WELCOME TO MSSLax!

The Minneapolis/St. Paul area Middle School Schoolgirls Lacrosse Association (MSSLax), founded in 2003, organizes and supports middle school age schoolgirls' lacrosse leagues. The goal of the association is to facilitate competitive play for middle school teams, stressing skills development and sportsmanship.

Spring teams play games from early April through late May; a separate play day is held each spring.

Summer teams will play games from mid-June until mid-July.  A play day is likely.

MSSLax has two divisions: 5th & 6th Grades (girls having completed 4th,5th & 6th grades - for summer only) and 7th & 8th grades. 7th/8th graders play using modified checking (checking below the shoulders in a downward and outward motion only). No checking is allowed in 5th/6th . Regulation stick pockets are required for both divisions.

Home teams will provide umpires if official umpires are unavailable. Those umpires should be trained student players, parents, or coaches. The association is offering umpire training sessions prior to the start of the season. Coaches are required to attend a Manditory Rules Interpretation Meetings.  And starting in spring 2008, all coaches for spring must be certified as a Double-Goal Coach with the PCA (Positive Coaching Alliance). More detailed league rules and regulation are available at left.

Summer Play Day a Big Success
The First Annual MSSLax Summer Play Day was held on the Minnetonka fields on July 19th.  The weather cooperated and a great day of exciting games and good sportsmanship ensued.  Thank you to all players, coaches, umpires and parents for your enthusiastic participation.  Thanks also to the Minnetonka coaches for helping arrange the use of the Minnetonka fields and to Julie Carlson for scheduling the umpires. MSSLax board member Krista Dean Klinger did a terrrific job of organizing the event.  Girls' Lacrosse Rocks!

Congratulations to the All Star Players and Coaches

A great day was had on Saturday at Holy Angels in the MSSLax spring season All Star Game during LaxTravaganza.  The weather was perfect and the players pulled together for a great match-off.  The "UVA" team of girls, coaches by Teresa Deming and Holly Iverson, managed to defeat the "Duke" team, coached by John Peterson and Mike Myers, with a score of 10-6!
