Makos Swimmers Finish in the Top 10

 

Five swimmers of the Medina Makos Swim Team finished this past Long Course Season ranked in the Top 10 of Lake Erie Swimming. Thirty-four teams in Northeast Ohio make up Lake Erie Swimming. Those swimmers in the Top 10 are:

Graham Burnell 15-16 year old boys 200 Backstroke (8th)

Samantha Petruzzi 11-12 year old girls 100 Free (8th), 200 Free (1st), 400 Free (2nd), 100 Butterfly (9th), 200 Individual Medley (6th)

Joey Reilman 11-12 year old boys 200 Free (6th), 400 Free (4th), 50 Backstroke (1st), 100 Backstroke (1st), 200 Backstroke (1st), 400 Individual Medley (5th)

Zach Reilman 10 & under boys 50 Butterfly (8th), 200 Freestyle (9th)

Arianna Soika 10 & under girls 50 Freestyle (6th), 100 Freestyle (5th), 200 Freestyle (5th), 50 Breaststroke (2nd), 100 Breaststroke (4th), 200 Individual Medley (5th)

 

Three of the swimmers also finished in the Top 10 rankings in the State of Ohio.

Best Long Course Finish Of All Time!!!


The Medina Makos ended there most successful season ever with a top 10 showing at Lake Erie’s (USA Swimming) Long Course Championships July 31 thru August 2nd. Top point getters for the Makos were Samantha Petruzzi for the girls with 40 points and Joey Reilman for the boys with 39 points. Samantha placed 1st in the 200 Freestyle, 2nd in the 400 Freestyle and 3rd in the 200 Individual medley and 100 Freestyle. Joey placed 1st in the 50, 100 & 200 Backstroke and 3rd in the 200 Freestyle. Other top 10 performances were turned in by Graham Burnell in the 200 Backstroke, Morgan Burnell in the 100 Breaststroke, Allie Lyncha  in the 50 & 100 Breaststroke, Anthony Petruzzi in the 50 ,200 Freestyle & 100 Backstroke, Zach Reilman in the 50, 100, 200 Freestyle the 50 Butterfly and the 200 Individual medley and  Arianna Soika in the 50, 100 & 200 Breaststroke. Other Makos posting personal best times were Ashley Bowles, Abby and Maddy Draiss, Tori Lyncha, Nick and Sara Reilman, Jacob Scavuzzo and Luke Valach.




2009 Silver Championships

25 Makos Swimmers Head To Silver Championships

Twenty-five swimmers from the Medina Makos Swim Team qualified and swam in Lake Erie Silver Championships, which requires a swimmer to obtain a “B” or “BB” National Time Standard in each event.  Representing the Makos were:  Lexi Agee, Morgan Burnell, Ali Carrero, Abby Draiss, Tess Fanello, Abby Kriak, Ally Lyncha, Dehvan Mixon, Lauren Muchewicz, Sara Reilman, Allison Walker, Max Chou, Mickey Doyle, Adam Goodreau, Taylor Jones, Charlie Kriak, Jake Knapp, John Hardy, Brandon Mixon,  Anthony Petruzzi, Joey Reilman, Zach Reilman, Jake Scavuzzo, Clay Williams and Kyle Winquist.  Top three finishes were posted by Morgan Burnell—1st place 50 breaststroke; Joey Reilman—1st place 200 butterfly; Kyle Winquist—3rd place 100 freestyle and 50 backstroke; and Brandon Mixon—3rd place 100 breaststroke.  Other top ten finishes were recorded by Abby Draiss, Tess Fanello, Abby Kriak, John Hardy, Taylor Jones, Jake Knapp, Charlie Kriak, Brandon Mixon, Joey Reilman, Zachary Reilman and Kyle Winquist.  All  Makos’ swimmers recorded personal best times in at least one event.




Gold Championships

Medina swimmers make a name for themselves at Gold Championships

The Medina Makos (MRST) had their best showing ever in Lake Erie’s Gold Championships prelim/finals format March 6-8th. The Makos finished 11th place overall in the age group category.  Fourteen Makos’ swimmers qualified for Lake Erie Gold Championships, which requires an athlete obtain at least one “A” time standard from the National age group motivational time standards.  Qualifying for 2009 Gold Championships were: Morgan Burnell, Tess Fanello, Abby Kriak, Samantha Petruzzi, Sara Reilman, Kristen Schubert, Arianna Soika, Carolyn Yurkoski, Graham Burnell, Brandon Mixon, Joey Reilman, Justin Ridings, Mike Schubert and Luke Valach.  Leading the way for the Makos were Arianna Soika, 41 points; Joey Reilman, 35 points; and Samantha Petruzzi, 26 points.  Several swimmers placed with top ten finishes.  Morgan Burnell, age 10, finished 4th in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:28.58. Samantha Petruzzi, age 12, placed in 6 events with a best of 3rd in the 200 freestyle and a time of 2:06.51.  Arianna Soika, age 10, placed in 6 finals with a best of 2nd place in the 50 breaststroke and a time of 37.91.  Carolyn Yurkoski, age 12, placed in 2 events with a best of 7th place in the 100 freestyle and a time of 58.36.  Joey Reilman, age 11, placed in 5 events with a best of 2nd in the 100 backstroke and a time of 1:02.76.






8 & Under Championships

The Future Couldn't Be Brighter!!!

Medina Makos sent 10 kids to the 8 & under Champs held at Youngstown State Univ. last weekend.  Outstanding performances were by:
   
    Ryan Winquist ( 8 yr. old) placed 1st in butterfly, 2nd in backstroke, and 2nd in both  the 25y freestyle and 50y freestyle.

     Amanda Winquist ( 6 yr. old) placed 1st in butterfly, 1st in freestyle, 2nd in breaststroke, and 2nd in backstroke.
 
     Tori Lyncha ( 6 yr.) placed 1st in breaststroke, 1st in backstroke, 3rd in butterfly, 3rd in freestyle.

     Olivia Muchewicz ( 8 yr.) placed 5th in 50y freestyle, 8th in 50y backstroke, 10th in 100y freestyle

     Maddy Draiss (7 yr) placed 1st in 50y breaststroke, 6th in 100y freestyle

     David Kolasinski ( 7 yr) placed 7th in the 50y back and breaststroke, 8th in 25y freestyle, 10th in backstroke

     Olivia Scavuzzo (5 yr) placed 7th in 50y backstroke


Other great performances were by Emily Miller, Lizzy Kato and Kenedy Kerr.

2009 New Year's Breakout - A Medina Success!

The Medina Makos (MRST) swim team held there first annual USA invitational swim meet on Sunday February 1st at the MCRC. The meet was a huge success with over 350 swimmers from 15 different USA swim teams attending, as well as over 800 spectators, visiting the facility. The MCRC and the Makos were definitely in the spotlight for the day and did not disappoint with 34 first place finishers.  Six first place finishes came from relays teams:  10 & under, 11-12, & 13-14 mixed 200 medley relay teams, the 10 & Under 200 Freestyle relay and the 11-12 & 13 & Over 400 Freestyle relay teams. Multiple individual first place finishers were Shannon Cahalan 12 y/o 50 and 100 Butterfly, Tess Fanello 14y/o 100 Breaststroke, 200 Individual Medley, and 500 Freestyle, Julia Kato 15 y/o 100 Backstroke and Butterfly, Abby Kriak 14 y/o 100 Butterfly, 100 and 200 Backstroke, Charlie Kriak 9 y/o 50 Freestyle and Backstroke, Joey Reilman 11 y/o 100 butterfly, 50 and 100 Breaststroke, and Carolyn Yurkowski 12 y/o 50 and 100 Breaststroke.
