Merrill Park Baseball League: Organization
The following are some brief comments about some of the key elements of the Merrill Park Baseball League Program:
LEAGUE OFFICERS:
There are 16 Executive Board positions and 5 positions on the Woman's Auxiliary. League Officials are elected each year. In order to be eligible to run, nominate or vote for a board position, you must attend a minimum of 7 League meetings.
MANAGERS AND COACHES:
The League requires all of its managers and coaches to be certified. Certification classes will be arranged for both basketball and baseball. Watch for announcements regarding dates in the Monthly Newsletter and at the monthly meetings. Certification classes cover basic fundamentals, sports psychology, basic first aid, conditioning and how to deal with parents. The League also offers video tapes for all levels of instruction.
LEAGUE MEETINGS:
League meetings are held on the first Monday of each month at 7:30 PM. Meetings are held at the Merrill Park Clubhouse. Meetings are open to parents of Merrill Park players. An update of League activities is provided. Parents having questions, comments, concerns or suggestions should present them at the meetings.
FINANCES:
With the exception of a small subsidy from the Township of Woodbridge, the League is entirely financed by registration fees, sponsor fees, and the fund raising activities of the League.
CLUBHOUSE:
The League has entered into an agreement to lease the former Chain O'Hills library from the Township of Woodbridge. The building will be used for equipment storage, registration, monthly meetings, executive board meetings, team drafts and other League activities.
BASKETBALL UNIFORMS:
Each child participating in the Basketball Program will receive a uniform tee shirt. All players may keep their uniforms. Players must be in uniform in order to participate in games. Players must wear either low or high top basketball sneakers.
BASKETBALL EQUIPMENT:
The League provides the basketballs. Players must supply their own personal protective equipment.
BASEBALL UNIFORMS:
Each child will receive a uniform consisting of a jersey, baseball pants, baseball socks, and a hat. The player keeps the hat. The rest of the uniform must be returned at the end of the season. Sneakers can be worn, but it is suggested that players wear rubber soled baseball cleats or turf shoes. Metal spikes are allowed in the Junior Division only!! ANY PLAYER WHO DOES NOT RETURN A UNIFORM WILL BE CHARGED $35.00. IN ADDITION, THE PLAYER WILL BE BARRED FROM PARTICIPATING IN FUTURE SEASONS (BASKETBALL AND BASEBALL) UNTIL SUCH TIME AS THE UNIFORM HAS BEEN RETURNED OR THE $35.00 FINE IS PAID.
BASEBALL EQUIPMENT:
The League supplies bats, balls, helmets, and catcher protective gear. Players must supply their own glove and personal protective equipment.
