What is MYSC?
MYSC is pleased to announce that on Feb. 24, 2004 the general membership of the North Valley Youth Soccer League voted to approve the Milpitas Youth Soccer Club as an affiliated recreational club. For competitive opportunities, please contact the MYSC Comp Coaching Coordinator BJ Navarro at navarro_4@sbcglobal.net or 408-263-2491.
Why CYSA?
The California Youth Soccer Association, by design, has great infrastructure to support development of a soccer program. First of all, its great for the kids. We must remember that soccer is and always will be about fun. But not everyone's definition of fun is the same. For some fun is just about playing. For others, the game isn't fun unless its competitive, and the teams are reasonably evenly matched. CYSA serves both, as they have three primary playing levels recreational (class 4, about 80% of all CYSA participants play rec), advanced (class 3, competitive, about 15% of the participants), and select (class 1, more competitive, about 5% of participants). We believe this structure help facilitate having kids of like ability playing each other. As many have seen in rec-only programs, highly skilled players can dominate the games, leaving limited action and opportunity for development of the beginning and lesser skilled players. The other problem address is variety of competition, which is especially important with the older age divisions. CYSA, being a large organization, has many teams in neigboring communities, including Berryessa, Alum Rock, Mount Hamilton, and Fremont, and therefore has more options of teams to play.
Coaches and Referees
CYSA has great infrastructure for training of coaches and referees. Coaches have opportunities for 7 levels of training with associated licensing. Similarly, referees have 9 levels of training with associated grades, with grade 11 being an associate referee who is qualified to referee younger children in small-sided games, and progressing all the way to a grade 3 national referee, who is qualified to referee professional games. Check out our Referee Information section for the next referee training class offered in our area.
Adult Volunteers Time Is Precious
CYSA is not only good for the players, coaches, and referees, it is also good for the organization's administrators. In order for a youth soccer program function, it needs the adult volunteers to promote registrations, coordinate with city and school officials to reserve practice and game fields, arrange for the purchase of equipment and uniforms, and the like. Although most of the work is done at the local level, CYSA publishes a Team Manual as a guide for all coaches, referees, and administrators. In addition there is much information available online at the CYSA North and CYSA District 2 websites.
Good For Business Too?
CYSA offers tournament opportunities throughout the year. Since CYSA membership number approximately 220,000 in northern California alone, teams from outside the local area often participate. For a tournament that is held on a weekend, this can provide an economic boost to the community, as teams and their families eat, shop, and lodge in Milpitas. The volunteers of MYSC are really enthused about the opportunity that CYSA soccer brings to the children of Milpitas. MYSC has applied for field permits on behalf of the member teams for Milpitas practice and game field facilities.
