The season came to a close at the end of Feb. and it was with some great excitement. The Lancer wrestling team came into regionals with a hard working group of kids and came out with a regional title and a 3rd place finish at state. The young kids came up huge at regionals. Freshman Jared Johnson scored some huge points for us and Jon Wiederhold battled to get a big win on the second day of regionals. Josh Ramos also got some great experience participating in regionals this year. Sophmores Zach Grulli, Mike Paulk, Eddie Kaufer, and Matt Dragon wrestled well with Zach scoring 10 big points, and Matt knocking off a number one seed. Kaufer and Paulk both placed fourth just missing qualifying for state. The Juniors saw Bob Wood get some need regional experince. Our state qualifiers were Nephi Otuafi a freshman that showed he can compete at the highest level. Next his brother Tyson Otuafi who dominated his way to the finals and settling for second. We had another second in Jeff Lobos, only a second year wrestler he made each of his opponents wrestle at his high pace and the could not keep up. The Deleon brothers led our team in the finals round with two huge wins. James pinned Kyle Sharp of Carson making it possible for our team to have a chance at the regional title. Joseph made sure he was going to get his first regional title beating Patrick Craugh also from Carson. Our last contender was Moses Katoa our heavyweight and the last match of the night He has only wrestled 2 years as well and we needed a win to win regionals. He showed the heart of a champion and dug deep to get a takedown with little time left to seal his regional championship and our teams.
State was just as exciting. We had Nephi get a win and Tyson battle injury to get the consi semis, but just come up short. Moses Battled all weekend putting together 2 huge come from behind wins and place 4th in the state tournament. James made the finals and battle just came up short, but knows what he wants next year. Jeff Lost in the finals in a rematch of the regionals the week prior. Joseph had the match of the night going into overtime and losing a scramble that could have gone either way. It was a great season. A lot of work and time went into make this happen and we look forward to working for next year now. Thanks to all of the wrestlers and fans that made this a memorable year that I will never forget.

With a busy summer behind us and pre-season winding down the Lancers are gearing up for the 2011-2012 season. There have been many changes, but the Lancer wrestling team looks to keep improving from one year to the next. We have some big shoes to fill losing three State placers and 5 of the 6 state qualifiers to either graduation or moving away. We have some tough seniors looking to finish their high school careers on a high note, The Juniors have many strong returning varsity wresters, the sophmores saw some time and gainged valuable experience last year with some strong regional performances, and we look to have a tough scrappy freshman group.
2011-2012 projected line up:
106 Austin sweet
113 James DeLeon(State runner up and Regional Champ)
120 We have a number of kids battling
126 Mike Paulk(4th at regionals)
132 Bryan Ruiz/Troy Torres
138 Jon Weiderhold/ Jarret Silva
145 Zach Grulli
152 Chris Aviles/Dominic Jones
160 Jared Johnson
170 Shaun Ramos
182 Eric Martinez
195 Bob Wood
220 Josh Ramos
285 Ed Kaufer( 4th at Regionals)
This could change based on clearances, grades , weight assessment, and many other factors their arer many others that will make it competitive and hard for those in the the projected line up. I should be exciting.
There will be more in the coming weeks.
