 Game Summary

The second game of the tournament was a classic nail-biter as the game came down to the final swing of the bat.  Early on, Joe Kirkland was pitching well, but the defense was struggling. After completing four plus innings on the mound and only giving up two earned runs, Joe and the team were leading 5-4.  That lead was quickly erased by a scrappy Central squad, but Derek Barosh was able to shut the door on them after they tied the score in a chaotic fifth inning.  Barosh pitched two innings allowing two hits and one run to get the win in relief.

Hits on the day were bunched in the middle of the order as the 3-, 4-, 5- and 6 hitters accounted for all the Dawg hits in the game.  Brett Thornell, Derek Barosh, Rene Moreda and Ryan Welch each had hits, while Barosh and Moreda doubled up.  Rene's two hits included a triple and the game-winning single in the bottom of the sixth with two outs.

 Game Summary

On what would prove to be a frustrating day for the Dawgs, the team lost its first game of the season. Early on, the game was a classic pitcher's duel. Ryan Welch started for MHS and quickly struck out the side in the first inning. This set the tone for the game as Westwood was held hitless for the first four innings while MHS could only manage one hit during the same time. Welch took the loss after pitching 5 1/3 innings while surrendering two runs on three hits while striking out five. After Welch left, Jared Pyle and Blake Kane relieved, but the second error of the sixth inning proved too much to overcome as four additional Westwood runners were able to score.

The Dawg bats were equally quiet on the day. Derek Barosh led the anemic MHS attack with two hits including the Dawgs only extra-base hit. Kenny Frelow, Brett Thornell and Jordan Schuetz chipped in with singles, but could only push across one run in the game.

 Game Summary

In the second game of the day, the Dawgs were held scoreless for the first time this season. Jordan Schuetz took the mound on the wrong day as he pitched well, but the MHS bats were stubburn in their slumber on this day. Schuetz pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up four earned runs on only one hit while striking out four. Jared Pyle and Jacob Thornbrough pitched well over the last 1 1/3 innings giving up no earned runs on only three hits.

Hitting leaders were hard to come by in this game for MHS. Hits were provided by Ryno Garza, Duncan Wendell, Ryan Welch and Nicholas Johnson whose double came within inches of clearing the left-centerfield wall.

 Game Summary

Day three of the Centex tournament was a new day indeed. Temperatures were low and the wind was high, but nothing could stop the Dawgs on this day even as the flu swept through the team.

Derek Barosh pitched five very strong innings allowing just two earned runs while walking only one to go with eight strikeouts. Jared Pyle pitched the final inning while striking out two.

Moreover, this was a day for the MHS hitters. The bats erupted against Pflugerville to the tune of 14 hits and 10 runs. Seven different batters had hits with Brett Thornell, Derek Barosh, Ryan Welch and Rene Moreda striking more than once. The bats were powerful as well as Thornell, Welch, Moreda and Jordan Schuetz each had a double while Derek Barosh BLASTED the first homer for the Dawgs this year. Barosh's 3-run bomb blew a tight game open in the bottom of the third as MHS plated six runs in the frame.

 Game Summary

The final game of the tournament, the bats stayed hot. Freshman Jared Green got the win for the Dawgs and pitched four quality innings striking out a single-game high for the season nine batters. Jared Pyle finished out the game allowing a single run and striking out one.

But the story today was the red-hot Dawg bats. Matching the first game of the day, the MHS hitters stroked 14 hits in scoring 10 runs. Again, seven different batters had hits. Brett Thornell, Derek Barosh and Duncan Wendell each had three hits apiece while Garrett Kinart added two hits. Barosh continued his power surge with two doubles while Thornell, Wendel and Jake Downey added doubles of their own.

On the day, the Dawgs put up 20 runs on 28 hits. This was a drastic improvement over the single run on 9 hits accumulated the day before. Let's hope the team continues to click like this going into next week's tournament.

 Game Summary

A close game goes wrong with the help of the sun! The Dawgs had this game under control until a runner reached in the top of the 5th on a dropped third strike. Then on a sure double-play ball the second baseman loses the ball in the sun. Cy-Falls winds up taking the lead with three runs in the inning. Ryan Welch started for MHS and battled through five innings without his best stuff. Welch allowed 3ER on 5H while striking out 7. Derek Barosh was charged with the loss even though he allowed only 1ER in his two innings of work while striking out 5.

The Dawgs out hit Cy-Falls in the game 8-7, but just could not push across runs for the win. Rene Moreda and Welch each had two hits. Moreda had a double and a triple on the night while fellow batters Garrett Kinart and Kenny Frelow also clubbed doubles.

 Game Summary

For the second time this season, the Dawgs defeat the Klein Forest Eagles, but this time around the game was much closer. Joe Kirkland got the complete game win with a strong seven-inning performance. Kirkland surrendered only 3ER on 6H while striking out an impressive 11 Klein Forest hitters.

Offensively, MHS put up the hits, but couldn't consistently get runners across the plate. Part of the problem was that the hits were clumped in the middle of the lineup by only 5 players. Derek Barosh and Rene Moreda led the attacke with three hits apiece while Garrett Kinart and Kirkland added two each. Barosh and Moreda also supplied the power with a homerun and triple, respectively.

 Game Summary

How do you take a positive out of an 11-1 beat-down? The answer is the pitching of Senior Garrett Kinart. Kinart surrenders 4ER (two scored after he left the game) in 5+ innings while giving up only 4 hits against a strong Klein ISD team. Jared Greene and Jared Pyle came in late, but couldn't shutdown the KC bats as MHS loses the game.

It's tough to win any game while only gather 5 hits and one run. Kenny Frelow had a good game going 2-for-3 with a double. Brett Thornell, Derek Barosh and Rene Moreda each chipped in with a single. Ryno Garza scored the only run.

 Game Summary

Ouch! Turned out to be a tough day for the Dawgs getting out-scored 30-9. Jordan Schuetz, Duncan Wendel, Blake Kane and Jared Pyle combined to surrender 16ER on 17 hits while striking out 9.

Offensively, there wasn't much happening either... at least not until the bottom of the fifth inning. It was then that the bats rallied just a bit with Jake Downey stroking a grandslam followed by Nicholas Johnson with a solo homerun (each giving a glimpse of things to come). Downey had a strong game going 2-for-3 with 5 RBI. Brett Thornell added two hits also while Derek Barosh, Garrett Kinart and Jared Pyle each added a hit.

 Game Summary

From "Ouch" to "Wow"! After a less than stellar stretch of baseball, the Dawgs got it rolling just in time for the first district game. Derek Barosh got the start for MHS but did not have his best stuff (3 IP, 6 H, 7 ER), but Fab Freshman, Jared Greene, entered the game in the fourth inning to quell the Mustang bats. Greene finished the game getting the win with 4 IP, 3 H, 0 R and 3 K's.

The batters started slow, but then unleashed a torrent of hits and runs that had been stymied most of the week frustrating players, coaches and fans. On this day however, the hits kept coming especially in a fifth inning explosion that saw 11 runs cross the plate for the Dawgs. Five Dawgs had a multi-hit day with Jared Greene leading the way with three hits including a double. Kenny Frelow (HR), Brett Thornell and Jake Downey (HR) added two hits each. Ryan Welch and Garrett Kinart each added a single.  But the star of the game offensively had to be Nicholas Johnson. Johnson stroked not one, but two homeruns on the day (giving him 3 HR in his last 4 ABs) while driving in 6 runs.
