  History of Medford Recreational Hockey
The Medford Recreational Hockey association was formed on May 6, 1975 as a result of a planned merger of three youth hockey programs that serviced Medford prior to 1975. The programs were Medford Youth Hockey, West Medford-Hillside Youth Hockey, and North Medford Youth Hockey.
Medford Recreational hockey's early accomplishments began locally with several District #10 championships and League Championships. In 1980, just 5 years after the merger, the Medford Pee Wee A's captured Medford's first Massachusetts state Championship. In 1981 after capturing two more State Championships, Medford recreational hockey was awarded the 1981 Program of the year by Massachusetts Hockey.
Through the years many Medford players have gone on to play high School, college, junior, and professional hockey 1992 Medford Rec. graduates Joe Sacco, and Keith Tkachuk were selected to participate in the 1992 Winter Olympics for Team USA. Just two years later,at the 1994 winter Olympics Dave Sacco was the leading scorer for Team USA during the Olympic Games most recently Shawn Bates has been a steady contributor to the Boston Bruins
