MATTAPAN PATRIOTS POP WARNER: Education

Dear Patriots Parent/Guardian:

First and foremost we hope that you and your family are well.  We would like to thank you for being apart of the 2006 season.  For all the parents that contributed in anyway, may it be from a team mom, donating your time, concession stand volunteers or just coming to the game and showing our children the Love and Support they need.  We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

As we move into the 2006 season you will notice some changes and improvements that the Mattapan Patriots have initiated.  We strongly believe when you bring you child out to us we are committed in that child, not for the 3 months of football but for the entire year.  We are here to help you in any way possible because we not only care about your child's participation in football/cheerleading but we at Mattapan care about classroom performance as well.  Our new slogan for 2006 is, "We are not only teaching athletics we are shaping our future leaders for tomorrow".

Throughout your child's academic years, there is always a need to communicate with school: teachers, administrators, and others concerned with your child's education.  We are asking that you please inform the Mattapan Patriots if you child is lacking in any of his/her educational duties.  We are willing to try to help you come up with a positive solution.  We want you to look at this program as an extended family vehicle and not just a football team.

The purpose of this letter is to acknowledge the introduction of our educational portion for 2006.  Not only is Pop Warner geared toward activities that keep our youth athletically competitive, but an integral part of the program, titled the "all-American Scholar Competition", recognizes academic excellence and is an honor, coveted for any Pop Warner player or cheerleader.

For the academic improvement and benefit of our children, we are asking that you provide us with ideas, concerns, and suggestions to help implement our education piece.  Putting your thoughts on paper gives us the opportunity to go over what's been suggested or discussed.

Listed below is a guideline of things we are looking for:

1.  First, identify your child's many strenghts in learning, then list his/her weaknesses;

2.  Most children learn differently and at different paces.  Try to determine you child's
learning style - is he/she auditory (learns through hearing (i.e. discussion) or visual learns
by example (i.e. written samples or by examples).

3.  Identify where your child seems to have the most difficulty (particular
     subject/homework/class focus/class participation)

4.  State what you would like to see happen or what you would like to see changed and are
you willing to be a part of the solution to make this happen for your child.

5.  Describe what type of response you would prefer (meeting with someone/return letter
and/ or  phone call.  Provide your daytime/evening telephone number)

6.  Lastly, attach a copy of your child's last report card.

This letter is one of many that shall receive in the coming months of the positive strives we are making for the Mattapan Patriots.  The 2006 season starts now.  We need your support and imput.  Please feel free to give us your comments regarding your experience with the Mattapan Patriots organization.  Yes, we welcome all comments, good and bad.  We want to, have, and will improve.

In conclusion, our dedication and volunteer work to your family continue to be the fabric that knits our organization together, our goal continues to be to develop, support, nurture and motivate our youth on their passage to young adults.

Sincerely,
Education Director - Corey Allen
