Q: Who is MVYB?
A: MVYB is the Mission Viejo Youth Basketball League. MVYB has been providing a recreational/competitive, balanced, non-intense winter based basketball program since 1969. The games are played under CIF rules with some slight modifications.

Q: When is Registration?
A: Registration of our next Winter season will begin in late August and conclude by the mid October. Registration is first come first serve, Head Coaches kids take priority. The registration fee covers the expense associated with uniforms, gym usage, equipment needs, referees, pictures and prizes.

Q: When does the season begin and end?
A: Practices begin in November. Games begin before Thanksgiving and conclude in late February/early March. The regular season is ten (10) games. The season concludes with single elimation playoff format.

Q: Where and when do you play games?
A: All games are played either on Saturday or Sunday at Mission Viejo HS, Capo Valley HS, and Saddleback College gyms. Hours range from 8 AM to 7PM.

Q: Who plays in MVYB?
A: Any boy or girl residing in the City of Mission Viejo from grades 3 through 8 properly enrolled. We also have a 1st/2nd grade Developmental division and a High School Boys division.

Q: How are the teams formed?
A: Every player goes through an evaluation for the benefit of the coaches who are in attendance. The coaches, in a "point system" draft format, then pick the players on draft night. Any player properly enrolled is assured of a spot on a team as long as sufficient qualified coaches are available.

Q: Who coaches the teams?
A: Coaches are volunteers. They are mostly parents but in some cases may be a relative or an individual that is interested in coaching a team but does not have a child on the team.

Q: Where do the teams practice?
A: The coaches determine team practice schedules and location. Teams can practice up to two hours per week. Practices are normally conducted at local outdoor school facilities.

Q: How do I find out about participating in spring, summer or fall basketball?
A: The NJB offices in Anaheim direct spring summer and fall seasons. You can reach them by calling 714-541-4450 or visiting their web site www.njbl.org. These teams are formed by the independent actions of local coaches outside without comment by MVYB. Travel will be required.

Q: Who is NJB?
A: NJB is the National Junior Basketball organization. They are headquartered in Anaheim, CA. They provide a program for teams across the state of California and in a number of other states. MVYB has for a variety of reasons, decided to align itself with NJB. These reasons include participation in the Girls program, NJB National All Star, and All-Net travel programs.

Q: How can I get involved with MVYB?
A: MVYB is always interested in speaking with individuals who have an interest in planning and administering the basketball program in the City of Mission Viejo. Q. What is All-Net?
A: The All-Net League was created to further the skills of the players, both boys and girls that are interested in playing basketball for their high school programs. It allows for a higher level of competition and operates under different competitive premises than MVYB's regular divisional play. All-Net teams are comprised of 6th, 7th and 8th grade players. Teams can play all year round and coaches are selected by their coaching peers with final approval of coaches and TEAMS by MVYB. Only boys and girls who reside in Mission Viejo can play on MVYB's All-Net teams.

Q: When are tryouts for All-Net teams held? A: Tryouts are held typically before each All-net season. Contact the All-Net Coaches directly for times and locations.
