Welcome to the Meriden A's webpage

Home of the Meriden A's. The A's are an adult baseball team that has been together since 1997. Meriden has won 5 NABA League titles and have won 7 NABA league Championships. In 2001 the A's were the National Runner-up.

*2008 NABA Season*
The A's ended the year 15-5. Making it to the semi-finals of the state championship before falling to the Steamers. The A's were led by the arm of Ricky Marerro and the bats of Mike Townsend and Alex Rivera.

*2007 National Championship*
The A's will be participating in the NABA National Championship in Phoenix Arizona on October 4th-7th. For updated results go to www.dugout.org.

*2007 NABA Season*
The Meriden A's ended the season 12-8. The offense was lead by Mike Townsend, Ricky Marrero, Gary Duhamel, Justin Abrams, Scott Woronick and Willie Rios. The Pitching was led by Ricky Marrero (8 wins) and Oz Ramos.

*2007 NABA Playoff's*
Quarter Finals: Meriden beat Pj's Construction 11-3 behind the Pitching of Ricky Marrero. Rob Cassella got Meriden on the board in the 1st inning with an RBI double. In the 4th inning Richie Cassella hit a 3 run homer to secure the victory. Kelvin Ayala also got a big 2 out bases clearing single. Marrero got 3 hits and Oz Ramos was 2 for 3. Next week the A's will play The Bridgeport All-Stars in a semi final game at Ceppa Field on Sunday August 12, 2007 at 10am. The Championship Game will be held at Quigley Field in West Haven on Sunday August 19, 2007 at 5pm.

Semi-finals: Meriden lost to the defending NABA Champions Bridgeport All-Stars 3-2 in 12 innings to end their season. Ricky Marrero went 8 1/3 innings and only gave up 1 earned run. Rob Cassella and Kelvin Ayala got the only RBI's on the day. Rob Cassella was the hard luck loser giving up an unearned run in 3 1/3 innings. The A's ended the year with a 13-9 record. 5 of those loses were to the All-Stars.


*2006 NABA*

The Meriden A's ended the season combining with the Bridgeport All-Stars and won pool A at the 2006 NABA National Championships. We went 5-2 and lost to the eventually National Champions Sky Harbor Casino in the semi finals.

On Memorial Day weekend a couple Meriden A's players captured the 2007 Atlantic City Tournament with the Bridgeport All-Stars. Ricky Marerro got tournament MVP honors.

2006 Hall of Fame Classic

The Meriden A’s played in the 2006 Hall of Fame Classic in Cooperstown during the 4th of July weekend. This wooden bat Tournament had 22 teams participating from New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Massachusetts and Virginia. Highlights:

Meriden was down 3-0 after the 3rd inning but bounced back when Jim Tufts got hit by a pitch and was driving home by Ricky Marerro. Marrero scored on an infield single by Oz Ramos. Then in the 4th inning Meriden tied it when Carlos Doe walked and got into scoring position on a hit by Todd DaCunha and scored on a fielders choice by Mike Townsend. In the 5th Marrero and Rich Cassella hit solo homeruns to put the Meriden squad up for good. Marerro had 4 hits and Dan Kennedy went the distance for the win.

Highlights:

Ricky Marrero homered to leadoff the game and then homered again in the 3rd. Rich Cassella and Kelvin Ayala also homered. Casella had 3 hits on the day with 3 rbi’s. Dan Livingston went a complete game for the victory.

Highlights: The Rangers were the defending Champions. We gave them their only loss in last years Hall of Fame Classic. Ricky Marerro was dominant and the Meriden team played flawless defense. Losing 1-0 going into the bottom of the 8th with no outs, Paul Cubeta got on, on an error and was pinched ran for by Dan Kennedy. Mike Townsend then singled. Both runners advanced on a pass ball and scored on Carlos Doe's single to right field. Marrero got the last 3 outs and Meriden clinched pool “C”.

Highlights:

Meriden was the #1 seed and the Rangers were the wild card and 4th seed. Losing 1-0 in the 5inning, Ricky Marerro hit his 4th homerun of the tournament to put Meriden up 2-1. The Ranger scored 2 runs to take a 3-2 lead in the top of the 6th. In the 7th Meriden scored 4 runs on singles by Carlos Doe, Willie Rios set up Jim Tufts rbi single. Marrero doubled on the next pitched and scored on a one out 2 rbi single by Oz Ramos to put the Meriden team up by a score of 6-3. The Rangers added a run in the 8th and held Meriden hitless in the bottom half of the frame. With the score 6-4 the Rangers score 3 unearned runs on a 2 out error by the Meriden 3rd baseman to give the Rangers a 7-6 lead going into the bottom of the 9th. In the bottom of the 9th with Meriden losing by a run, Rios started things with a walk. After a pop up to the short stop by Jim Tuft, Marrero again kept things going with a single. With runners on 1st and 2nd Ramos flew out to left field for the second out. With 2 outs and runners on 1st and 2nd Rob Cassella singled home Rios to set up pinch hitter Dan Kennedy who grinded out a walk to load the bases and bring up the #5 hitter Paul Cubeta. Cubeta worked the count full and ripped the next pitch over the shortstop’s head for the walk off.

Highlights:

Scoreless in the top of the 3rd and 2 outs the Meriden right fielder drops a routine flyball. The Knight’s next 3 hitters got 2 hits and a walk to score a run and still have the bases loaded. The next hitter Glenn Hoffman lined a ball down the left field line that barely got over the glove of the left fielder, to clear the bases. That’s all that the knight ace Trevor Sullivan would need for the win. Rob Cassella, Willie Rios and Todd DaCunha had 2 hits a piece in the Championship game.
