 11th Championship Game
in 2009
 for the
Memphis Tigers !!!!!
WOW !!!!

Tigers look to be gaining form with 1 more tournament (Stars -n-Stripes Gobal event) before heading to Cooperstown, Ny. The Tigers have a busy schedule coming up. Tigers have 49 wins on 2009 season already !!!!!

Monday, May 25
Tigers take 2nd after rain cancelled Memorial Day Championship game.

Tigers go yard 8 times !!!!  Finish 5-0 for week-end

The Tigers didn't get a chance to play the Desoto Cardinals for the championship, as all games were shut down due to the amount of rainfall that turned the fields in small ponds.

The Memphis Tigers were eager to get back on the field after hitting a mid-season slump.  The Tigers did just that, bringing their defense of old and hot bats to the park this Holiday weekend. The Tigers would draw every late game in the book this week-end with game times of 7:15, 9:40, and 8pm. This made for some very late evenings for the Tigers and a very tiresome weekend for the parents who, worked the ADRL Race at Memphis Motorsport Park.

The Memphis Tigers would jump out quick with big offense against the Diamond Aces from ARK, The Tigers would Plate 10 runs while soild pitching performances from Hefflinger, Baugh and Locke would keep the Diamond Aces from getting back into the game. Tigers 10-3

The Next Game of the night saw a very talented / solid Rawlings Tiger team out of Ballwin - MO, the Tigers would get a solid Pitching performance from Fisher as the Tiger Defense was a solid Rock behind him. The Tiger Bats had enough power to take the lead, While the defense kept it..  Tigers 6-1

The Tigers would Battle the Ark Tigers at 8pm Sat night. The Memphis Tigers would jump out to a quick 4-1 lead with an awesome pitching performance from DJ Roinson. The Memphis Tigers held this lead until the top of the 5th inning. The Ark Tigers would make a come back, with a few questionable calls??? and take the lead by 1 as time expired. The Ark Tiger pitcher had come in the game and kept the Memphis Tigers bats quiet for the last 3 innings. The Tigers had their backs against the wall, it was win it here or nothing. Parker Jordan was first up for the Tigers. It didn't take long for the Tigers to tie the game, as Parker went yard with authority!!! on the first pitch. (This ball is still going 240+?)

Next up was Steven Kendrick, with 2 balls and 1 strike Steven dug deep and went dead centerfield to the middle of the lake for a walk-off homerun!! Back to back homers to win the game !!! Memphis Tigers 6-5

The Tigers would start bracket play off with North MS Rebels from New Albany. Parker Jordan would take the mound and finish this game for the Tigers with a soild Pitching performance. The defense was tremendous with Garrett Baugh hooking up with Hugh Fisher to pull a double play. The Tiger defense was stingy and looked to be back in form. The Rebels with a soild pitching and stingy Defense of their own, only allowed 4 runs from the Tigers. The Tigers had to earn these runs , Parker going yard, Austin Pace sac fly for a RBI and William Locke heads up base running. Tigers 4-1.

The Semi-final brought the Rawling Tigers for a re-match. Rawlings Tigers were determined to knock the Tigers out. However Turtle took the mound and owned the diamond, Holding the Rawlings Tigers scoreless. Garrett Baugh would start the game with Thunder for the Tiger Bats, going centerfield in the first inning for a 2 run homer to give the Tigers the lead. Logan Cain wouldn't be out done sending one over Left field fence for his 2nd Homer on the week-end to increase the Tiger lead. Austin Pace would come up just a few feet short from going yard himself but did add a run to the board with a hug linedrive hit to left-field scoring Frank (Turtle) Hefflinger. Tigers 5-0

The Tigers were primed for what was looking like a Championship game with the Desoto Cardinals. The Cardinals were leading the Decatur Crush 2-1 in the top of 5 when the rains came. It was at this point the tournament was called and The Tigers would have to settle for 2nd place. The Tigers had a great week-end and look forward to their break. The Tigers will be taking a 9 day baseball break and enjoy a little family time. Great job Tigers !!

Homerun list for the week-end:

Logan Cain 2, Parker Jordan 2,

DJ Robinson 1, Steven Kendrick 1,

Bam Bam 1, Garrett 1

RIFIA TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONS !!!! 8TH STRAIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP GAME !!!!! WOW !!!

Memphis Tiger 10's play up in 11 yr old AAA-AA Tournament and facing tough competition and a grueling schedule including some midnight-baseball take 1st place in the RIFA "Fill the Food Bank" tournament in Jackson TN.

The Memphis Tigers have been working hard every practice. That hard work and team Chemistry is starting to take shape on the field. This team has really jelled the last few weeks. The Tigers made all parents and coaches happy winning this tournament but it was something else that caught everyone's eye.  The Boys took a big step FWD in becoming Young Men. They showed a maturity level on the field that had other Coaches  & Umpires complimenting them all week-end.  This group has started learning what a team sport is; there were no Hero's / Superstars this weekend but team sacrifices that made the coaches proud.

The Tiger went 8 deep showing their pitching depth with plenty of pitching left. The defense was as solid a defense play that the Tigers Coach Kendrick has ever put on the field. This is a special group. The Tiger bats were hot at times with a combination of flurries. The 250 field kept the Tigers from adding a few more homeruns to the totals, Lets just say the bombs were flying...  The Tigers earned the #2 seed after pool play by only allowing 9 runs. The last pool game was against a power hitting Lexington Cardinal Team that pushed the Tigers to the last inning. The Game was tied going into the bottom 6th. Garrett Baugh was able to get on Base with a hard single through the infield. Garrett moved into scoring position with just a few pitches. With DJ Robinson on second and Chris Swanberg at the plate, the Tigers liked there Chances. It only took one pitch that went sailing past the catcher as Garrett slide across home plate to give the Tigers victory 7-6   This game brought the Tigers confidence the rest of the tournament as the Tigers would only allow 2 more runs in the next 4 games!!!!!  One of those very questionable, on a time-out called balk??  (Learning tool here) The Tigers would go on to shut-out the next 2 oppenants.

The Tigers would allow 1 run to the Tipton Cobras. Reggie Holmes of Tipton was able to stroke a single and move around the bases, squeezing in home on PB.  Hats off to Reggie he is one of the fast best athlete's in the tri-state area.  Reggie also robbed a few Tiger hitter with diving catches in center. 2 big plays PB ball flip back to Hugh Fisher covering home to prevent a run. DJ fielding a hard shot up 3rd base line in the chest with bases loaded, having the composure to finish the play by not only tagging 3rd but throwing the runner out at first for a double play.

The Tigers went into the Championship Game in Better shape then they have looked all season. The hard work looked to have paid off as the Tigers looked rested and energized. The Tiger jumped up 5-0 in the first. The defense / Pitching did the rest. Logan Cain would score the winning run on balk call that would enforce the run rule. Tigers 9-1

Highlights: Parker Jordan proved to everyone he is a pitcher you better respect as the big man is tapping into his potential and hitting the 60 mph mark. Parker closed 2 games with authority.  WOW!!  Parker also turned a double play with cat like reflexes, recording the out at first and then turning and firing home to Bam Bam to stop a would be scoring runner for the 3rd out of the inning.

Hugh Fisher and Bam Bam combing not once but twice robbing runners from scoring on PB'S. Excellent team work.

Tiger Hitters could have logged at least 8 more homers. With DJ going about 245.

Tiger Pitchers all that can say is WOW!!!!  Thanks Coach Wheat

Tiger Defense outstanding all week-end.  Too many TAPS to mention them all...

The Memphis Tigers travel to Nashville to play in a Charity tournament. The Tug McGraw Foundation is bringing together some very talented teams: Georgia Bandits, AL TPSA Bandits,  GA 6-4-3 Double Play, West TN Wildcats, Memphis Outlaws, Fairfield Chiefs, OH , North Alabama Giants and many others.  This will be a very good tournament and for a good cause. Go Tigers

Coach Wheat was presented the Team Trophy for his outstanding support in sharpening the pitchers skills for the Memphis Tiger 10s!

Monday, April 6
BEST OF THE SOUTH RUNNER-UP

Tigers go 5-1 on the week-end, 7th straight Championship Game !! Tigers score 69 runs and only allow 15 runs in 6 games !!!!!  WOW

Tigers take next week-end off, next stop Jackson, Tn for the Diamond Demolition "Global Sports"
Great Tournament Tigers , Hats off to the Giants for another Championship run.

Rendezvous Early Bird USSSA NIT RUNNER-UP

Tiger have another Championship run only to fall short after a long day at the Park.

The Memphis Tigers played another strong tournament field with some of the best teams in the local area. Playing this good competition often and early is only going to make the Tigers a better ball club.

The Tigers started out Friday night with Vision Baseball. Vision is a strong hitting great base running team. Tiger Pitchers Bam Bam Cochran and William Locke kept Vision's bats at bay, While the Tigers mustered up enough hits to get a win on Friday night. 5-2 Tigers

Sat would Bring the Mississippi Braves. The Tigers would jump out quick with 4-0 lead in the first. Frank Hefflinger would take the mound for the Tigers and finish the game strong after only throwing 10 pitches in the first 2 innings..  WOW!!!  Great Pitching and Great Defense..  Frank was too hot to handle this game.. The Tiger bats did the rest plating 12 runs.  Tigers 12-3

The new format for this year's tournament gives everyone a chance but really extends the last part of the tournament.  After only playing 1 game Friday and 1 Sat. You have to play 3 on Sunday to win the Championship????????  Tigers would earn #2 seed after pool play

The Tigers would start a long Sunday with Skeeter Baseball.  Skeeter came to play hitting 2 Homeruns to stay in the game early after the Tigers jumped to a 9-1 lead. Skeeter battled back to 9-10 before the Tiger bats took back over and won the game. Tigers 18-9.

The Tigers would Face a much improved Desoto Cardinals team in the semi's. Desoto came ready to play with some sound defense and soild pitching. This was a true baseball game as 2 very prepared teams played solid baseball that every fan enjoyed to watch. The Tigers held a 3-1 lead going into the 6th inning. The Cardinals were determined to give the Tigers a run. Trey Martin for desoto got things started with a base hit to get the Cardinals going. The Tigers were able to stop the Cardinals run but not before they tied the game 3-3. The Tigers were the home team with one more chance at the plate. DJ Robinson was at the plate for the Tigers, DJ was also the starting pitcher and pitched a outstanding 4 innings only allowing 1 run. It only took 1 pitch and DJ sent it to centerfield fence 200+ to send the Tigers to the Championship Game. Tiger 4-3

Championship Game was all Germantown. The Tigers didn't show-up.  Germantown being a veteran team and well coached was ready to play.  Not much to say here.  Giants win Championship with soild defense and solid hitting. Hats off to Germantown. Tigers Prepare for next tournament.  This was the Tigers 6th straight Championship Game.  WOW!!

 Chris Swanberg goes yard !!!

DJ Robinson hit's walk-off HR in the bottom of the 6th
to put Tigers in Championship Game !!

2009-03-08-40815-RunnerUp
Runner-up Opening Week-end First TN Fields

Tigers finish runner-up at FTF.  The Tigers started out Opening week-end with a test right off the bat.  The Tigers would face a hard hitting West TN Wildcat team.  The Wildcats (last year's Linedrive) is a well respected team with some good coaching and great athletes.  They also added a former Tiger to their attack (Hayden Leatherwood) and this only made them stronger.

What was thought to be a slug feast turned out to be anything but - the bats were silent as it turned  out to be a pitching duel.  There were no losers in this game as it was pure solid baseball by both teams.  The Tigers prevailed in the end with a 3-1 win, thanks to a Garrett Baugh double for 2 RBI'S to give the lead to the Tigers in the bottom of the 5th.

Sat would bring on a focused Vision Baseball team. Vision showed up determined and ready to play. Vision proved to every team at the park they could hit with anyone.  The Tigers defense held up long enough for the Tiger bats to take over.   Two HR's by DJ Robinson were followed up by a 3 RBI shot over left field fence from Logan Cain.   When the dust settled: Tigers 12-6

The Tigers second game on Sat saw a tough little Germantown Giant 9yr old team take the field.  The difference was obvious as the Tigers played all around and was pitching a shutout 4-0 until the 4th inning when some questionable calls allowed the 9's to have a few base runners and score some runs.  Steven Kendrick hit a shot over the left field fence that missed the foul pole by inches or the Tigers would have added another HR on the weekend. The Tigers being Tigers bowed up and shut the surge down. (Lesson learned here) Tigers 5-3   Tigers earn #2 seed thanks to run differential.

Sunday allowed the Tigers to have a bye.  The Tigers would face West TN again after they got a victory over Vision Baseball.  West TN would bring their ace flame throwing pitcher.  He would keep the Tiger hitters quiet for a couple innings, but the Tigers where able to get hits here and there and place 3 runs on the board.  The Tigers Pitching staff is deep and when the Tiger's Big Lefty (Hugh Fisher) left the mound, the next flame throwing big man (DJ Robinson) took over.  Both Tiger Pitchers pitched outstanding and the defense was solid.  It was the fourth inning when the Tigers bats caught up with the West TN Wildcats Flame thrower. The Tigers loaded the bases but not before the Wildcats could log 2 outs.   However, Garrett Baugh, the game ball winner from the first game with his 2 RBI double,  was at the plate.   Garrett had 2 strikes and was pushed in a corner.  Never push a Tiger in a corner because he will fight his way out. Garrett lifted his team on his shoulders sent the next pitch over the Green Monster fence for a GRAND SLAM and a 2 run lead for his team.  Tigers 8-5.  Tigers Championship bound !!!!

The Tigers would limp into the championship game.  The game with the Wildcats had really drained the boys.  It's hard to get up for such big games back to back, but the Giants were ready and showed they were there for the Championship.  The Tigers jumped out quick taking 3-0 lead in the top of the first only to be answered quickly by the Giants with 4 runs of their own.  The Tigers learned a lot about their team and a few areas that needed work. The Giants Bats were hot early finding holes and gaps in the outfield early on and then the Tigers errors decided to give them a little help as well. The Giants scored 5 runs after the Tigers errors that should have ended 2 separate innings with no runs scored. The Giants were very polished and looked solid at every area of the game. Great job Giants and congrats on a great tournament.  The Tigers take a week-off to practice and rest up.  Next stop Snowden Grove.

Highlights

Homeruns:

Logan Cain

Garrett Baugh  Grand Slam !!!!

1 more for Parker Jordan

2 more for DJ Robinson

UMPIRE CHALLENGE CHAMPIONS

See full size imageThe Memphis Tiger 10's started a fresh 2009 spring season, out running the weather and heading south. The Tigers were able to complete all pool play games to claim the top seed with only 5 runs allowed. This was enough to claim the Championship as some weather and game decisions were in question???? Although the pitching and defense was hot, it was the Tiger bats that stole the show in Canton, MS.

The Tigers plated a whopping  32 runs in 2 games !!!!! DJ Robinson went yard over the center field fence and Parker Jordan joined the show by sending one of the longest hit balls over the left field fence into the next field's centerfield for a GRAND SLAM!!!! All Tigers logged multiple hits and runs. The Tigers have the bats to match anyone, with a mean pitching staff and stingy defense this team looks to make some noise again this season.  Tiger Pitchers had a great showing, Hugh Fisher, Franklin Hefflinger, Parker Jordan and Garrett Baugh.

Garrett was brought in to close the last game and after walking the first 2 batters, Garrett buckled down and struck-out the next 3 batters to close the door and preserve what later would become the deciding factor in the Tigers first championship for the Spring and 4th Championship for the 2009 season.

Great job Tigers as we learned a few kinks we need to work on, It's back to the practice field to prepared for the next tournament.  Great job Tigers!!!

FEDEX FORUM MOTORCROSS COURSE

The Memphis Tigers completed their 2009 baseball camp Sunday Morning at Bartlett Lanes with a little breakfeast and Bowling. The Tigers completed a week-end filled with Practices and activties. The Tigers started their camp at Gameday Baseball Sports Academy Friday night at 6 pm. The Tigers would start their day with a 6 am run Sat morning and a fresh feel to a new season was started.

The Tigers would have a full day of practices while, benchmarks were being set, so the boys will have goals on areas of improvement. The Tigers somehow ended up at the Fedex Forum for a Freestyle Motorcross Event??

The Boys where exhuasted as not one Tiger never left his seat during the show. It almost doesn't seem fair that the Tigers had this much FUN and still got all the work that they did. These Boys are almost ready for the season.

TIGERS UNDEFEATED IN FALL 17-0

The Memphis Tigers showed a glimpse of things to come in 2009 with a undefeated Fall season. The Tigers won 3 Championships in the Fall and go undefeated for the first time in a Fall season.

The Tigers bring back 9 players from an Elite 24 team in 2008, that saw 64 wins , numerous Championships and a World Series Championship.  The Tigers are excited about 2 new additions to the team that bring speed, power and toughness. The Tigers will also have some pitching depth provided from the Tri-State area during the season.  This looks to be a special group and there will be no limits for this team.

The Memphis Tigers coaches look forward to developing each player to his full capabilities.

Coach Kendrick is excited to start his 6th season as head coach of this talented group of young men.

 Go Tigers!!!

The Boys celebrated with a game of football in the yard, But were a little disappointed when they were told No More Tackle ... LOL  This was a perfect way to celebrate the Holidays, and excitement was all around. The Future looks bright for this Tiger Family and every player is ready to face the challenges that lay ahead.

Go Tigers!!
