Fall Baseball Registration is CLOSED
Fall Baseball signup begins Frieday, August 10 and will close after one week or until all available player slots are filled (after which waitlists for Majors and Minors divisioins will be created.) We are limited to a single field this season for both practices and games. We can field 5 teams: 2 in Majors and 3 in Minors. We use the 2018 league age chart to determine the player's baseball age (the same age as was used for 2018 Spring baseball). Players 9-11 are eligible to sign up for the majors division. Players 8-10 are eligible to sign up for the minor division.

MVLL does not have a Fall Baseball program for T-Ball, Rookie, and Farm Divisions. Players 12 years old and older can participate in Mountain View Babe Ruth League (mvbr.org) and their Fall Ball program.

Registration information will be distributed on Wednesday, August 8. If you are presently on the MVLL emailing list you will receive the email announcement on Wednesday evening. The Fall Ball Web Page will also be updated on Wednesday with registration instructions and downloadable form.

Registration with payment is only accepted by postal mail. There are no in-person registration events. Registrations are not done online. Registration forms will be made available 2 days before signup begins. Envelopes bearing postmarks earlier than August 10 will be returned.

Fall Baseball is a very popular activity and will sell-out quickly. Last year, all slots were filled in 5 days. To receive Fall Baseball and other MVLL announcements, email info@mvll.org to be added to our mailing list if you are currently not receiving our newsletters.

Attendees were required to sign a waiver in order to use some of the games at the 2017 festival. For participants under the age of 18, this waiver must be signed by a parent or legal guardian. You can sign the waiver in advance and bring it to the festival, or you can sign it on-site. Waivers are collected in the center of the festival. Signage will direct you to this area.

Please note that MVLL does not arrange transportation to the Oakland baseball park. Try taking BART or other public transportation to the game—the best way to get to the ballgame without the stress of driving and expense of parking.

Speaking to us will be the Blue Angels Commanding Officer/Flight Leader CAPT Ryan Bernacchi, USN. (Presentation is 45 minutes plus 30 minutes for Q&A.)

Captain Ryan Bernacchi is a native of Los Altos, California and graduated from Mountain View High School in 1992, where he lettered in water polo and swimming. He attended the University of California, San Diego, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology through the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps in 1996, and was commissioned an Ensign in the U.S. Navy.

Captain Bernacchi joined the Blue Angels in September 2015. He has accumulated more than 3,000 flight hours and 600 carrier-arrested landings, and is a graduate of the U.S. Navy Fighter Weapons School (TOPGUN), NAS Fallon, Nevada. After graduating, he joined the TOPGUN staff as an instructor pilot and served as the Navy and Marine Corps subject matter expert in GPS guided weapons. Ryan served as a Federal Executive Fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, Massachusetts. His decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, one Individual Air Medal with Combat "V" (three Strike Flight), four Navy Commendation Medals, one with Combat "V," and numerous unit, campaign, and service awards.

The Captain very recently received his promotion on September 5, 2017. Congratulations, Captain! His extensive biography can be found here.

Our Captain knows a thing or two about teamwork. In his words, "Our mission is to represent the Pride and Professionalism of the Navy and Marine Corps, and to inspire a Culture of Excellence and Service to Country. Blue Angels have been proudly performing this mission since 1946. This year marks our 71st season and once again, our Team of 130 Sailors and Marines have trained incredibly hard and are privileged to showcase our teamwork and precision as we travel throughout this great country. The men and women who comprise the Blue Angels bring the technical expertise and experience they gained serving the Navy and Marine Corps fleet, and proudly represent the same values, skill, and dedication of those serving around the globe."

Please make the effort to join us, bring along a friend, your family, your young ones to hear Captain Ryan Bernacchi, our "local-kid-does-good", talk about what it really takes to make, nurture, and be a part of one of our nation's greatest teams. (RSVP link is below.)

Info About the Draft
Q. How does the draft work?
A. The draft is the method we use to distribute the available pool of players (within a division) to teams in a fair and balanced manner. Each team manager observes and rates each player during the player assessment sessions (tryouts) held in January and February. Soon after the last assessment, team managers meet (in a division). On the evening of the draft, each manager in turn, selects their players from the pool of players. Stronger players are chosen first followed by the developing players. In this way, at the end of the process, each team will have roughly the same level of talent.(The draft is used in the Minors AAA, Majors and Juniors divisions.)

Q. How are the Minors AA teams formed?
A. Players are placed on teams (players are not drafted). Teams are formed to have roughly the same level of talent. Requests for team buddys and coaches are accommodated as best as possible. Players must come to a tryout to be assessed on their skills.

Tying a Better Shoelace Knot
We've seen it happen.  The bat makes great contact with the ball then it's beat feet down the first base line.  Halfway to first, a shoe comes flying off.  Instinct kicks in and now the search is on to retrieve the shoe.  Out at first.  Don't be a shoeless runner.  Learn how to tie a better knot -- especially effective on those slippery round laces.
