President’s Message - December 13, 2009
Hello baseball parents and players! My name is Dave Verrone and I am the new president of Mendon Junior Baseball. I have spent the last two years as Vice President, Registrar and Opening Day coordinator and have enjoyed every minute of it! I look forward to a great season in 2010!
You may or may not be aware that MJB is run by a board of directors. There are currently 12 members on this board (see below). Our job is to work together to make decisions on behalf of the parents that benefit our children. The most important part of my job is to facilitate discussions and listen to board members, parents and our players. I will always make myself available to parents that have questions, comments and ideas so please feel free to contact me directly!
There are currently a number of positions open (see below) including concession coordinator and umpire coordinator. We are always looking to add good people to our board. Please let me know if you are interesed in any of these positions.
All the best,
Dave

Please remember that this is a program run entirely by volunteers and it is my expectation that all of us will help to the degree we are able in some way. We will need assistance in concessions, with field maintenance, with emptying trash daily to avoid litter and discourage unwanted pests/animals, coaches need scorekeepers and a team parent to coordinate the teams concession obligations, assist with distribution of pictures, etc. You can help put lines on base paths, set up or put away pitching machines, assist the coach in a making phone calls. Want to help but not sure what you can do? Contact your head coach or a board member.
Please continue to offer your feedback, ideas and the energy to implement them. As always, feel free to contact any Board member with any questions or concerns.
The league is prepared to assist any of those who may need financial assistance. Please do not allow family finances to keep a child from participating. Those needing financial assistance, please contact Registrar Dave Verrone. All requests will be kept strictly confidential.
The league would like to thank Stefanie Kimball for taking many of the pictures which you see on our site. To see more of her work go to her website http://www.stefanielynnphotography.com/ .

2010 Registration
Registration for the 2010 Spring Baseball season opens on January 1, 2010 and will remain open until February 28, 2010. Once again we will be using our online registration site http://www.sportssignup.com/Mendon-Junior-Baseball-Online-Registration.start
The earlier people register, the more time we have to choose coaches and prepare for the season. As a way to encourage people to register early we are offering $10 off each registration submitted in January!
Change to a Grade Based “Parent’s Choice” System
Over the last few years, many parents have asked why we have used an April 30th age cut off for our divisions. The answer has always been to be consistent with Little League and many of the other leagues in our region. I have never been comfortable with that “because everyone else does it” type of answer, especially when I would see so many kids with summer birthdays that would not be able to play with their classmates. Of equal concern for me were the kids that would be forced to move up a division because of their age that were not ready to play at a higher level from a skill or ability standpoint. The result in both of these examples was to have kids that were not having fun playing baseball.
At MJB, our number one goal is for kids to have fun so this year we have made some changes that will allow you as the parent to help make that possible…
This year we are introducing what we call a Grade Based Parent’s Choice System for registration. What this means is that our divisions (starting in Single A, Double A, Triple A and Majors) will no longer use a minimum age cut off. Instead they will be aligned to school grade. The parent’s choice aspect of the program is that you as a parent now have the option of when your child should move up to the next division.
| Grade | Default Choice | Optional Choice |
| Pre K (5 by 8/31) | T-Ball | n/a |
| K | Single A | T-Ball |
| 1 | Double A | Single A |
| 2 | Double A | n/a |
| 3 | Triple A | Double A |
| 4 | Triple A | n/a |
| 5 | Majors | Triple A |
| 6* | Majors | n/a |
| 7* | Majors | n/a |
|
* Players cannot turn 13 before 5/1 or play more than two years in the Majors division. |
||
For example, if you have a 1st grader that is ready to move up to Double A, you can do that regardless of when his/her birthday is during the year. If on the other hand, you have a 5th grader that is not ready to move up to Majors, you can have him/her play another year of Triple A.
The process is simple, just go to our online registration site: http://www.sportssignup.com/Mendon-Junior-Baseball-Online-Registration.start and register as you normally would, inputting your child’s grade in the process. If the grade is K, 1, 3 or 5 you will be given a choice between two divisions. Just chose the one you want from the drop down list.
If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me via email at dverrone@gmail.com or cell 401-474-8163.
Thanks,
Dave
