Wednesday, July 29 Registration for 2009 Fall Ball is Now Open Our Fall program develops baseball skills while giving players a fun and supportive place to play. The program is instructional and informal. The focus is on building skills and not on winning games. Games are played in Mountain View and nearby communities. The games are on Sundays, with one or two practices during the week. This program is aimed at players, ages 8 to 11 (2009 player age), who played in the Minors or Majors divisions this year or will be entering Minors next year. The cost of the program is $75 for players who were in our 2009 Spring program. Players who were not in the Spring program pay $100 and will receive a $25 credit towards registration for the MVLL 2010 Spring program. Registration information and form can be downloaded from here. Payment and registration submission is done using postal mail. Payment is not accepted online. Registration deadline is August 10. Don't delay, the Fall Ball program fills quickly. Fall Ball for players who will be 13 or 14 years old next season is conducted by the Mountain View Babe Ruth League and information is availalbe on their website. Friday, July 10 11 Y.O. All-Stars 1 of 6 Left for Championship The Mountain View 11's meet Los Altos on Friday, 7/10, at Los Altos' Purissima Fields, 5:30 PM. MV played Los Altos in the first round of the tournament and lost by only 1 run. Since that first round MV has had victories over Sunnyvale Metro (10-5) and Cupertino National (4-1). Los Altos saw their first loss at the hands of Moreland (2-10). Moreland has survived the winner's backet and is seated for the 11 Y.O. Championship Game (7/14, 5:30 PM at SC Briarwood). Mountain View's second meeting with Los Altos is a game not to be missed. Come out and cheer the team on as they make a run for the championship. Monday, June 29 10 YO All Stars Shut Down Briarwood 11-0 The 10 YO All Stars met Santa Clara Briarwood at Moreland's field on Saturday (6/26). Here's the game summary from Mark Phillips, the Tournament Director of the game: Mountain View's Ko pitched a complete, regulation game no-hitter in leading his team to an 11-0 victory over SC Briarwood in 4 innings of play. Ko struck out 10 batters, walked 5 and had one HBP in a 77 pitch effort. SC Briarwood played hard the entire game, leaving 6 runners on base and placing four separate pitchers on the mound in an attempt to solve Mountain View’s steady, offensive production. Mountain View's #44, Higareda, is credited with a double and #8, Oliver, had a triple. Leading Hitters: Mountain View - #8 Oliver 2-3, triple and a single; #10 So’oto 2-3, with two singles. The 10 YO All Stars plays their next game on Monday (6/29) at Sunnyvale National's Jelcick Field (840 W. Washington in Sunnyvale) at 5:30 PM. Thursday, June 25 All Stars Night, Thursday, 6/25 The District 44 All Star Opening Ceremony will be held on June 25, 2009, starting at 5:30PM. The event will be at Santa Clara University's Schott Stadium (El Camino Real at Campbell Ave in San Jose). Remember to bring a canned food item for the Second Harvest Food Bank. Friday, June 19 Majors Giants Lose to Campbell, 3-4 The Majors Giants were eliminated from the Majors Division Tournament of Champions on Thursday evening at McKelvey Park. Campbell goes on to play in the semi-finals at Homestead Park in Santa Clara on Saturday at 10AM. Wednesday, June 17 Minor A's Lose to Serra and Exit TOC The Minor A's lost to Serra 2 to 15 at Santa Clara Westside's field on Monday evening. The Tournament of Champions is a single elimination playoff so the loss marks the last game for the MV Minor A's in 2009. Wednesday, June 17 Major Giants Defeated Cupertino American Angels 15-0 The Major Giants defeated the Cupertino American Angels 15-0 on Tuesday at Santa Clara Homestead field. Max Gishi, Dominick Bailey and Josh Williams combined to hold the Angels to only one hit. Gishi got the win. The Giants pounded out 10 hits in the 4 inning game. Ash Avery was the hitting star going 3 for 4 with a double and a towering home run. Kekoa So'oto also doubled. The Giants were helped by 6 CA errors. The Giants face a strong Campbell team Thursday, 5:30 at McKelvey. Campbell defeated Cupertino National on Tuesday by a score of 10-0. Come out and cheer on the Giants in their big game against Campbell on Thursday!! Sunday, June 14 MVLL 8-9 YO Tournament Team Beats Moreland In the annual Campbell Little League Friendship Tournament, the MVLL 8-9 Year-Olds Tournament Team overcame Moreland by a score of 13 to 9 at Sunday's game. The next game is Wednesday, 6/17, 5:30 PM, at the Campbell Little League Minor Field. Wednesday's opponent will be determined at Monday evening's duel between Serra and Los Altos. The tournament brackets can be viewed here. Sunday, June 14 Majors Giants Win Championship In the Majors Championship series, the Giants defeated the Dodgers in the best of three finals. The Giants are managed by Paul Williams and coaches Joe Mitchner and Alan Gishi. The Giants finished the regular season in first place and won four straight in the Playoffs to finish the season with a 21 and 1 record. The Giants will represent MVLL at the District 44 Majors Division Tournament of Champions. Sunday, June 14 Minor A's Win MVLL Championship The Minor A's beat the Pirates on Friday night at McKelvey Field to capture the 2009 MVLL Minor Division Championship title. The A's are managed by Mike Reelfs, assisted by Ron Newman. The team will present MVLL at the District 44 Minor Division Tournament of Champions. Monday, June 1 Closing Ceremonies on Sat., June 13 MVLL will host its Closing Ceremonies on Saturday, June 13 at McKelvey Park. All players are requested to attend the ceremony in uniform, but please bring an extra shirt, as all uniforms will be turned in to your Manager (exception: T-Ball players get to keep their shirts) at the conclusion of the event. All players should be at McKelvey no later than 11:40 am to gather with their Manager and Coaches for Team introductions. Closing Ceremonies will honor the Positive Coaching Award winners, the Majors and Minors champions, Juniors TOC participant and all MVLL teams and players for the 2009 season. Tuesday, May 12 Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit, and Run Event Wed., 5/13 The Mountain View Police Activities League is excited to announce it will be hosting the Major League Baseball Pitch Hit and Run event for the third consecutive year. This year's event will be held at Big McKelvey Park on Wednesday, May 13, 2009 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. No pre-registration is required and the event is FREE. The competition takes only about 15 minutes, depending on wait time. All boys and girls between the ages of 7 and 14 can compete and have the chance to advance to sectional events with the possibility of winning a trip to the MLB All Star Game. All players will receive a free personal and team photo, so please be sure you are in attendance. This is the main fundraiser for the League and your participation is greatly appreciated. The goal for each player is to raise a minimum of $50 by asking your family, friends and neighbors to sponsor your player’s participation. This year’s top fundraiser will get a free week at the Stanford University Summer Baseball School and participation in the Game’s Camp ($400 value). The registration desk will open at 12 noon. Players should arrive at 11:30 AM to check in and warm up. Assessment begins promptly at 12 noon. Returning players do not need to attend the assessment. Assessment will run to 3 PM. Players can be dropped off at Cooper Park (on Chesley near El Camino Hospital). All first time players [ages 13-14] must try out in order to determine ability to play at this level and assessment of skill for balancing teams. Players must be in baseball attire which includes cap, tee-shirt, baseball pants, cleats [molded or metal], and protective device [cup]. Each player should have a glove and bat. Assessment Time:- Sat, Feb 7 – 12 noon to 3 PM (arrive by 11:30 AM for check in and warm up) - If needed due to Feb 7 weather: Sat, Feb 14 – arrive by 11:30 AM for check in and warm up If the weather is light rain, the assessments will take place as scheduled. All players 9 to 12 years old try out in order to balance teams. 8 year olds can try out if interested in playing “up” to the Minor Division. Players should arrive baseball-ready and 15 minutes early to check in and warm up. Baseball attire includes cap, tee-shirt, pants, shoes (cleats or athletic), and cup for boys. Each player should have a glove. Bring a bat if available, otherwise, we'll have some on hand. Players who can't make it to their scheduled time can come to one of the others. Players can participate at tryouts on both weekends (this and next weekend) in order to make the best showing. If the weather is light rain, the assessments will take place as scheduled. The Giants did all of their scoring in two innings. After the Dodgers jumped to a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning on hits by Gavin Paradise and Greg Chase, the Giants countered with 6 runs in the bottom of the inning. An intentional walk to Hunter Simmons loaded the bases and Dominick Bailey struck the big blow with a grand slam over the left field fence. The Dodgers battled back with a pair of runs in inning three (hits by Jonathan Banos, Paradise, and Chase) and inning five (hits by Thomas Barbarito and Evan Johanssen) to close the gap to one run (6-5). However, the Giants erupted for 5 more runs in the bottom of the fifth to extend their lead to 11-5. Key hits in the inning came from Drew Mitchner, Max Gishi, Alejandro Guerrero, Simmons, and Bailey (his third hit). Drew Mitchner was the winning pitcher, going 4 and 1/3 innings while striking out three and walking none. Bryant Tinajero came on to record the final 5 outs. For the Dodgers, starter Dwight Washington pitched well, allowing just two hits in four innings. Teams will meet up with Managers/Coaches at 11:30 AM (no later than 11:45) at the corner of Villa and Hope Street. MVLL is Group Number 29 (our area will be marked in chalk on the sidewalk). One of the league's board members will be there for check-in. Teams will march in by Division with T-Ball first, Pioneer second, and then Minors. Players should arrive baseball-ready and 30 minutes early to check in and warm up. Baseball attire includes cap, tee-shirt, pants, shoes, and cup for boys. Players should bring a pair of athletic shoes and a pair of baseball cleats if they have them. Which pair is worn during the assessment will depend on the condition of the playing surface. Each player should have a glove. Bring a bat if available, otherwise, we'll have some on hand. Players who can't make it to their scheduled time can come to the other. Players can participate at the following weekend's tryouts in order to make the best showing. If the weather is light rain, the assessments will take place as scheduled. The cost of the program is $50 for players who were in our 2007 Spring program. Players who were not in the Spring program pay $75 and will receive a $25 credit towards registration for the MVLL 2008 Spring program. Registration information and form can be downloaded here. For players 13-18 years old, Stanford offers a Pitching and Hitting Camp from July 1 to 3. Lessons are 2 hours each day with 4 sessions scheduled each day.
