  The wind was blowing and the temperature was dropping, making for a ridiculously freezing day to play, coach or watch the girls play!  But the final result was exactly  what the girls were playing for - another victory - their 5th on the season!

At 25 minutes, Kaitlin notched the first goal of the game and gave the Twisters a lead they would not give up.  Four minutes later, Ashley scored to give the girls a 2-0 lead.  The pressure continued to be applied, and Jocelyn scored her first goal of the season to give the Twisters the 3-0 lead going into the half.

The second half could be different as the wind would now be blowing in the Twisters' faces.  Within the first few minutes, the Magic Spark scored to make it a 3-1 lead for the Twisters.  Would the wind prove to be the equalizer for the Spark?  Would they score the next goal and make the Twisters sweat?  No and ... No!  Kaitlin made sure she would leave another Kodak moment in the minds of all watching.  She beat her defende at midfield and sprinted hard down the right side.  She made the turn toward the goal and unleashed a bullet that found nothing but net!  Kaitlin's goal was the last score of the game in the Twisters 4-1 victory, and her last goal of her Monroe Rebel career as her family will be moving to soccer strong Dallas, Texas.

We will all miss the Ross family, Cassie and Kaitlin (U13 and U14 players), as well as mom and dad and Lauren!  We all wish you the best of luck in your relocation to Big-D!

Thanks to all the players who contributed in the 5 win, 2 loss, 1 tie season!  This includes:

Elicia - Great year on the field and in goal.  You are on a three game WIN streak!

The Defensive Diamond was played solidly by:

Ellie and Lez'ley at sweeper, Jessie and Abby at marking backs, and Tuti at stopper.

The midfield was controlled by:  Leeza, Becca, Allison and Alexa

Outside mids were successfully played by Jocelyn, Hayley and Kaitlin

Thanks for the minutes provided by Kelley Bauman and Chandra McGuire

And the scorers up top included Ashley, Whitney, Gabby and Cassie.  Have a great of season with your other activies and we'll see you in the Spring.  We'll most likely begin practing once the snow melts in late March / early April!

Here's the final standings for the Fall Classic B league.  With the 5 win 2 loss and 1 tie season, the Twisters finished in second place, 3 points behind the team from Reedsburg.  You were the only team to defeat Reedsburg, and you did it up there!

04/19 - Sat 2:00 pm Stoughton Hot Shots Vs Twisters Home

The Twisters got their season off on the right foot with  2-1 hard earned victory over Stoughton.  Less than 2 minutes into the game the Twisters were applying immediate pressure.  Jessie worked the left side, then sent a ball into the middle.  Kirstie fought off the defender and got the ball to Chelsea.  Chelsea received the ball, turned and shot the ball past the Stoughton keeper to give the Twisters a 1-0 lead.  While the Twisters would apply additional pressure the rest of the first half, they could not notch another goal.  Nicole stopped all shots by Stoughton as well as outstanding defensive support by Ellie, Audrey, Lily, Jessica Bell and Alyssa.

Jessica Farrar started in goal the second half.  But at the 51 minute mark, Stoughton was able to get good pressure and a strong shot found the back of the net to tie the score at 1.  But the Twisters were not done yet!  At 58 minutes, Abby Rogerson worked 1 V 1 against the Stoughton left marking back.  And as she maneuvered down the field, the sweeper came over to assist and stop Abby.  But Abby popped through and found herself 1 V 1 against the keeper.  She knew what to do - and she beat the keeper to give the Twisters a 2-1 lead.

With the lead and a victory just 12 minutes away, the defense rose to the occasion and shut down Stoughton and won their opening game of the Spring season, 2-1.

Next Up:  Stoughton... again!

05/03 - Sat 2:00 pm Stoughton Hot Shots Vs Twisters Away

The Twisters traveled to Stoughton to face their first game opponent.  The weather was cool and the ground was damp, but the game was on!  Both teams had some excellent scoring opportunities, but Stoughton struck first with a goal that just made it into the net.  And that would be the score at the half.

During the second half, the Twisters applied pressure numerous times, but each time Stoughton was there for the stop.  But in the 65th minute, Kirstie made a nice drive down the right side of the field and beat her defender.  She was able to turn and face the goal and took the tough angle shot.  The ball was high and as it came down, the keeper was just barely able to deflect it with her fingertips, but not enough to prevent the score!

The Twisters battled back to tie this game in the end!

Great Job Twisters!

05/11 - Sun 1:00 pm Madison 56ers White Vs Twisters Away

The Twisters traveled to Reddan and took on the 56ers on Mother's Day!  The first half saw the 56ers attack and attack and attack!  They were able to put one past Nicole for a 1-0 half time lead.  At half time, Jessie Farrar volunteered to play goal with a similar result - a 56er goal to take a 2-0 lead.  This just was not the girl's day as they struggled to get anything going offensively.  Molly hit the post late in the second half, but the score remained 2-0 in favor of the 56ers.  Then with less than a minute remaining, Molly was driving the left side of the penalty area when she was tripped up, setting up a Monroe PK.  Molly gained her composure and blasted the ball past the 56er keeper to make the final score 2-1.

05/17 - Sat 2:00 pm MYSC Vs Twisters Home

Time for a little home field soccer!  The Twisters took on MYSC at Honey Creek field and brought their "A" game!  Chelsea Haffele was on fire, notching a hatrick in the teams 3-1 victory.  With MYSC having the wind the first half, the girls played excellent defense and kept the score 0-0 at the half.  The second half saw Elicia Frye take the goal (Thanks Elicia!) and with the wind at their back, the Twisters pounded the team from Madison.  Nicole had a nice free kick that Chelsea blasted into the goal.  Then Nicole had another pass to Chelsea how celebrated her birthday with a second goal!  Then, to add the ice cream to her birthday cake, she scored again in the Twisters 3-1 victory!  Way to go Twisters.

05/18 - Sun 1:00 pm 56ers Vs Twisters Home

After their hard-fought win the previous day, the Twisters were struggling to in this one early.  When it was finally over, the 56ers had put 4 on the board to the Twisters lone goal (scored by Nicole Thurik).  That bring the team's record to 2 wins, 2 losses and 1 tie.

05/31 - Sat 11:00 am Mt. Horeb Vs Twisters Home

Welcome to another windy home game at Honey Creek!  The girls would be play the Firecrackers from Mt. Horeb.  Unfortunately, they had to go into the wind the first half, which would be an advantage for Mt Horeb.  The first half ended with the Twisters down 3-1, the lone Twister goal scored by Nicole Thurik!  Way to be there Nicole!

The second half gave the Twisters the wind at their backs, and the fun began.  More details will follow, but the Twisters tied the game at 3-3 with two goals in the second half.  Then with just one minute remaining, Mt Horeb scored what looked to be the game winning goal, 4-3.

But on the kick-off, the Twisters were determined to get one more scoring opportunity.  And with seconds left in the game, the tying goal found the back of the net!  This was an exciting roller coaster game, with the final 4-4 result well earned.  Twister Goal scorers were Chelsea, Molly and Kaitlin, but the entire team contributed to this victory.  Audrey, Ellie, Lily and Alyssa were outstanding in the back.  Our mid fielders held their own, and once again, Kirstie showed how she is developing into an outstanding right winger with beautiful crosses.

Great Job Ladies!
