Dear Parents,
The Board of Directors of Middlebury Soccer is always looking for ways that we can better serve all of our soccer players. As many of you know, once the players reach U9 and travel, we commonly only have enough kids to field one team, and sometimes we need to combine age groups to field a team. This means that in some cases, we have a division 1 team and have kids playing at a competition and skill level they may not be comfortable with. Or we may have kids playing on a division 2 team who would prefer a higher level of competition. We would like to be able to offer more teams at each age level so that each child can play on an appropriate team.
In order to try to expand what we can offer the travel
players, we are currently in discussions with the Southbury
Soccer Association to have a pilot program of combined teams. For the Fall 2005 season, we are
proposing to have two teams that would be combined Middlebury and Southbury teams. These teams would be a Division 1 U11
Boys team and a Division 1 U12 Girls team. Tryouts would be open to all
age-appropriate players in both towns. We would ensure that a minimum number
of Middlebury players (perhaps four or five) are on each team. In addition, we would also make sure
that there is a Division 2 team for those players who are not selected for the
Division 1 team. This
program would be a pilot and may or may not continue in the future depending on
the success of the program and the need at each age level.
Discussions are not yet complete with Southbury. Both towns are in
agreement that this idea is beneficial to both soccer clubs, however we need to
finish working out the details. This will be finalized in the next
month so that try-outs for teams can be scheduled.
The Middlebury Soccer Board felt that we should share this
information with you since you might be hearing rumors about what is going on,
and this could impact your child. Some of that information might be
correct and some might not.
Please keep in mind that this is not yet finalized, but we will
continue to share updated information with you when we have it.
