The DCR LoConte Rink in Medford selected to host a "Boston Bruins Youth Hockey Clinic on Thursday February 18th at 6:00 PM (Mites, Squirts & Girls 10-U) and at 7:00 PM (PeeWees, Bantams & Girls 14U).....
MEDFORD, MA - The DCR LoConte Rink in Medford has been selected as only one of two rinks (DCR Bajko Rink-Hyde Park) to host a Boston Bruins Youth Hockey Clinic during the February School Vacation on Thursday Night February 18th at 6:00 PM (Mites, Squirts & Girls U10) and at 7:00 PM (PeeWees, Bantams & Girls U14). THIS IS NOT A SKATING AND SKILLS TYPE CLINIC. This clinic is designed to teach some basic drills on ice in a short period of time by the Boston Bruins Alumni. The DCR is asking we open the skate shop so they are also expecting some new skaters. There is no pre-registration and no charge to attend to plan on attending.

Pro Ambitions has been contracted to provide graders for the upcoming 20010-11 Travel Team Tryouts the weeks of March 8-11th and March 15-17 at the DCR LoConte Rink in Medford. More details to follow...
** 2010 Medford Figure Skating Spring Ice Show~Recital in March !! "Returning home to the DCR LoConte Rink in Medford". The 2010 Ice Show will be held on Saturday March 20th at 4:00 PM at the LoConte Rink. For ticket information call Roberta Bailey at 781-395-2155.
The 2009-10 Team & Player Picture Sessions Are Completed... A Makeup Session for Individual Pictures is Planned for Saturday February 27th from 12:00 Noon to 1:30 PM at the LoConte Rink, Medford.

2nd "FREE" Goalie Clinic held on Tuesday January 19th at LoConte; Medford's own Mike Morrison - Goalie - Florida Everblades/Albany AHL makes surprise visit and was a guest instructor:
Medford, MA - - The 2nd "Free" Goalie Clinic of the 2009-10 season was held on Tuesday January 19th at the LoConte Rink. Kevin Morrison of Bertagna Goaltending Schools and Phil Wallace of Hockeyworks conducted the clinic that is open to all Medford Youth Hockey & Girl's Hockey goalies as well as any In-House goalie or interested players. Former NHL goalie and Medford Youth Hockey player Mike Morrison was a surprise visitor and assisted "Dad" Kevin Morrison during the goalie clinic. Mike was home during the AHL All Star Break. After the clinic Mike took pictures with the goalies and that picture will be posted at the rink.

Medford, MA - The 24th Annual Medford Thanksgiving Holiday "Youth Hockey Tourney" is in the books and after the wekk long tournament held at the LoConte and Flynn Rinks in Medford, here are the CHAMPIONS !!

Time to step up to the plate and help out. Medford Youth Hockey is looking for a few more "Volunteer Parents" to staff the LoConte Rink Concession Stand February & March !! We also need some volunteer parents to assist during the upcoming travel team tryouts schedule for March !!
It's our largest fundariser and we are planning to expand the Concession Stand hours of operation at the LoConte Rink. To do that we need volunteer parents to help staff the concession stand. The shifts are usually 2-3 hours and most shift have two (2) volunteers. All of the Board of Directors volunteer shifts at the concession stand. The Concession Stand is open all 7-days, at night during the week and all day on Saturday and Sunday. "BECOME ACTIVE" and help out. 2009-10 Travel Team On-Ice "Free Team Skills Clinics" begin on Tuesdays at 7:00 PM !!
Medford, MA -- Medford YH Travel Team "TEAM SKILLS CLINIC" has arrived. Beginning Tue. Dec. 8th at 7:00 PM and running the rest of the season, "FREE TEAM SKILLS CLINIC" will take place for all Medford YH Travel Teams on a rotating basis. Hockey Works from Revere will be the instructors at the Team Skills Clinics and Kevin Morrison of Bertagna Goaltending Clinics will be the lead instructor at the goalie clinics.

Medford's Keith Tkachuk Re-Signs with the NHL St. Louis Blues for the 2009-10 Season !!
ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI -- Former Medford Youth Hockey, Malden Catholic and Boston University hockey player Keith Tkachuk has re-signed to play for the St. Louis Blues for the upcoming 2009-10 Season.
Keith scored 25-goals last season and now has a career 525-goals in the NHL and over 1000 points. The 1-year contract will give Keith an opportunity to take one season at a time as he closes in on several NHL records for American born players and for several St. Louis Blues records. Our best wishes to Keith and his family.
Medford's Joe Sacco Named Head Coach of the NHL Colorado Avalanche !!
DENVER, COLORADO -- Former Medford Youth Hockey, Medford High School and Boston University hockey player Joe Sacco was named the "Head Coach" of the Colorado Avalanche for the upcoming 2009-10 season.
As you all know, Joe Sacco along with Keith Tkachuk, brother Dave Sacco, Shawn Bates and Mike Morrison have taken their hockey careers from playing Medford Youth Hockey at the LoConte Rink to the National Hockey League.
After a 14-year NHL career. Joe entered the coaching ranks in the AHL first in Lowell for the Lock Monsters and the past two seasons in Lake Erie, all Colorado Avalanche affiliate teams.
Always taking "Mustand Hockey Pride" wherever he played or coached, we take the same pride in him being the pride of Medford Youth Hockey. Our congratulations and best wishes.

Medford Figure Skating Offering 7-Week Learn to Ice Skate Program Beginning Saturday January 16th:
Medford Figure Skating is offering a 7-week Learn to Ice Skate Program for new skaters on Saturdays at 9:00 AM at the LoConte Rink. The cost for the 7-week program is $100.00 per skater. Anyone interested in joining can contact Coordinator Roberta Bailey direct at 781-395-2155.
DCR (Dept. of Conservation & Recreation) Increases Ice Fee for 2009-10:
We heard rumors all last season that the Commonwealth of Massachusetts was going to raise the cost of ice rental fees from the $160.00 /50-minute. It never happened last season, but over the Spring months, the DCR held 3-public meetings to discuss fee hikes for just about everything and included was the raising of the ice rental fee for "Youth Hockey Program Rentals" from $160 to $175 beginning in 2009-10.
Medford High School Opens New "Fitness Center" !!!
Medford High School recently opened it's new "Fitness Center" for improving the fitness of students in grades 6-12. Although geared for all students, the Medford Athletic Teams including Medford High Boys Hockey and Girl's Hockey will benefit greatly from the center being at the high school. The Medford Public Schools and the Medford Athletic Department has increased its focus on student athletics with a goal of improving the quality of all sports teams at Medford High School.
Medford High School Appoints "New Boys Head Hockey Coach" !!!
The Medford Athletic Department recently appointed Steve DeBenedictis as the Medford High School new Boys Varsity Head Hockey Coach for the upcoming 2009-10 season. DeBenedictis has been the Assistant Boys Hockey Coach at Catholic Conference power St. John's Prep in Danvers for the past 17-seasons. In yet another appointment to improve the quality of sports teams at Medford High School, Steve DeBenedictis brings experience and knowledge of the game of high school hockey to Medford High. Our congratulations to Steve DeBenedictis.
REMINDER: Only players and coaches assigned to the practice ice can skate. No brothers, sisters or others are allowed on the ice !!
Remember, all coaches must wear helmets, all players must be registered.

As you can see, Medford Hockey, serving the children of Medford since 1975 is expanding to accomodate more players in the youth program and in the girl's program. We have a great group of dedicated head coaches and assistant coaches. Medford Youth Hockey is skating its Youth Teams in the new Valley League 1-League 42-game league with no league games conflicts and alot of games locally in Malden and Medford. Our Girl's Teams are skating in the Middlesex Yankee Girl's League. Medford Hockey provides affordable city/town hockey in competitive leagues with convenient practices in Medford during the week at our LoConte Rink at the best prime hours.
