This past week, The MPB Summer Basketball League lost a great friend.   Dave Cocks, President of Walden Savings Bank, and a very active community supporter, passed away suddenly last weekend.  Dave was involved in this league from the beginning in 1998.  As the President of Walden Savings Bank he sponsored teams in the league every year and was instrumental in getting the new clock on Court A.  His children played in the league and he was in the stands as a proud parent  cheering on his kids.  His loss as a friend of the league is large but his loss to the Town of Montgomery  area as a community servant is immeasurable.  The League Directors  offer our deepest sympathies to Daves wife, children and family.

ANNOUNCEMENT: The Future Stars division (7-8 year olds) will be run by Lauren Wendel again this year.  Lauren is a Most Precious Blood School graduate,Wallkill HS alumni, has played in the MPB Summer league since its inception and Coached for the last 4 years.  She had run the Future Stars camp for the last 2 years and has done a great job.   The Future Stars  will play on Mondays and  Wednesdays at 5PM before the regular games.  This division is for new players who need instruction in how to play the game and skills development.  Anyone who has already registered 7-8 year olds will be included in this group.  We would appreciate spreading the word to help fill this division.

The season is over, but not after a great Playoff and Championship Saturday.  The last 4 days gave us some upsets, some competitive games and some last minute winning shots.  All the teams played great and we had some of the best weather we have had since we started.  Congratulations to all the winning teams listed below.  As we end the season we also say goodbye to our Head Referee, John Nosig who has been with us since day one.  The estimate is he has refereed over 500 games at MPB.   We also congratulate all the people who worked hard to make this summer one of the very best:  Kelley Olley and Christine Masci and the best Concession Crew around, Pete Masci, Rich Wendel, Pat Clair, Ted Sheehan, Ed McLaughlin, Tom Mann, Christina Farone, Tony Mazza Rich Baskind, Ken Fisher, John Graham and Terrance Mahoney for thier hard work.  We also need to thank all our young coaches, referees and helpers that gave so much of their time: Lauren Wendel, Nicole Wendel, Richard Wendel, Chelsea Michella, Chris Michella, Kathryn Masci, Elizabeth Masci, Laura LT Tighe, Mickey Dennis, Ray Biggs, Brendan Mazza Meghan Graham, Keiely Miller,Mike McLaughlin, James Butler, and anyone else who I have missed.

This year we, as in past years, we had a 3 on 3 tournament to raise funds  to local charities,  we have set aside some of the proceeds to fund a scholarship that will help out our younger volunteers.  We have a great group of kids who have played or are still playing here. They are providing a great community service and are role models for the other kids.  We wish to encourage this spirit by providing some financial help towards college.   We had a great group of applications this year and the judges all agreed that the essays and letters of recommendations proved that we have the best group of young people here at MPB.  This years winners were Christina Farone, our resident "weather girl" who is attending Oswege College and Chelse Michella attending Holy Cross.

Thanks again to everyone for a great year and check back here around the first of the year for info on registration for 2011!                        8.1.10  10:55 pm  jpr

June 25 Update- Week 1 is done and except for a bit of bad weather on tuesday, all went well.  The games were very competitive and well played. Thank you to everyone who followed our new parking rules.

For everyones safety, it is very important that all players stay in the cars until parked.  We CANNOT allow kids to be dropped off at the top of the back parking lot.  We need everyone to use the sidewalks and be aware of the cars moving around.   Violation of this will result in your son or daughter missing the first quarter of the games.

Please remember that NO GUM is allowed on the courts by ANYONE:  Players, Parents, Coaches, Spectators, Volunteers.  It is impossible to remove once it hits the court surface.  Thank you    6/25/10  jpr  4:45pm

In the case we need to play inside:

Court A Games will play at Wallkill Middle School

Court B Games will play at MPB Gym

Court C Games will play at Ostrander Elementary School

WALLKILL MIDDLE SCHOOL IS 4 MILES NORTH OF MPB ON RT 208

OSTRANDER IS THE FIRST LEFT AFTER WALLKILL MIDDLE SCHOOL THEN THEN THE FIRST RIGHT  THE SCHOOL IS STRAIGHT  AHEAD

Please do not park in areas marked as "No Parking".  The Wallkill Police has been giving tickets to cars in these areas.

Please remember NO GUM on the courts:  players and spectators!

Our concession stand is open for business.  Try the delicious hamburgers and hot dogs  cooked by the MPB Knights of Columbus.  The revenues we make from the concession help us keep the cost of the league down.  Our prices are reasonable and the workers freindly.  Please help us out by buying food and drinks from our concession stand instead of bringing in drinks.

There is a recycle box near the concession stand for water bottles and cans.  Please help out the environment and the league by using the box instead of the trash bins.

If you have some free time and can help out at the concession stand, can volunteer ref, do the scorebooks, etc please ask and we can sign you up.

We have started a lost and found box for the items left behind each night.  If you are missing shirts or notebooks or flip flops please stop by and check out the box.  We will donate good items and throw out the rest at the end of the year.

SKILLS CAMP- Starting next week we will have a sign up sheet for our SKILLS CAMP for 7-12 year olds.  The camp will be from July 12 to July 16 from 9-12.  The cost is $60.00.

In the event we need to use our alternate sites because of rain here are directions to the schools:

This year we need everyones help in keeping the courts clean, safe and a fun place to watch basketball:

Please  do not chew GUM anywhere inside the gates: Players, coaches, or spectators.  If you see someone with gum, POLITELY ask them to dispose of it in the trash cans  (do not throw it over the fence)

No glass bottles, dogs, smoking or alcohol on the school grounds Please!

We have limited room on the courts. Please no chairs or strollers inside the gate.

No Parking in the driveway unless there is a marked parking spot.  Please use the lot o  Do not drop  kids off before parking your car. Use the sidewalks and be careful if you are crossing the driveway from the field.

We need everyone to  help curb the increase in negative comments from spectators.  This is an ongoing problem in all youth sports and we discourage any comments from coaches, players, parents, or spectators that do not add to the enjoyment of the game.  Please cheer as much as you want for your son, daughter, coach, team (or favorite volunteer ref).  We intend to ask anyone who is not following the rules to refrain or leave the courts.

Thank you for helping us make the summer league a family oriented place to enjoy the games, freinds, some good concession food, and mostly the kids.

2009 STUFF:

The 2009 Raymond Boyle Jr Championships are here:

Congratulations to all the teams in the tournament.  The spectators saw some of the best basketball of the season and the final teams will be giving us even more.  When we finish the Championships tomorrow night we will  have played 389 games this season.  There are  64 teams and about 650 players in this league, with about 90 coaches and alot of volunteers.  This year we had a large number of Coaches and volunteers  and referees that have played in this league and are now in High School or College.  There is a list of these people by the concession stand. We owe them a big "thank you" for stepping up and getting involved. We also had other volunteer scorekeepers, referees, concession people and of course Directors.  Please thank them for all thier hard work this season.  Special thanks to Tommy Mann, Christine Farone, Jim Langton, Bruce Chapin, Tony Mazza, and the Knights of Columbus for all their hard work.

Please make sure we have your email address, so we can contact you in January about the 2010 season.  Send your email3C/p>

Boys Open Rec Schedule has been revised. The dates are correct, th; In fact , it has not gone up in 4 years.  The cost of running the league continues to go up and we need your help to offset this.   Every year we seek team sponsors to help defray the cost of the league: Insurance, equipment, referee fees, uniforms, etc.  This year we have reduced the cost of a team sposor to $100.00.  The sponsor name is displayed on the Team Shirts, the schedules, and all over the website.  Hundreds of People each night and thousands of people over the season see your sponsors name.  If you have a small business or a community group that want to sponsor a team, please down load the sponsor form from the left side of the website under "Schedules and Rules".  Please ask at work if your company would like to help out as well.  If you have questions please email us at info@mpbsummer.com.  Thank you for your continued support of MPB Summer Basketball.    3/18/11  jpr
