PONY Challenge 2017

The 2017 PONY Challenge

is being rescheduled for July 3rd & 4th

 All teams must re re-commit  

All sites must re-commit 

Look for a email notice by June 1st 


 PONY Challenge rules that apply only to this event (tournament)
Get a timer if you do not have one.   (Coach as if the game will last 5 innings) 
PONY is the default rule book. 
The MGSL L/S superseeds the PONY rule book. 
The clock starts with the conclusion of ground rules.

Game time 1:20 (no new inning) drop DEAD at 1:30.
If your game is stopped by the drop dead time of 1:30  - This means when the timer goes off at 1:30, live action continues until completed.   The game is over.  To be very specific -  if the pitchers hands come together and the timers goes off, play the result of the pitch.
Report the score - Text scores to 716-864-7744.  Provide the age division as part of the score.  (If your game is ended as a result of the drop dead time please note that).
Break ties only if the time has not expired (inside 1:20), ITB 8th inning
Next game time is 1:45 from the start of your game.  Please clear the bench area (unless you are staying) immediately following the hand shake.
Mercy rule is 10 after 5 innings
Infield warm ups - first inning - 5 pitches plus infield ball
                             remainder of game - three pitches, NO infield balls
Hitting sticks, soft toss of any sort, is prohibited once the game begins
New chalk - some facilities will offer a chalk after two games, others will get one chalk for the day.
Umpire fee is $38 per team (two man)
Umpire fee is $23 per team with one umpire ($46 for the game) (10U)
Game balls - The MGSL will supply one new ball per team for the day
A $100 fine will be accessed for any "No Shows".

2017 Metro Girls Softball Insurance Information -


2017 Metro Girls Softball Insurance Information -

For those returning teams, or new teams considering joining us in 2017, Metro Girls Softball is offering team insurance for the 2017 season. This insurance will be effective January 1, 2017 through December 31, 2017. The cost will be $150, per team. Teams planning to play in Metro Girls Softball in 2017 will be need to be insured in accordance with the policy limits defined in this 2017 insurance plan. The coverages are as follows:

$3,000,000 General liability (each occurence)

$ 1,000,000 Personal Injury (each occurence)

$5,000 medical expense (any one person)

$4,000,000 general aggregate

$100,000 Excess Accident Medical ($100 deductible)

If your team needs insurance, Metro Girls will make that purchase for your team in aggregate with all teams submitting payment of $150 by December 15, 2016. Those submitting payment after December 15 will be covered as soon as we can complete the sanction process and insure the teams. In those few cases we may not have coverage for your team by January 1, 2017.

Payments must be received at Metro Girls Softball, 45 Curley Drive, Orchard Park, NY 14127 Checks should clearly state which team is being insured (ie: "Ballerina's 14U (anytown, NY)") & coaches name and address must be included.

Checks should be endorsed to: Metro Girls Softball with a notation on the check of "2017 Softball Insurance"

The average estimated cost to play in the MGSL is $1230.00 per team
League fee - $295.00
Escrow    - $200.00(refundable if not used)
Insurance - $150.00 (you can purchase your own)
Umpires    - $585.00 (13 @ $45, 10U is One man @$364.00)

Independent teams are welcome in the MGSL. For a copy of the eligibility rules click on HANDOUTS and go to Boundaries. Take note of the "home area" and the out of area player count.

The "out of area" player count was increased as of 1/10/2010

ANY TEAM may join the MGSL. Those teams unable to meet "Home Area" requirement will pay an additional $100.00.
