Changes on the way for the Majors Program Spring 2008

A Few Steps Closer to the Big Diamond

You may have noticed work being performed at Bise and AmTech last fall?  This is because our Majors program will, starting in the Spring of 2008,  now be a 70' diamond program. This change, lengthens the base paths to 70’, places the pitcher at 50’ from home plate, allows for leading and stealing by base runners and allows for a third dropped strike to be played as a live ball.   Our Majors has always been a very competitive program; this change will add a further dimension to the game, better preparing players for the 90' diamond.  Still, a player must be 10 years old by April 30th to be eligible to be drafted by a Major league team. The drafting of eligible players is left to those Major league managers of a particular season based upon their own criteria. Once a player is drafted onto a Major league team, they shall play out the remainder of their Cal Ripken career in the Majors. Those players that are not drafted by a Major league team will be available for drafting to either an AAA or AA team.
