Dana Beckman has signed a letter of intent to attend Lyon College in Batesville, AR.  Dana will be playing volleyball and softball for the Lyon College Pipers.

Megan Wingate has signed a letter of intent to attend Doane College in Crete, Nebraska.   Megan will be playing softball for the Doane College Tigers.

Bartlett Eliminates Lady Trojans From District Tournament

The Millington Lady Trojans fell to Bartlett Thursday 12 to 10 in extra innings to end their season with a record of 22 and 10. Millington fell behind 6 to 1, but battled back with a 5 run 5th inning to take an 8 to 6 lead. Heidi Molder and Jana Mergel had key hits in the inning to put the Lady Trojans up. Bartlett twice tied the score with 2 runs in the 6th and a run in the 7th. The Lady Panthers then broke loose for 5 hits and 3 runs in the top of the 8th inning and held Millington to 1 run in the bottom of the inning to advance to today’s final with Bolton. Mergel banged out 3 hits including 2 doubles to pace the Lady Trojans.
 
Thursday’s defeat ended the careers of seniors Dana Beckmann, Melissa McGovern, Jana Mergel, Kasey Sands, Tyeisha Sanders, Amanda Vaughn and Megan Wingate. McGovern finishes with a .320 career batting average, 124 hits and 91 RBI. Mergel had an outstanding senior season at the plate and ends her career with an average of .305. Wingate also is a career 300 hitter (.309) and is a leader in many career-pitching categories: wins 46, innings pitched 447, strike outs 519, and ERA 2.99.

Millington Drops Tournament Game To Bolton 8 to 3

The Millington Lady Trojans committed 5 costly errors Tuesday in their battle with the Lady Wildcats of Bolton. Twice the Lady Trojans came back to tie the score, but it was a 4 run 5th inning by Bolton that proved the difference in the game. Melissa McGovern tripled with 2 outs in the top of the 5th inning to drive in 2 runs and knot the score at 3, but Bolton responded to put the game away in the bottom of the inning thanks to 3 hits and 3 Millington errors.


The Lady Trojans are still alive in post season play and will face Bartlett Thursday 6:00 pm at Bolton High School.

Wingate Tosses 2 Hit Shutout as Lady Trojans Beat Bartlett

Millington senior pitcher Megan Wingate yielded only 2 hits and struck out 11 in a 3 to 0 victory over Bartlett in the district 14AAA tournament at Bolton Monday. Jenna Crain broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the 6th inning with a single to left to score Melissa McGovern who singled to lead off the frame. Heidi Molder followed McGovern with a single to place runners on first and second. Kasey Sand’s sacrifice bunt moved the runners to second and third before Crain delivered. Pinch hitter April Lewis also singled in the inning to plate Molder and Janna Mergel ended the scoring with a RBI single of her own. Danna Beckmann’s shoestring catch with a runner on third base ended the top of the 6th inning and prevented Bartlett from taking the lead.


Millington will play Bolton in the tournament’s winners bracket final today at 5:30 at Bolton.

The Lady Trojans will play Bartlett in the 2nd round of District 14AAA tournament at 5:30 pm at Bolton High School.

Lady Trojans Run Rule Raleigh-Egypt In Tournament Opener

   

The Millington Lady Trojans shut out Raleigh-Egypt 15-0 Thursday in first round district tournament action at Bolton.  Four triples and two doubles in an 8 run 4th inning sealed the deal for Millington and ended the game early because of the run rule.  Jenna Crain and Megan Wingate paced the Lady Trojans with 3 base hits each. Maria Powell and Jana Mergel had 2-hit games and Wingate struck out 11 of the 12 batters she faced to record her 20th win of the season.

Millington will play the winner of Bartlett and Craigmont Monday at 5:30 at Bolton.

Millington Drills Cordova 13 to 2

The Lady Trojans closed out the regular season Wednesday with a 13 to 2 district victory over Cordova. Megan Wingate picked up her 19th win of the season and also had a big night at the plate with 2 singles, a triple and 4 RBI. Jana Mergel also had a 3 hit night and scored 4 runs for the Millington squad. The Lady Trojans banged out 16 hits to finish the regular season with a 20-8 record. 

Millington is scheduled to begin district tournament play today against Raleigh-Egypt with game time at 4:30 pm at Bolton High School.

Millington shut out Fayette Academy 7 to 0 Tuesday at Biloxi field on senior night. Pitcher Megan Wingate earned her 18th win of the season and Melissa McGovern belted her second homerun to lead the Lady Trojans.  Leadoff hitter Elizabeth Findley slapped 3 singles and Jana Mergel and Wingate each had 2 hits for Millington.  

One district game remains for the Millington squad at Cordova today. Game time is 6:00.

Lady Trojans Celebrate Senior Night

The Lady Trojans honored 7 Seniors with Senior Night festivities after the Fayette Academy game. Millington Softball bid farewell to seniors Dana Beckmann, Melissa McGovern, Jana Mergel, Tyeisha Sanders, Kasey Sands, Amanda Vaughn, and Megan Wingate. 

Thanks for all your contributions to MCHS Softball! We will miss you!

Jenna Crain had 4 hits and 3 RBI Monday as the Lady Trojans shut out Rosemark 10 to 0. Megan Wingate pitched 6 strong innings, yielding just 1 hit and striking out 9, to run her season’s record to 17 and 8. Elizabeth Findley, Heidi Molder and Amanda Vaughn had 2 hits each for Millington to contribute to the offensive attack.  
 
The Lady Trojans are scheduled to play Fayette Academy today at 6:00, with seniors Dana Beckmann, Melissa McGovern, Jana Mergel, Tyeisha Sanders, Kasey Sands, Amanda Vaughn and Megan Wingate being honored.  In the event of rain the senior night ceremonies will take place in the Millington Civic center banquet hall at 6:00.

Senior pitcher Megan Wingate helped her own cause at Biloxi field Thursday in the bottom of the 7th inning with a 2 out triple down the left field line. One pitch later, Wingate scored on a wild pitch and the Lady Trojans went home happy with a hard earned 3 to 2 victory over Houston. The Lady Mustangs jumped ahead of Millington with 2 unearned runs in the 4th, but the Lady Trojans knotted the score with 2 runs of their own in the 5th. Kasey Sands got Millington’s first hit of the game to lead off the 5th, followed by a walk to Jenna Crain. After 2 were out, Wingate walked to load the bases and then senior right fielder Dana Beckmann delivered a 2 out single off the arm of Houston’s third baseman to even the score at 2-2. Wingate’s late inning heroics were matched by her effectiveness in the circle. The senior lefty struck out 9 and allowed only 4 hits to improve her record to 16-7.

Millington is back in action at Collierville today for a 5:00 start.

Lady Trojans Fall To Bolton 9 to 3

The Millington Lady Trojans were out hit 11 to 3 Wednesday at Biloxi field and came away with a 9 to 3 defeat by the Lady Wildcats of Bolton. With the loss, the Lady Trojans fall to second place in the district with one league game at Cordova remaining next Wednesday. Melissa McGovern tripled in a run and later had a double to lead Millington at the plate.
 
Millington hosts Houston today at 5:00 pm and travels to Collierville Friday at 5:00 pm.

Millington Shuts Out Bartlett 2 to 0

Senior lefthander Megan Wingate pitched a 1 hit shutout Tuesday at Freeman Park to blank Bartlett 2 to 0.  Wingate also homered in the top of the 7th to give the Lady Trojans a 2 run cushion.  Wingate lost her no-hit bid with 2 outs in the bottom of the 7th, but finished strong by coaxing a final out ground ball to second.  Kasey Sands got the Lady Trojans on the board in the 4th with a 2 out single to center that plated Heidi Molder who singled to start the inning.  

Millington is now tied for first place in district 14AAA with Bolton. Both teams have records of 9-1. The Lady Wildcats will be in town today at 4:00 PM with the regular season championship at stake.

Weekend Rain Forces Schedule Changes

Monday's game with Bolton has been postponed until Wednesday, April 22nd with a varsity only game at 4:00 pm. Wednesday's scheduled games at Collierville have been moved to Friday, April 24th with the Varsity game at 5:00 pm and JV game at 7:00 pm.

Millington Tops Harding 11-1

Senior short stop Melissa McGovern’s 3 hits and 4 RBI provided the offensive power that the Lady Trojans needed Friday in a 11 to 1 victory over Harding Academy. Amanda Vaughn also aided Millington’s cause with 3 hits and 3 runs scored.  The Lady Trojans banged out 15 hits and now have a season’s record of 15 & 6.  Senior lefty Megan Wingate struck out 6 in 5 innings of work and is now 14 & 6 on the year.Millington has a big week ahead with district games Monday at home with Bolton and at Bartlett Tuesday.  

Non league games are scheduled with Shelby County powers Collierville away Wednesday and Houston at home Thursday.

Lady Trojans Defeat Arlington

The Millington Lady Trojan softball team improved to 14-6 on the season with a 10-0 district win against Arlington Thursday at Biloxi field.  Megan Wingate pitched 5 shutout innings and struck out 7 for Millington.  Melissa McGovern and Heidi Molder had 5 hits and 5 RBI between them to lead the Lady Trojans at the plate.  

Millington will play Harding Academy Friday at home in a non-district game at 5:00 pm.

Area Rain Forces Schedule Changes

The April 13th Munford game has been cancelled and there will be no make-up date for that game. 

The April 14th District 14AAA game at Cordova has been rescheduled for Wednesday, April 29th.

Millington Sweeps Craigmont 13-3 & 17-0

The Lady Trojans were in action Thursday at Biloxi field with a district doubleheader against Craigmont.  Game 1 was taken by Millington 13-3. Elizabeth Findley had 4 RBI in the leadoff position and Jana Mergel had 3 doubles.  Millington had 15 hits for the game. Megan Wingate picked up her 12th pitching win of the season.
 
The 2nd game was won by Millington 17-0.  Freshmen pitchers April Lewis and Tori Davis combined for a 5-inning shutout.  Heidi Molder had 3 doubles and a triple to pace the Lady Trojan 20 hit assault.
 
Munford is up next for the Lady Trojans on Monday, April 13th at home 6:00 pm.

Lady Trojans Top Germantown 13-0

The Millington Lady Trojans traveled to Germantown Wednesday and came away with a 13-0 drubbing of Germantown. Megan Wingate ran her season record to 11-6, yielding just 1 hit and striking out 8 in 5 innings of work. Millington’s bats came alive with 15 hits including Heidi Molder’s 3 run homerun in the 5th inning. Wingate helped her own cause with a pair of doubles and Melissa McGovern ripped 3 hits and had 3 RBI.  Jenna Crain, Jana Mergel, Molder and Wingate each had 2 hits for Millington.

Millington will host Craigmont Thursday in a doubleheader matchup of district opponents. Game 1 is set to start at 4:00.

Lady Trojans Lose At Ripley 11-3

The Millington Lady Trojans battled back twice at Ripley Tuesday, but the Lady Tigers erupted for 7 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning to win going away 11-3. Maria Powell and Elizabeth Findley led Millington at the plate with 3 hits each.
 
Millington travels to Germantown today for a non-district game at 4:00 pm.

Millington dropped their first district game of the season Monday 8-2 to the Lady Panthers of Bartlett.  Bartlett banged out 9 hits and held the Lady Trojans to just 5 hits in the matchup of district foes.  Dana Beckmann delivered for Millington in the bottom of the 4th inning with a two-out RBI single to tie the score at 1-1, but Bartlett responded with 3 runs in the 5th inning and never trailed again in their rout of the Lady Trojans.  Jana Mergel drove in Millington’s other run with a 5th inning single to right.

Millington Blanks Cordova 15-0

The Lady Trojans jumped out to a quick lead on Cordova and coasted to a 15-0 win. Jana Mergel's two doubles sparked Millington in their rout of Cordova. Mergel had a big week at the plate for the Lady Trojans going 7 for 8 with 4 doubles and a grand slam. Megan Wingate pitched three innings of no-hit ball and improved to 10 and 4 on the season. 

The Lady Trojans have a break until Monday when they host Bartlett in a District 14AAA game at Biloxi Field.

Mergel's Grand-Slam Leads Lady Trojans Over Bolton 10-5

Millington remained unbeaten in district 14AAA play with a 10-5 victory over Bolton Tuesday night. Jana Mergel’s 5th inning blast broke a 4-4 tie and put the Lady Trojans up for good in the battle of district rivals. Mergel lead Millington with 3 hits and 5 RBI. Elizabeth Findley, Melissa McGovern, Heidi Molder and Megan Wingate each had 2 hits in the 13 hit Lady Trojan attack. Lefty Megan Wingate earned her 9th pitching win of the season for the Lady Trojans.

Millington is back in action today against Cordova at Biloxi field.

The Millington Lady Trojans improved their season record to 8-4 Monday with 10-4 victory at ECS. Kasey Sands RBI double off the left field fence in the top of the first was the key to the 3 run inning. ECS cut the lead to 4-2 with 2 runs in the 5th inning, but Melissa McGovern quickly responded with a two-run homerun to left in the top of the 6th. Heidi Molder, Jana Mergel, Megan Wingate, Sands and McGovern all had 2 hits each to pace the Lady Trojans. Left hand pitcher Megan Wingate earned her 8th victory of the season, striking out 15 in the complete game outing.  

Millington will be back in district play Tuesday at Bolton and at home Wednesday with Cordova.

Lady Trojans Rip 15 Hits in District Win At Arlington

The Millington Lady Trojans ran their season record to 7-4 in a big district win at Arlington Tuesday night.  Red-hot Heidi Molder paced the Millington squad with 3 hits, including a two run double in the 5th inning. Elizabeth Findley, Melissa McGovern, Megan Wingate and Amanda Vaughn all had 2 hits in the 13-2 victory over Arlington. Jenna Crain’s long double to left plated 2 runs in the 6th inning to round out the scoring for the Lady Trojans. Wingate struck out 9 and allowed only 2 hits in gaining her 7th win of the season.

Molder Leads Lady Trojans Past Briarcrest

Junior catcher Heidi Molder continued her hot hitting Monday against the Briarcrest Lady Saints with 3 hits and 3 RBI. Millington erupted in the 2nd inning with 10 runs to erase a 1-0 Briarcrest lead. Melissa McGovern’s 2 run single ignited the 2nd inning onslaught and the Lady Trojans held on to beat Braircrest 13-6. Kasey Sands, Jenna Crain and McGovern each had 2 hits in the 12 hit Lady Trojan attack and Megan Wingate tossed her 6th victory of the year in the circle for Millington. 

 

Millington will be back in district play this week with games Tuesday at Arlington, at home Wednesday against Cordova, and at home Thursday with Bartlett. Non-district games are Friday and Saturday in Southaven, Mississippi in the Morris Hunter Tournament.

Lady Trojans Go 2-2 in Jackson Tournament

The Millington Lady Trojans went 2-2 at the Sarah Beth Whitehead Tournament in Jackson, Tennessee March 20th and 21st. Megan Wingate pitched a 1-0 shutout over Milan in the opener Friday. Millington’s lone run came in the 4th inning when Jenna Crain’s 2 out single plated Maria Powell who was pinch running for Heidi Molder. Molder singled to lead off the inning and had 2 hits in the game. Elizabeth Findley also aided the cause with 2 singles. Wingate was outstanding in the circle, allowing only 3 hits and striking out 7. Friday’s second game was against state powerhouse Brentwood, who handed Millington a 6-0 loss.  The Lady Trojans managed just 3 hits and were done in by 3 Lady Bruin homeruns.

Saturday’s final pool game was against the Chester County Lady Eagles. Wingate turned in another stellar pitching performance and Millington escaped with a 3-2 victory.  Heidi Molder got things off to a great start for the Lady Trojans with a 2 run homer in the first inning and Melissa McGovern scored the eventual winning run on a wild pitch in the top of the 4th. McGovern led off the inning with a double and advanced to third on an error.

The Lady Trojans were seeded 8th in the 20-team tournament after pool play and met Lake Cormorant in bracket play Saturday at 1:00PM. Wingate pitched 7 effective innings against the Mississippi squad but suffered the tough luck loss 2-0.  Molder and Crain led the Lady Trojans with 2 hits each but Millington managed no runs and was eliminated from the tournament.

Former Lady Trojan, Kasey Bomar, Receives Honor

Kasey Bomar was selected American Southwest Conference East Division "Hitter of the Week".  Bomar was named the Hitter of the Week after batting .500 for the week, with seven hits in four games. Kasey went 7-for-14 with a double and an RBI over a 3-1 stretch for the Mississippi College Lady Choctaws.

Millington Loses at Briarcrest

The Lady Trojans managed just 4 hits Tuesday in a 4-1 loss to the Lady Saints of Briarcrest. Briarcrest scored a pair of runs in both the second and third innings to drop the Lady Trojans' season record to 3-2. Melissa McGovern starred at the plate for the Lady Trojans with 2 hits and Megan Wingate drove in the lone Millington run in the top of the 4th inning, plating Jenna Crain, who singled earlier in the frame.  Wingate suffered her second loss of the season in the circle for the Lady Trojans.  

Millington plays Friday and Saturday in Jackson, Tennessee in the Sarah Beth Whitehead Memorial Tournament.

Lady Trojans Fall to Munford 8-2

It was mistakes and missed opportunities that cost the Lady Trojans in a battle with area rival Munford Monday night. Stranding nine runners and committing eight errors proved to be the difference in an 8-2 loss to the Lady Cougars.

Megan Wingate suffered her first loss of the year, allowing eight hits, walking one while striking out eight. Heidi Molder was the hitting star for Millington, pounding 3 doubles and driving in a run.  Jenna Crain banged out 2 hits and drove in the first Millington run in the 3rd inning.  Millington fell to 3-1 on the year with the loss to Munford.   

Briarcrest is next up for the Lady Trojans.  Game times are 4:30 JV and 6:00 varsity Tuesday at Biloxi field.
