The MSU-Mankato Dance Team holds tryouts in the spring, usually in April. The season will start when we attend NDA dance camp in July or August. Attending camp give us a bid to attend Nationals and the opportunity to received a paid or partial bid to nationals. It is an awesome experience for everyone and is required for every dancer to attend. Practices start the second week of class and are mostly 3 days a week. Times may vary depending on practice space and class schedules. Our current schedule is: Sun 6-8, Mon 4-6, and Wed 4-6. Conditioning is done during practice and outside of practice. We also weight train two days a week with the athletic trainer.
We have many performances throughout the year. Some of those include:
- Homecoming Week (Coronation, Parade, and Football Game)
- Football Games (Sidelines and Halftime)
- Midnight Madness
- Pepsi Tip-Off
- Basketball Games (Sidelines and Halftime)
- Appearances throughout Mankato
- Fundraisers
- Competitions around Minnesota/Wisconsin
- NDA COLLEGIATE NATIONALS in Daytona Beach, FL
Choreographing for our routines is done by our team, choreographers and dances learned from camp. There are no set rules on what way our dances need to be choreographed.
Practice starts to get more intense 2nd semester because nationals is approaching. To help us with our class load during that time, we are able to receive a credit for that semester towards the human performance requirement for being on the dance team.
Being on the MSU dance team requires a lot of hard work, dedication and teamwork. We have an awesome time together outside of practice, practicing and performing. If you have any questions about anything else that wasn’t mentioned, you can contact the coaches or the captains, we would love to hear from you!!
