MSMIRACLE: Welcome
WelcomeWelcome to Mississippi Miracle 13 & under Basketball Team. As a youth league officer and a dad, I have agreed use my league experience to help establish and manage a tournament basketball team for young men 13 & under this summer. Starting as soon as possible, we will be gathering a roster of prospective players, joining a basketball association, obtaining insurance, getting approval for gym usage, fundraising, and scheduling tournaments. Coaches are Wesley Craft, David Irwin (summer only as available), myself as Manager/President, and Daryl Martin. Most of the tournaments that we will play in will be within an hour and a half drive from Hancock County, and can easily be traveled roundtrip within the same day. Once the team is established, parents will be invited to participate in future decisions that must be made, including selecting other officers and selecting a team Treasurer.
Summer tournament basketball is more competitive than recreational youth league basketball, but more developmental than school basketball. Winning is not the primary focus of this team, however, emphasis will be placed on striving to win and instilling competitiveness throughout the whole team. Playing time will be decided by a number of factors, to include playing unselfishly, demonstrating a strong work ethic, outstanding skills and abilities, strong desire, and a great attitude towards the game and fellow teammates and coaches. Our team philosophy is to continue to build upon a successful 7th grade school basketball program and also continue to develop the talent pool of players that will progress towards the high school basketball program, while fostering a winning attitude and sportsmanship among young men. Each individual is recognized to have different skills and needs, therefore, an environment will be created to foster a players contribution, accomplishment, confidence, and feeling of self-worth. Each player will know that they are an important part of the team and that their contribution is needed and appreciated.
The young men selected for the team are expected to participate regularly in team fundraising and sponsorship events all throughout the summer to pay for tournament entrance fees and expenses as they become necessary. Team members that are not participating in team fundraising events will be removed from the team or replaced if necessary, regardless of skill level or athletic ability. Working hard, fundraising, and developing the team first mindset, are all necessary skills that middle school young men are very capable of mastering. I am very much looking forward to helping our young men continue to develop as basketball players and great ambassadors for Hancock County.
With your commitment and their hard work, Im sure the summer team will be a huge success. Feel free to contact me if your have questions or concerns at 228-255-8326.
