Medford Youth Hockey To Host A "MASS HOCKEY DAY" Free Beginner Clinic on Saturday November 7th !!
Medford, MA - Massachusetts Hockey has selected (14) rinks across Massachusetts to launch the 1st Annual MASS HOCKEY DAY free beginner's clinic. Medford Youth Hockey (DCR LoConte Rink) is one of programs and rinks selected in the Greater Boston area along with Charlestown, Cambridge and Belmont to host this 1-hour clinic. The goal is to signup atleast 30-new players per rink or 400+ new players for Massachusetts Hockey state wide in an effort to increase the number of boys & girls playing the exciting sport of youth hockey.
Here in Medford, the sign-ins begin at 11:30 AM on Saturday and the on-ice clinic begins at 12:00 Noon for 1-hour. Each boy or girl with the age of 4-9 years old that pre-registers with Massachussetts Hockey (The 1st 30 per site) will receive a free hockey stick from the Boston Bruins. Medford Youth Hockey will provide a free hockey jersey.
So pass the word onto anyone you know who is thinking of signing their kids up for youth hockey but hasn't yet. It will be a fun event.

Medford, MA - - The Medford Youth Hockey and Medford Girl's Hockey Programs will be skating a total of (14) Travel Teams for the upcoming 2009-10 season. Our In-House program had over (100) players signup and they will add a Mite-B & C Team and 4-In-House teams. We will continue our efforts to make our program the best and the most affordable for all of the players and parents. We thank you for your dedication, pride and support of the program and all of our teams.
In the Youth Program, we have roster openings in the Squirts (9&10), PeeWees (11&12) and Bantams (13&14). In the Girl's Program, we have roster openings in the U10's, U12's and U14's.
If your player is interested, please contact President Frank Zizzo at 339-221-0148. We will utilize the parity games and team practices to evaluate all additional players.
Remember, Medford YH teams play in one (1) league (Valley 42-game divisions), one (1) league Middlesex Yankee Girl's), practice at home at the DCR LoConte Rink at the best times and have a 7-month payment plan.
2009-10 Fall~Winter Programs Signups Extended !!!
Medford, MA - Signups for the Medford Youth Hockey In-House Program for the 20-Week In-House Hockey-In-House Clinic & Learn to Skate Programs for Boys & Girls Ages 4-15 and the 20-Week Figure Skating Program for Girls and Boys Ages 5-15 has been extended to allow boys and girl's playing fall soccer, fall baseball, fall football and fall cheerleading to finish out their seasons before signing up for our exciting winter programs.

Medford Thanksgiving Holiday Tournament Looking For More Teams !!
Medford, MA - The 24th Annual Medford Thanksgiving Holiday "Youth Hockey Tourney" is still looking for interested A & B travel teams from Mites, Squirts and PeeWees to A-teams in Girl's 10, 12 & 14. The Weeklong tornament begins on Sunday November 22nd and ends on Sunday November 29th. All games are at the DCR LoConte Rink and Flynn Rinks in Medford. The cost is $750.00 per team. Volunteer Parents Needed to Help Staff The LoConte Rink Concession Stand !!
It's our largest fundariser and we are planning to expand the Concession Stand hours of operation at the LoConte Rink. To do that we need volunteer parents to help staff the concession stand. The shifts are usually 2-3 hours and most shift have two (2) volunteers. All of the Board of Directors volunteer shifts at the concession stand. The Concession Stand is open all 7-days, at night during the week and all day on Saturday and Sunday. "BECOME ACTIVE" and help out. 2009-10 Travel Team On-Ice "Free Player Skills Clinics" on Tuesdays at 7:00 PM for 5-Weeks !!
Medford, MA -- Medford YH Travel Team "PLAYER SKILLS CLINIC" has arrived. At the "Open Meeting" parents asked that we have "Player Skills" in the beginning of the season for atleast the first 5-weeks before Thanksgiving. After Thanksgiving the rotating "Team Skills" and "Goalie Clinics" are scheduled. Beginning Tue. Oct. 20th at 7:00 PM and running for 5-weeks, a "FREE PLAYER SKILLS CLINIC" will take place for all Medford YH Travel Team Players, Mite, Squirt, PeeWee & Girl's 12-Under, Girls's 10-Under at the DCR LoConte Rink, Medford. Volunteer Medford Coaches will run the Clinic.

Medford's Keith Tkachuk Re-Signs with the NHL St. Louis Blues for the 2009-10 Season !!
ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI -- Former Medford Youth Hockey, Malden Catholic and Boston University hockey player Keith Tkachuk has re-signed to play for the St. Louis Blues for the upcoming 2009-10 Season.
Keith scored 25-goals last season and now has a career 525-goals in the NHL and over 1000 points. The 1-year contract will give Keith an opportunity to take one season at a time as he closes in on several NHL records for American born players and for several St. Louis Blues records. Our best wishes to Keith and his family.
Medford's Joe Sacco Named Head Coach of the NHL Colorado Avalanche !!
DENVER, COLORADO -- Former Medford Youth Hockey, Medford High School and Boston University hockey player Joe Sacco was named the "Head Coach" of the Colorado Avalanche for the upcoming 2009-10 season.
As you all know, Joe Sacco along with Keith Tkachuk, brother Dave Sacco, Shawn Bates and Mike Morrison have taken their hockey careers from playing Medford Youth Hockey at the LoConte Rink to the National Hockey League.
After a 14-year NHL career. Joe entered the coaching ranks in the AHL first in Lowell for the Lock Monsters and the past two seasons in Lake Erie, all Colorado Avalanche affiliate teams.
Always taking "Mustand Hockey Pride" wherever he played or coached, we take the same pride in him being the pride of Medford Youth Hockey. Our congratulations and best wishes.

Because of the growth in Youth Hockey in Medford several new teams were formed, namely Squirt-C, Girl's U-10A and Girl's U-14B. The Girl's Division will continue to accept signups throughout the summer to bolster their team rosters heading into the fall. As you may know, girl's can accept players from surrounding cities/towns.

Medford YH 2009-10 Travel Team Tryouts Recap:
GROWING MEDFORD YOUTH HOCKEY AND GIRL'S HOCKEY ONE YOUTH PLAYER AND ONE GIRL'S PLAYER AT A TIME !!
The Medford Youth Hockey 2009-10 Travel Team Tryouts are completed and for the 2nd year in a row over 225 players attended tryouts held recently at the DCR LoConte Rink. In addition, for the 2nd year in a row there are enough players to add another two and possibly three teams at the Youth Squirts and Girl's 10U levels.
Medford Youth Hockey contracted Pro Ambitions to provide player grading, goalie grading and on-ice management at this year's tryouts. Support for Medford Youth Hockey is growing and through the continued efforts of the Board of Directors to keep youth hockey affordable while participating in the areas top youth league (Valley League) and top girl's league (Middlesex Girl's League) will keep Medford Hockey competitive.
2009-10 Medford YH Travel Team and In-House Team or Clinic Coaching Applications Are Available:
Interested coaches, assistant coaches and instructors must submit an application form. If you haven't filled out a "Pink Application Form", contact Frank Zizzo now.
Medford Youth Hockey Travel Team Program and In-House Program are growing and having enough coaches and instructors is important.

Medford Figure Skating Recap:
Medford Figure Skating recently celebrated it's 21st season with it's annual season ending "Ice Show~Recital" on Sunday March 15th at 2:00 PM at the O'Brien Ice Rink in Woburn. A large crowd was on hand to cheer the accomplishments of the figure skaters. Efforts to grow the figure skating program will continue throughout the summer. Anyone interested in joining can contact Coordinator Roberta Bailey direct at 781-395-2155.
DCR (Dept. of Conservation & Recreation) Increases Ice Fee for 2009-10:
We heard rumors all last season that the Commonwealth of Massachusetts was going to raise the cost of ice rental fees from the $160.00 /50-minute. It never happened last season, but over the Spring months, the DCR held 3-public meetings to discuss fee hikes for just about everything and included was the raising of the ice rental fee for "Youth Hockey Program Rentals" from $160 to $175 beginning in 2009-10.
Medford High School Opens New "Fitness Center" !!!
Medford High School recently opened it's new "Fitness Center" for improving the fitness of students in grades 6-12. Although geared for all students, the Medford Athletic Teams including Medford High Boys Hockey and Girl's Hockey will benefit greatly from the center being at the high school. The Medford Public Schools and the Medford Athletic Department has increased its focus on student athletics with a goal of improving the quality of all sports teams at Medford High School.
Medford High School Appoints "New Boys Head Hockey Coach" !!!
The Medford Athletic Department recently appointed Steve DeBenedictis as the Medford High School new Boys Varsity Head Hockey Coach for the upcoming 2009-10 season. DeBenedictis has been the Assistant Boys Hockey Coach at Catholic Conference power St. John's Prep in Danvers for the past 17-seasons. In yet another appointment to improve the quality of sports teams at Medford High School, Steve DeBenedictis brings experience and knowledge of the game of high school hockey to Medford High. Our congratulations to Steve DeBenedictis.
REMINDER: Only players and coaches assigned to the practice ice can skate. No brothers, sisters or others are allowed on the ice !!
Remember, all coaches must wear helmets, all players must be registered.

Medford Youth Hockey is skating its Youth Teams in the new Valley League 1-League 42-game league with no league games conflicts and alot of games locally in Malden and Medford. Our Girl's Teams are skating in the Middlesex Yankee Girl's League. Medford Hockey provides affordable city/town hockey in competitive leagues with convenient practices in Medford during the week at our LoConte Rink at the best prime hours.
