Metcalfe Skating Club: Skate Canada News
Even though the ISU World Figure Skating Championships are taking place in Los Angeles, we still want you to feel like its close – so we have some exciting new web initiatives we wanted to tell you about. We have moved many of our in-venue favourites to our website and even added a few new surprises!
Leading the way is a downloadable version of the Daily Spin, the in-venue publication that is filled with information and anecdotes on the events. You’ll be privy to backstage exclusives and photos which will keep you up-to-date on off-ice activities and defining moments. The popular blog, written by CBC Bold’s commentator PJ Kwong, Presented by Artistry, will bring PJ’s unique perspective to the event as she watches along with you. To read the daily Artistry on Ice blog, click the link on the www.skatecanada.ca homepage.
Existing favourites are joined by the new Scoring series. This pilot project, released in four parts over the last 10 days, provides a crash course in the ISU Judging System. Check out Scoring 101, 102, 103 and released today, 104, then print off the new Skate Canada Scoring Sheets to have some extra fun while you watch all your favourite skaters in LA. If you need some help with the scoring sheets, take a look in our Scoring Skate Bag – which includes some extra support on how to figure out base scores of elements, what elements to look for and how you can assign your opinion of the quality of each element – are you up for it!?
If you can’t scoot down to Los Angeles, catch all the action live on CBC, Bold and Radio-Canada, or following the skating online at http://www.cbc.ca/sports/figureskating/
