6th Annual Boston Baby Bowl

Greetings. I would like to inform you that we are holding our 6th Annual Boston Baby Bowl, a football tournament involving some of the youngest football players and cheerleaders in Eastern Massachusetts. The Boston Baby Bowl will take place on Sunday, November 6, 2011, starting at 8:00 AM, at the Madison Park High School, Roxbury MA.

Here is some background information on how our Baby Bowl came to be:

I was home one night watching the local news, which featured the normal street violence in the inner city and how it was getting out of control. As the President of the Mattapan Patriots Pop Warner Football and Cheerleading organization at the time, I thought it would be great if our program could come up with ways to make a difference. What I ultimately came up with was a tournament involving all the inner city Pop Warner football programs, the goal being unity in our community. I got to thinking, that a child is not born hating others, so I decided that this tournament should target the youngest members of each Pop Warner program, known as the E Team. The average ages of children on the E Team are 7 - 8 years old.

The first year we held the Baby Bowl, we invited all the inner city E Teams to participate in this event. Only 4 teams responded, and there were approximately 70 players and 30 coaches.

When we were sending out the invitation for the second annual Boston Baby Bowl, I thought about a meeting I had attended where some suburban parents didn't want their children to come into the city of Boston to play football. That made me think that maybe we should expand our goal of unity to include children in other communities, to bridge the gap between the different communities. So we decided to invite teams from ALL OVER the Eastern Massachusetts region. The theme of our invitation was "BRIDGING THE GAP". We soon discovered that there was a lot of suburban teams looking for events like this to expose their players and their families to the greatness of Boston, and to help them realize that basically, we are all the same whether we live in Boston, Brockton, Cambridge, Triton, Woburn, Everett, Sudbury, Wilmington and other areas.

Baby Bowl 2010, we had 30 teams that came out to participate - 732 football players, 157 coaches, 65 cheerleaders and 3200 family and friends that came out to Madison Park High School on Sunday, November 7, 2010.

We started the Baby Bowl as a way to bridge the gap between the different communities throughout Massachusetts. We all agree that our children are our future and we must take whatever steps are necessary to bring our communities, races, and cultures together. This has always been a positive event – a way for kids from all over the state to play together and have a good time without all the politics that tend to keep us as adults from moving forward.

Shout Outs!!!!

As we all know football is a tough contact sport and though rules exist to minimize injuries they do happen.  We’d like to recognize a few of our players whose injuries have led to the end of their regular game season but also remind other players that all injuries are serious and your health & safety are just as important as playing hard and winning.
