Metcalfe Skating Club: Programs

 

KinderSkate: Preschool Learn-to-Skate program for skaters 3-5 years old. This program teaches the beginning basics of skating. There is a focus on play which is geared to the preschool-age developmental level.   

CanSkate: Learn-to-Skate for skaters of all ages and levels. Appropriate for preschoolers who have some skating experience, or for children 5 years of age and older who have no skating experience. This program uses teaching aids to create a fun and interactive learning experience.   

AdultSkate: Covers all of the CanSkate skills. It also allows individual adults to choose the specific skills that they want to learn. Participants are also eligible to skate during StarSkate sessions once they have completed the required badges or tests.   

Junior StarSkate: Learn-to-Figure-Skate for skaters who have completed Stage 3 of the CanSkate program and wish to continue in the sport of figure skating. This program covers freestyle, ice dance, skating skills, and stroking. Group stroking lessons areprovided on Mondays. All other lessons can be booked by contacting the coaches directly.   

Senior StarSkate: This program is for skaters in the StarSkate program who are working on their prelim-inary freeskate tests or higher. Lessons can be booked by contacting the coaches directly.   

Open StarSkate: Ice time is open to StarSkaters of all levels and ages, including adult StarSkaters.   

PowerSkate: Geared to skaters who have played hockey/ringette and have basic forward and back-ward skating skills. The participant must be able to skate the length of the rink using alternate strides and be able to stop, on command, without use of the boards. To ensure safety, participants must wear full hockey/ringette equipment that is CSA approved.
