MIDDLEBURY YOUTH SOCCER
COACHES’ GUIDELINES
1) There will be no malicious yelling at players - for any reason.
2) There will be no yelling at referees - for any reason - no matter how bad the call / no call.
3) There will be
no taunting, yelling, teasing of players on opposite team.
Any mistreatment of players or referees will result in
the coach’s removal from the Association;
in addition, his/her child will no longer be allowed to play
4) The
Coach should arrive on time at practice prepared with practice drills. Drills can be researched on many web sites.
5) Teach players to compete with respect for the officials, opponents,
teammates, coaches,
parents / spectators and themselves.
6) Fill
the player's "emotional bank" -
praise from a coach should outweigh
criticism by at least a 5-to-1 ratio. Player should never be screamed at or
otherwise embarrassed.
7) Every
player must play a reasonable amount of time or the required time as per guidelines (unless player
refuses to play).
8)
Each coach must have a parents meeting before the first practice session
takes place. At
this meeting, the coach can communicate his expectation of the players and of the parents. The coach
must communicate to the parents that any misbehavior will result in his/her child’s removal from
the team.
