    DID YOU KNOW...

Game Schedules are constantly changing... Please don't think the copy you printed off yesterday is correct.

Check it everyday and remember to look at the end of the schedule for a description of what the changes are.

Game Rescheduling: Dan writes the schedules and they are posted to this website. Three situations occur for reschedule:

1. Weather/Field Conditions. Dan will try to reschedule these games into first open date possible. If no dates are open the scheduled game will be listed as TBD and coaches should make every effort to get together to work out a reschedule date. Coaches know that for example Ponytail plays on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, so those are the days of the week that would be used. Coaches are not notified of the reschedule date, they are just posted on the schedules in the hand out sections.

2.  Legitimate school functions like band and choir concerts, science camps etc. These reschedules are automatic and again Dan will try to reschedule into the first open date possible.  If no dates are open the scheduled game will be listed as TBD and coaches should make every effort to get together to work out a reschedule date.

3. Coach's request. These do not necessarily need a valid reason and coaches are encouraged to get together to work out a reschedule date. The request should be made to the opposing team coach at least 48 hours prior to the scheduled game date. If no reschedule date can be agreed to it is possible the team requesting the change may be faced with a forfeit.

COACHES PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR E-MAIL ADDRESS IS CORRECT. IF THERE IS AN ERROR PLEASE SEND CORRECTION TO DAN at WestMIASA@gmail.com

ASA Concussion law is now in effect

Concussion Training

A new Michigan Law went into effect on June 30, 2013 called “Heads Up Concussion.” MASA is proactive and we are requiring all of our umpires that will be umpiring youth games to take the Concussion Training. There is no cost for this training. Please go to one of the following Web sites: http://nfhslearn.com/electiveDetail.aspx?courseID=38000

Once completed, the certificate needs to be printed and sent to the MASA State office. Michigan State Law requires us to keep these certificates on file.

You only have to do this training once in your lifetime. If you have completed the training previously, send us a copy of the certificate. The certificate will remain on file with MASA as long as you remain an active umpire.

THUNDER OR LIGHTNING

This rule is for all leagues and all divisions and is not optional

a.       Games will be stopped immediately if lightning is seen or thunder is heard from the field. In the event the game is being played at a complex of multiple fields, any game being canceled because of dangerous weather conditions shall be considered grounds to stop all games. You must wait 20 minutes before allowing play to resume. If there is another clap of thunder or lightning is seen again, the clock is restarted. If it happens a third time, the game or games are cancelled and everyone must leave the field.

  b.       Should the National Weather Service issue a Severe Thunderstorm Warning or Tornado Warning for our area, all games in progress shall be stopped and all scheduled games during the duration of the warning shall be postponed.

This is about the safety of our children it's not up for discussion.

EXTREME HEAT CONDITIONS

This rule is for all leagues and all divisions and is not optional

In the event extreme heat conditions are forecast Directors will check with Accuweather three hours before game time and determing what the heat index is projected to be for the Muskegon area at game time. Should the heat index be 100 degree or higher, then all games will be cancelled for that evening.
