Manual Field Hockey: JV Game Summaries
Manual 9, South Oldham 0
The Pumpkin Tournament is under way and in the third game of the day it was Manual vs. South Oldham. With April stepping in to coach the team for the first time, South Oldham began the game with solid defense keeping the ball in mid field but couldn’t manage to move the ball toward their goal. Mid way through the first half Manual’s Jackie Ha #26 scored the teams’ first goal. From then on it was all Manual. Just minutes later another goal was scored by #16 Hannah Kingsbury. Before the half was over a third goal was scored by #22 Kate Hovious and a fourth by Hannah Kingsbury. By half time Manual had 8 corners, an amazing 11 shots on goal and was leading 4-0. Jenn was lonely standing around at Manual’s goal but shouted out encouragement from time to time.
In the second half the Crimsons took up where they left off. Keeping the pressure on South Oldham and controlling the offense, it wasn’t long before Manual had its first goal of the second half by Christina Arnold #11. The Lady Crimsons weren’t finished yet, there were more goals to come. Next to score was #35 Brooke Klondike, then another by Brooke with an assist by Jackie Ha. The fourth goal of the second half came by way of Jackie Ha with an assist by #15 Hannah Dabbagh. The final goal of the game was offered up #24 Megan Simpson (and the crowd went wild! We’re surprised the bleachers are still standing.). Manual finished the second half with 5 goals, 6 shots on goal, and 6 corners. Miranda watched it all from a distance at the goal for most of the second half. All totaled Manual had 9 goals, 17 shots, and 14 corners. The FINAL MANUAL 9, SOUTH OLDHAM 0.Thursday, October 1
Manual 1, Presentation 1
Presentation Academy visits Manual
The first half Manual dominated the field limiting “Pres” to virtually no stats. Goalie Jen Williams never touched the ball because Pres never got a shot off. That didn’t keep her out of the game though, she yelled, cheered and “coached” the Crimsons the entire first half. Manual had five corners the first half, they yielded zero points. They did, however have three shots on goal and while none went in the first one by Jackie Ha landed on top on the goal.
The second half began much the same way the first half ended. Manual was holding Pres to very little offense. Seven and a half minutes into the half Manual scored first on a shot by Christina Arnold. Several minutes later Pres answered tying it up 1 to 1. Manual won the battle of the stats in the second half with three corners, six shots on goal and a couple of saves by goalie Miranda Thompson. Pres had only one corner, two shots on goal and one save.
As the sun set on Rachel Baker Field the final score was 1 to 1.

Manual 2, KCD 0
The last game in September and fall was in full swing. With cloudy skies and temperatures in the mid 60’s the Lady Crimsons paid a visit to KCD. Manual started on offense never let up. Three minutes into the game Manual got its first corner, and while that corner didn’t produce a goal it set the tone for the rest of the game. Manual had scoring opportunities with four more corners in the first half, none however resulted in goals.
Manual had a total of 6 shots on goal in the first half. One of those shots came four and half minutes into the game when Hannah Kingsbury shot from the top of the circle and scored. The goal was waved off. The explanation was that the ball clipped the stick of a KCD player. Manual held KCD to just one corner and one shot on goal in the first half.
The second half began with KCD on offense, but quickly turned Manual’s way and four minutes into the 2nd half, Jackie Ha scored the first point of the game. The second came five minutes later with a goal by Hannah Kingsbury. KCD faired a little better in the second half getting three shots on goal and three corners. Manual had three shots on goal and two saves by goalie Miranda Thompson.
In the end it was Manual 2 and KCD 0.

Week of 9/14/09 vs. Ballard, Asumption, Collegiate & SHA
Ballard 3 Manual 0
The first half was almost all defense. With no points scored on either side. Corners were even at 3. Shots to the goal were 2 for Manual and 7 for Ballard. Jen Williams stood her ground and pulled out five saves with 3 of those coming in rapid fire sequence. The second half found Ballard spending a lot of time on offense on Manual’s end of the field. We had no corners or even shots to goal attempts. Ballard had 7 corners with the first three coming one after the other within the first 2.5 minutes of play. Miranda Thompson stopped the first two attempts easily. Amanda Vance and Megan Simpson assisted in defense of the goal on several occasions. Ballard managed to get off 10 shots to the goal with three connecting.
Assumption 3 Manual 1
Playing on Assumption’s turf field, Manual struggled offensively during this game. All seemed to be off their game for some reason. First Half had Assumption with 6 corners and Manual with 2. Manual had 2 saves but Assumption was able to get the ball in on their third shot to the goal. A stroke on penalty gave them a second point. (I will insert an opinion here that officiating was not at its best either with the penalty called late and the reason very questionable). Amanda Vance, with an assist from Assumption’s goalie made Manual’s only point. In the second half, again, Manual spent almost the entire time on defense. No corners or shots to goal while Assumption had 3 corners and 5 shots attempted. Manual held ground with only one goal allowed.
Collegiate 2 Manual 1
The team looked better for this game but still were not able to pull out a win. In the first half, Manual had 3 corners to Collegiate’s five with goals scored on two of those. Collegiate had 4 other shots to goal with Jen stopping them all. Hannah Dabbagh provided Manual’s only score. Second half was a lot of up and down the field but no further scores occurring. Manual had 2 corners to Collegiate’s 3 (and all three of theirs were within the first 2 minutes with ours coming within the last 3 minutes of the game. Manual made four shots with two going wide and two being handled by the goalie. Miranda managed to stop both of Collegiate’s two shots to the goal.
Sacred Heart 2 Manual 0
With an enthusiastic crowd watching, Sacred Heart was able to control this game. Manual only had 2 corners to SHA’s 6. Manual had eleven shots to the goal to SHA’s 4. Miranda held her own with only one getting by on a well-executed play off the post. In the second half, Manual again found us playing way too much defense. SHA had 6 corners with Manual’s only corner coming with 3.5 minutes left in the game. Manual only made one shot to the goal (during the corner) while SHA got off 10 attempts. Jen had 3 saves.
