All Managers should know the procedure for injuries as follows:
1. Care for the Injured. Provide immediate basic first aid as needed including bandages and direct pressure to stop or slow bleeding and ice to relieve swelling. Depending on the severity of the injury, the Manager should be asked to make the decision whether to call 911. (Examples include all head traumas, heat stroke, heart attack/stroke or similar severe incidents needing immediate medical attention). If in doubt, always call 911.
2. Paperwork. Immediately, all we need is the player's / injured party's name, a phone number to contact them later and a description of the injury and how it happened (phone number is very important when it is a spectator or other third party injured which we do not have records). We do not need to have the injured wait until we obtain and fill out the incident report. Always go to step one if in question, we can fill out the paperwork later.
3. Notify The Safety Officer - He should be immediately notified of the injury and he will institute an investigation of the what's, why's and how's. The Safety Officer will determine if he needs to immediately respond to the scene so to coordinate temporary safe guards depending on the situation. He will complete the incident report after gathering this information, file it with the Little League copying the Executive Board and make any necessary recommendations to the entire Board for needed changes. The Board will decide which changes to make so to prevent reoccurrences. Our Safety Officer carries a cell phone and his number is posted in the concession stand on the refrigerator.
