Next batter Quinn Hardrick hit a double with an rbi scoring Tyler Thompson.Danny Smith and James Townley each had a base hit.Darren Laiggie had a single and a home run to help offensively. In the feild Kenny Merlock was great catching throwing 2 runners out trying to steal. Tyler Thompson and Mac Boney turned a nice 4-6-3 double play.On the mound Darren Laigaie got the start, throwing a solid 2 innings and Tyler Thompson finished strong throwing the last 4 innings. M.L went on to win 4-2.In the first game of the championship round, Mays Landing defeated EHT 6-2. At the plate Kenny Merlock and James Townley each had base hits while Darren Laigaie had a Grand Slam to blow this game open. Patrick Speer , Frankie Mazzeo, Daniel Flippen , Danny Smith and Tyler Thompson all capitalized off of EHT walks. In the field Patrick Speer made play after play at 3rd base and also turned a 6-4-3 double play with Tyler Thompson. Quinn Hardrick , James Townley, Frankie Mazzeo and Daniel Flippen all made nice plays in the outfield. Danny Smith got the start and pitched the whole game, mixing up his pitches and keeping the EHT batters off balance thru 6 innings. This set the tone for one heck of a final game Tuesday night between EHT and Mays Landing. EHT jumped out to an early lead, hitting two homers and taking a 3-0 lead. Tyler Thompson came in to put out the fire and had the EHT batters off balance by mixing up his pitches with a nasty curve ball . Thompson went on to pitch 6 innings allowing just one more hit and striking out 10, as Mays Landing triumphed 8-3.
At the plate Mac Boney's single drove in the go ahead run. In the field Quinn Hardrick made 2 great catches in centerfield, one diving.12u State Tournament Results from Montgomery Township- Coach ThompsonWe lost a close one in the first game to Brick Twp 8-5. We started out hot in the first inning scoring 4 runs . Quinn Hardrick led off with a base hit followed by Tyler Thompson with another base hit which led to Danny Smith hitting a double to drive both runners in . Kenny Merlock singled and started another string of hits by M.L. Danny Smith got the start on the mound and pitched solid , but Brick twp kept creeping up until in the bottom of the 4th brick twp hit a 3 run home run. Tyler Thompson came in to finish the game on the mound for the next 2 innings. We got solid hitting by James Townley going 2-3 and lot of singles by other M.L. players but it was not enough . Brick Twp went on to win 8-5.Mays Landing would play the next day at 3pm. against Waretown. Kenny Merlock got the start and pitched 5 innings allowing only 2 hits. Mays Landing's offense was led by Tyler Thompson who went 3-3 with a double and 2 singles 5 RBI and 2 scored runs, also Kenny Merlock 2-3 , Danny Smith 2-3, James Townley 2-3 , Frankie Mazzeo 2-3 and a lot of singles. Defensively Darren Laigaie , Daniel Flippen , Gianni Baglivo, Quinn Hardrick and Patrick Speer all played solid in the outfield. Mac Boney continued to scoop balls out of the dirt at firstbase. And Steven Damiano , Danny Smith and Tyler Thompson all held down the infield. Mays Landing went on to win 12-2.Mays Landing would play the next day Sunday at 10 a.m. With us having a long 2 hr ride, I was worried about the kids being tired and it seemed to show. We took on Marlton and once again got out on top first with 1-0 in the first inning. Quinn Hardrick led off with a single and then stole 2nd base . That led to Kenny Merlock hitting a single to drive in Hardrick. Tyler Thompson got the start in this one on the mound . Marlton dropped a couple of base hits in by hanging in there on Tylers curve ball and stole a few bases, and before you knew it the score was 6-1 Marlton. Danny Smith came in to pitch and got us out of a tough inning. Mays Landing never quit , being down 7-1 I reminded them how much game was left. Next inning we got a lead off walk and a nice infield base hit b u nt by Tyler Thompson. That loaded the bases for Danny Smith and just like he's done twice before this all-star season, Danny Smith hit a Grand Slam Home run to cut the lead to 7-5. It seemed like what we needed but Marlton never stopped the aggressive base running style and added to the lead. I am proud of our kids, They never quit , in the 6th James Townley hit a 300 ft Monster Home run and Frankie Mazzeo drove a hit into center but it just was too late. Marlton won 14-6. Mays Landing had a great run and finished 7th SNJ, and as a coach I couldn't be prouder of them. I told these kids to set goals before this season and it showed that they set them very high .
