TRAVELING BASKETBALL: Welcome

MHAA Basketball Policy
The Traveling Program will attempt to balance the desire of allowing all players to participate (i.e. no cuts) with assesing minimum skill requirements for traveling ball and the practical problem that large squads of players make it difficult for coaches to provide players with a reasonable amount of playing time.

  Team must have a minimum of 8 players. If more than 16 players are qualified, 2 teams will be formed. If there are between 11 and 18 qualified players, the Basketball Policy Committee, in consultation with the coach shall determine the size of the roster.

A roster of more than 8 (7th/8th)will only be allowed if:
1. all the players are qualified and have similar try out scores
2. additional games can be schedule to allow adequate playing time
3. the Policy Committee and coach are in agreement on a playing time structure

All teams within the same gender / age group will have an equivalent number of players. For example, if 17 7th grade boys are playing, 9 will be on one team and 8 will be on another. A split of 10 and 7 will not be allowed. The Basketball Policy Committee, with recommendations from the gender / age group coaches, will make the final decision on team size.

Should any of these conditions not be met, the Basketball Policy Committee reserves the right to cut the team to 10 players.
Refunds will be made to players if they do not make a traveling team. No refunds are issued after a player is placed on a team.
