ACL Prevention for Female Athletes: Player & Parent Presentation
Date:
Thursday January 7, 2010
Time: 6:00PM-7:00PM
Location: Minnetonka High School in the Forum
Fee: NO FEE

No pre-registration required for presentation. Testing requires registration, details below.

ACL Injuries amongst Tonka United’s female athletes are a growing concern. Research has established that 1 in every 100 high school participants will experience an ACL injury, and of those injuries 70% are non-contact injuries. Females are at a 4-6 times higher incidence of ACL tears than males. Specifically, female soccer players are 2.4 times more likely to experience an ACL tear than other female athletes.

Tonka United has invited O.S.R to present to our U13-U19 female athletes and parents on Thursday January 7, 2010. O.S.R Physical Therapy in Chanhassen specializes in Orthopedic and Sport Rehabilitation.

ACL Testing (for Female Athletes only)
Date: Thursdays January 14, 21, 28 February 4 & 11 2010
Times Available: 5:00PM-5:30PM or 5:45PM-6:15PM
Location: Tonka Dome
Fee: $10.00 Payable to O.S.R

Testing will take 30 minutes. O.S.R will do a separate analysis of all girls going through the testing and supply detailed feedback to the athlete, coaches and parents.

To register please email Tanya@tonkaunited.org to schedule your 30 minute ACL test.

ACL Testing Plan:

  • Station 1 will be a video analysis that we set up filming each girl on how they jump/land/cut. This provides O.S.R with information on propreoception, body awareness and control.

Station 2 will be a strength assessment of quadriceps to hamstrings ratio. Measuring the strength difference between these two muscle groups. Research shows that a quad:hamstring of less than 80% is at risk. O.S.R may do a single hop test and triple hop test if time allows to measure the difference in each leg.

  • Station 3 will be a measuring station. Measure each girls' height/weight, Q-angle, pelvic width, hamstring flexibility. Rely zero in on the Q-angle; this is the angle of the femur (thigh bone) and tibia (shin bone). If the Q-angle is greater than 15 degrees, the athlete is considered to be at risk.
