Jr Indians Crowned New Berlin Tournament Champions
The Jr Indians were crowned the New Berlin tournament champions with a 8-6 win over the Waukesha Yellow Jackets on Sunday afternoon. It was a beautiful weekend for baseball and the championship was icing on the cake. The weekend started off with a nice win over the Waukesha Blazers 15-8. The win also helped revenge a tough 3-2 loss to the Blazers earlier in the week.
Next up for the Indians were the New Berlin Heat. The Heat was able to edge out the Indians 5-3 in a well played baseball game. It is always tough to maintain your level of intensity in back to back games, but the Indians played their hearts out and left it all on the field.
Sunday morning proved to be the game of the weekend as the Indians outlasted the Milwaukee Braves 1-0 by scoring in the bottom of the sixth to win the game. This game was a defensive and pitching gem and one that propelled the Indians into the championship game Sunday afternoon.
The championship game had the Indians playing against the Waukesha Yellow Jackets on the New Berlin West varsity field. Conditions were fantastic and the Indians did not disappoint. The Indians brought their sticks and scored 8 runs in the first two innings to take a 8-0 lead. From there, the Indians played outstanding defense and made play after play to hold the Yellow Jackets scoreless through four innings. The fifth and sixth got a little hairy as the Yellow Jackets began putting together a few hits of their own, however the Indians were able to hang on and score a 8-6 victory to secure the championship.
The weather was beautiful, the fans had a ball and the Indians were crowned champions. It doesn't get any better than that!
