Medina Swim Team: Swim Groups
Green Group is for Makos 10 & Under swimmer will consistently improve their stroke technique, try to be their best, be part of a Team Atmosphere, make friends with their teammates, enjoy swimming and they will want to come to practice.
For swimmers to begin on the Green Team they must have developed general knowledge of all 4 strokes, swim a 25 in all four strokes and be able to dive into deep water.
The Green Team is not a learn to swim program.
1. Beginning competitive swimming recommended attendance 2-3 days a week.
2. Frequent use of kickboards.
3. Entry into USA Dual Meets our teams sponsored event and USA Bronze meets.
4. Promotion to next team when skill levels, attitude toward practice and endurance is shown.
WHITE GROUP
White Group is for the Makos 9-14 swimmers.
This team is broken down into two groups.

White Team 9-11 swimmers will consistently improve their stroke technique, try their best, being a part of Team Atmosphere, make friends with their teammates, enjoy swimming and want to come to practice.

White Team 12-14 swimmers will improve their stroke technique but will be transitioning from introductory competitive swimming to more experienced competitive swimmers. These White Team swimmers will grow up in the sport of swimming, be part of a Team Atmosphere, enjoy meets, make goals and attempt to attain them, make friends with their teammates and enjoy swimming.
Level recommended attendance 3 days a week.
1. Continues emphasis on stroke development and technique through many drills
2. Introduction to serious training methods, including interval work and over distance swimming
3. Emphasis on all four strokes for all of the White swimmers
4. Swims in all USA Dual meets, and some selected USA weekend meets as well as our team sponsored event and the USA Champs they qualify for.
5. Starts and turns are practiced and improved.
White participation marks a critical time in a young swimmer's career. These youngsters have decided to make the commitment mentally, physically, and emotionally necessary to achieve. Other young swimmers find that the commitment is more than they are ready to give, and their improvement is sometimes slower. When the swimmer's age (often 11 to 13) and skills warrant promotion, the Yellow group is next.
YELLOW GROUP
Yellow Group is for Makos 11 & Older swimmers will consistently improve their stroke technique but will also be transitioning from introductory competitive swimming to more experienced swimmers. Yellow Team swimmers will grow up in the sport of swimming try their best, be part of a Team Atmosphere, enjoy meets, make goals and attempt to attain them, make friends with their teammates and enjoy swimming.
Coaches approval if under the age of 11.
Level recommended attendance 4-5 days a week.
1. Workout schedule with maintenance of stroke instruction when appropriate.
2. Distance training for the first third of a season to establish a conditioning base.
3. Will swim in USA dual meets as well as some USA weekend meets or teams sponsored event and the USA champs that they qualify for.
4. Land exercise programs are stressed.
NAVY GROUP
Navy Group gives our 14 & over swimmers that do not swim on a High School swim team a chance to improve their swimming and compete in USA meets. This group swims the entire short course season and practices 4 days a week. If these swimmers want to swim 5+ days a week the Gold group is their choice provided that the requirements of that group have been met.
Level recommended attendance 3-4 days a week.
1. Workout schedule with maintenance of stroke instruction when appropriate.
2. Distance training for the first third of a season to establish a conditioning base.
3. Will swim in USA dual meets as well as some USA weekend meets our teams sponsored event and the USA champs that they qualify for.
4. Land exercise programs are stressed.
BLUE GROUP - High School Swimmers
Blue Group gives our 14 & over swimmers that compete on a High School swim team a chance to train and prepare for their upcoming season. This group swims September 14th till November 5th and practices 5 days a week.
Level recommended attendance 4 days a week.
1. Workout schedule with maintenance of stroke instruction when appropriate.
2. Distance training to establish a conditioning base for their High School season.
3. Will swim in USA dual meets as well as some USA weekend meets.
4. Land exercise programs are stressed.
GOLD GROUP
Gold Group is for Makos 11 & Older swimmers that have goals of pursuing their swimming career as far as possible. At an early age these swimmers have made a commitment to the sport of swimming.
Swimmers must have achieved at least one 13-14 USA Swimming National "A" Time Standard. The final decision on the placement of a swimmer lies with the MRST Coaching Staff.
Commitment contract must be signed by Parent, Swimmer & Coach at a designated meeting with the coach.
1. Rigorous workout schedule with maintenance of stroke instruction when appropriate
2. Over distance training for the first third of a season to establish a conditioning base
3. Work on racing techniques
4. Swimmers in this group need to practice 4-5 sessions a week in the spring and 6-7 sessions in the summer. Extended practices & extra days may be added at the coach’s discretion.
5. Expected to swim in at least 1 USA meet a month and USA Champs. 6. May participate in other USA meets outside of Lake Erie Swimming.

8. If the swimmer is unable to meet these goals the coach will place the swimmer into the Yellow group.
Gold swimmers may go the fewer meets, but these will be large meets with a high level of competition. The coaches place emphasis on reaching a peak at the end of the season. At this level, the commitment to swimming should be such that there is not time for full participation in another sport. Gold swimmers goals are to qualify for the Central Zone Championship in the summer, Mid-States (Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, & Illinois) Quadrangular Championship in the winter, Sectionals and Junior Nationals in the spring.
