"Locker Sponsorship Program"

http://www.eteamz.com/MCHSWarriorFootball/albums/index.cfm?id=496961

The Locker Sponsorship Program was initiated to offset the costs of building new lockers as well as to help perpetuate the tradition and history of the 116 years of Warrior Football! All Warrior Football Alumni are encouraged to take a place of honor in the new locker room by "sponsoring" a locker through a gift or pledge of $100.00. Sponsorship will include a plaque displayed with the alum’s name, number, position played and years of participation on the locker currently occupied by the player with the same number. Involvement in this project also entitles particpants to membership in the Athletic Club.

Completion of this project is a major step forward and will greatly enhance the functional use of the football locker room. It will also be a very positive improvement to show potential student-athletes while they contemplate entering from other schools.

Boeck promoted to head Warriors

After an extensive coaching search, Marion County High School has promoted Troy Boeck to head its football program. Boeck is in his first year as an assistant principal at the Jasper school and was an assistant on the football staff last fall.

Boeck becomes the Warriors’ sixth head coach in the last 11 years. He succeeds Jason Evans, who was fired following his second season.

“This is a program that has been in constant turmoil and one desperately in need of stability,” Boeck said. “This was not something I had ambition to do originally. I was content as an assistant coach. I’m sure it will be a challenge and not everybody will agree with all of my decisions, but I’m very fortunate to be in an area where football is such a priority.”

School administrators spoke with or formally interviewed 32 candidates, but according to Boeck, no others were qualified for the teaching position available.

Boeck played at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (1986-91), earning back-to-back All America honors his final two seasons, and was the last UTC football player to be a Southern Conference player of the year. After coaching at Rhodes College for four years, he was an assistant at Baylor School for two and South Pittsburg for eight before coming to Marion last summer.

The Augusta (Ga.) native promoted defensive coordinator Randy Kirkpatrick to assistant head coach and will retain offensive coordinator Larry Richards. Former Warriors coach Paul Underwood has also rejoined the staff.

Marion County was the winningest program in the area during the 1990s, winning four state titles from 1990 to ’95. But since that time, the Warriors have had only one playoff win and no more than seven wins in any season.

Boeck added that before spring practice, the staff will work on improving the fieldhouse and weight facility.

“We have to not only have these kids physically ready, but we will also work on their mental approach,” Boeck said. “We have to reverse the attitude that has taken over here and make the kids feel pride in the program again.

“We’re really looking at breaking them down and rebuilding the way they think of themselves and this team.”
